MLB Changes 2015

Yeah, as I said before, I'm not at all picky about which blue they choose, but if I were forced to have an opinion, I'd say navy is most appropriate.. Maybe the navy of the Indians' Wahoo cap, rather than the darker navy of the Yankees cap, if I'm being super specific, but really any blue is fine by me.

I know the block C cap was darker, but I thought Wahoo was still lighter.. Oh well.. Either way, I think the lighter navy is the closest existing cap color without matching pantones.. I have no idea if new era uses specific pantone colors for teams.. I always just assumed they have a somewhat limited number of set stock colors to choose from, but I'd believe anything at this point

They did switch the Wahoo cap to dark navy this season as it used to be. And yes, New Era only offer four shades of blue/navy for MLB. I don't know why they seem to be able to match team colors for the NFL though. I thought the material might be the reason but I've just double checked some of my NFL 5950 and they're also 100% polyester...

Yeah that's odd.. If they can match specific shades and colors for NFL teams, they should be able to do the same for MLB..

So stock MLB cap colors..

Just off the top if my head:

Red - cardinals, Phillies, etc

Sedona red - diamondbacks

Black - various

Powder - rays alt

Royal - Royals, jays, Mets

Navy - rays, old Wahoo

Midnight - Yankees, braves

Green - A's

Teal - mariners (brim)

Orange - Marlins, Astros

Purple - Rockies (brim)

Gold - pirates alt

Yellow - pirates/A's brim

White - Orioles (panel)

.. Am I missing anything? (obviously some specific teams, but I was just trying to pinpoint an example of each color)

Or did I list any example teams incorrectly?

Dark royal: Dodgers, Rangers and formerly the Cubs

Ah.. Forgot about that.. And I actually only knew about the dark royal because of the cubs.. Funny they're not in it anymore..

Also, are the Mets definitely in light royal? It would make sense for them to wear dark royal like the Dodgers, since their official blue is "dodger blue"

As far as I know, only the cap is that dark for the Dodgers and it clashes with the shade on their uniforms/merchandise as much as it did for the Cubs which led to the change. The Mets cap in dark royal would have the same problem especially with the blue alt.

Also, the Marlins and Astros used different shades of orange caps. I imagine New Era could easily custom make colors for teams if they wanted, but seeing as baseball is more conservative in terms of caps, nobody is really requesting new colors. I mean, it would be kind of silly for a team to say "We want a navy-er navy than the light navy but not as dark as the dark navy."

Mets are definitely light royal.

This is obviously a bit old, before the Cubs went lighter and the Indians went darker, but you get the idea.

Weird that it includes the Padres old Sunday home cap that the wore with the previous generation camo. They definitely never wore that as an All Star cap.

As far as I can tell, the Mets originally switched to the light royal in 1998 to contrast more with the black.

That is peculiar, but I believe they have made the ASG caps in all team versions, even versions players would never wear in the ASG.

Off the top of my head, I can't ever recall that happening. I've seen it plenty with World Series/Playoff caps that never end up in the rotation (05 Astros brick, 06 Cardinals alt, 10 Rangers red, 13 Pirates mustard), but I don't ever remember seeing that for the All Star Game.

Here's a photo of a rare time the Nats wore red batting helmets on the road, to me It looks way better than what they use now

This was the first series after the ASG in 2013. They were testing it out. I liked it too. Much better than the Braves look of the current road caps. I think the red w/navy brim alt cap would be good for the road cap.

Just for clarity, those images are from 2012. John Buck and Ricky Nolasco were not Marlins in 2013.

That above pic of the all star caps has me thinking of color variety in mlb....

The way I see it, all the red caps are the same red except for Arizona.

There are two royals a light and a slightly darker one.

Three navy blues, light , regular, and midnight? Or is the new Cleveland navy different than the others?

I know for a fact that the Marlins have a different orange than everyone else but are the oranges for the Giants Mets Astros and Orioles all the same?

Lastly the yellows of Oakland and Pittsburgh are slightly different right?
