I like how my dad refers to the Chargers, "San Diego, or Los Angeles, or whatever they are called this week"

Replacing "San Diego" with "Oakland" in that sentence (and, more recently, mentioning Las Vegas in addition to or instead of Los Angeles) pretty much exemplifies how I have been frequently inclined to describe the Raiders, given their particular history of turmoil over where they were to play home games permanently.

Is is legitimately rough as a fan. And the thing is I don't blame anyone but the team (or Dean, to be more specific). This has been a disaster of their own making and they're fools if they think becoming the Rams' tenant will fix things.

I'm legitimately at the point where I'm not long for the Chargers fandom. It'll probably end when Phillip Rivers retires. My dad and uncle have both given up :(

If it makes you feel any better the Chargers were front page news on Yahoo last night...

Yeah never mind. That won’t make you feel better.

By the way, who did your family jump to if anyone? My cousin jumped to Seahawks and everyone else I know jumped to the Niners.

Don't give up, boys.  They'll be back in San Diego eventually.

The league isn't going to watch this L.A. fiasco unfold indefinitely.  At some point the other owners will lean on their colleague to sell the team, and a new owner will then be able to return the Chargers to San Diego.

What are the chances of the Chargers failing in LA and moving somewhere other than San Diego in your scenario? Is it a foregone conclusion that if LA doesn't work out the Bolts return home? Or does some other city get the chance to attract an NFL team?

I know there's no way to know, I guess I'm just asking your opinion.

The Sacramento Chargers.

Nope. Even I don't like the sound of that one.

Also, if I'm the city of San Diego and the Chargers come crawling back with their tails in between their legs, I tell them to go get :censored:ed harder than anyone has ever been :censored:ed in the history of :censored:ing.

My expectation is that the league won't squander the opportunity to undo this embarrassing error, and to reclaim the goodwill of fans in an important city.

Which is why they won't move them back. Why do that when you could relocate them to a virgin market?

I don't follow the reasoning. Moving the Chargers to another city does not really erase the embarrassment of this error; and it certainly does not assauge the ill-will in San Diego. Whereas, moving the team back to San Diego under new ownership turns a big negative into a big positive.

Virgin territory can be handled with expansion, or else with the transfer of some other team that is actually failing in its current home (as opposed to one, like the Chargers, which is doing well in its current home but which has been unable to extort the municipal government into a bad deal).

I listen to the Russilo/Long NFL recap podcast, and they routinely make the San Diego/LA error. At this point, it's becoming an in-joke, but it does show just now bungled the whole move was.

The NFL should be more professionally managed than to have a franchise unnecessarily withering on the vine.

However, I think it continues to be pretty funny that the Chargers move has been such a disaster and the NFL deserves every bit of egg on its face.

The good people of San Diego, however, do not.

I actually hope that San Diego is able to get into MLS.  They need an actual major league team for once since the Padres don't really count.

I'd wait and see how MLS functions when expansion stops and/or SUM deciding to cut the dead weight before saying its professional.

The Contracted Chargers

Well, we could go back down to 30, we just need another team to eliminate.

That's one way to get me off that trashy Bucs narcotic. I'm all for it! Sink Florida into the Atlantic, while we're at it.

Can you name a single market left without an NFL team that's stronger than San Diego? If I sat back and really thought about it, MAYBE, at best. But I doubt it.

Washington would be a good candidate.
