Is anyone else blocked from viewing certain threads? I have Avast antivirus for my macbook, and almost every time I click on a thread that hasn't been posted in for a couple weeks, I get an "Infection blocked" message that says there is an HTML:Script-inf.

I know there's probably nothing Chris can do, I'm just curious if anyone else with Avast is having the same problem.

I get the exact same issue, especially when looking at threads in the Forum Announcements. I looked into the code and there is a call to an unknown script from another website:

Hopefully a mod can bring this to Chris's or Clark's attention?

Just curious: how does banning work? When you're banned, can you still lurk? Is your IP and/or email blocked from signing up for a new account?

On the computers that you're signed in, it just shows you a screen that says you aren't allowed to view any content and you can't sign out. (From when I was suspended.)

This is like the 5th time this week that someone has made an account just to say "i joined just so I can say these are awesome". While I am all for new members, is there any way that on the screen when people create an account can it say in big bold letters "PLEASE REFRAIN FROM POSTING ON THREADS THAT HAVE BEEN INACTIVE FOR 6 MONTHS OR LONGER" or something along those lines?

Well, members and mods who know better comment on the thread resurrection and move the topic back to the top of the page again. They will fall off if people stopped trying to show off and point out the history of the thread.

Can you post PM's from other members?

If the other member is ok with it? Sure. You should refrain from doing it if you don't have their permission.

Now if you think a PM constitutes abuse? Share it with a mod in PM.

Yes, if you see a thread that's been dormant for a while and bumped, just report the post and we'll get it taken care of.

.

I understand that, but at that point, the damage has been done. I have stopped from telling people to not bump because it is a bump in itself, I just report it and I have been reporting a lot lately lol. I'm just thinking more on the prevention side of things because most of the old thread that get bumped, just get locked, so they are still taking up space. Not a big deal, just more of a suggestion. People will keep bumping because they like to abuse the "freedom of speech" idea.

What damage? You click on it, you see nothing is new, you go back to the forum.

Seeing a bumped topic and expecting EVERYONE to not post in it isn't taking human nature into account. Someone will, for whatever reason. So the "ignore it and hope it goes away" option isn't viable.

So we can either delete or lock the threads in question. I prefer locking with a post explaining why. Again, for transparency. So that you all just don't see a thread vanish. Granted, a post does bump it again. Still, by locking it the mod ensures that the thread will quickly sink back down to the bottom of the page, and eventually off the first page. All the while providing a friendly reminder that thread necromancy isn't approved of.

When did we establish "Warning points", and how do I acquire all of them?

What's the limit before suspensions/banishment? What gets you warning points? Do I carry my high school diploma around? What do you do with your hair? What happens if there's inclement weather? Where do you - What do you wear? Can you wash your clothes in the dishwasher?

What if a member PMs to begs me to stop making them look like a fool, but only continues the argument in public.

PM a mod with details and we'll go from there.
