rvrdgsfn
Meanwhile in Seattle....http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/hockey/local-groups-have-work-to-do-before-getting-legitimate-shot-at-an-nhl-expansion-franchise/So what happens now?Well, for starters, the world didn’t end. The NHL has said this process is consultative and won’t automatically lead to the awarding of expansion teams, and the Arizona Coyotes and Florida Panthers still eventually could need relocation spots. An NHL source tells me the league invited Bartoszek to its New York offices for a chat Tuesday. So there’s still a relationship there. And yes, this region does have wealth the NHL still covets. Maybe not enough in one place to purchase teams and arenas simultaneously, but enough to warrant further looks.Looks like they're holding out for Relo instead of Expansion.... Burmy
"We thank Coyotes fans and sponsors for their incredible support throughout this process. They have proven that they are among the most loyal and ardent in the NHL.”You know whose fans were the "most loyal and ardent in the NHL?" Four teams come to mind...the Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques, Winnipeg Jets and Hartford Whalers. But that didn't stop the NHL from pulling up the stakes there. Also, I'd think a message would be sent that the Wild and Jets 2.0 have been some of the biggest success stories in recent NHL expansion/relocation.
Sodboy13
Honest-to-God fun fact I learned earlier this week: The current city manager and chief of police in Ferguson, Missouri came there from Glendale. Four teams come to mind...the Minnesota North StarsLet me stop you right there for a second. DarkJourney
So it's Vegas or Seattle for the Coyotes in 2017 if the NHL decides to totally drop expansion. As some of us think, Quebec City gets hung out to dry.
CubsFan4Life
Nothing says loyal like attendance south of 14 thousand with astronomically cheap ticket prices. Bettman needs to stop the lies and use the term "we" when talking about Coyotes fans, because only that explains his love affair with this team while letting Atlanta leave the moment they felt like it. rams80
*Waits for announcement that the "expansion teams" will start play in 2017-18* *Waves goodbye to Hurricanes or Panthers* That or Seattle's throwing up an arena by then. And the Coyotes could be replaced as arena managers in year 2. LMU
So, hockey related revenue transfers to the team in exchange for a $1.5 million discount on the arena management. Since I highly doubt that there's going to be an influx of North Phoenix mayor-tasers filling up the ex-Jobber, this just seems like it's a backroom thing where the team's leaving in two years and this will just serve to make the divorce a bit more amicable. rams80
I like how the hfboards zeitgeist has concluded that "now that there's going to be expansion, the Coyotes won't relocate to either Vegas or Quebec." Christ, and the business of hockey section claims to be the smart part of the boards. I mean seriously, the league still owns the Coyotes for all intents and purposes, why wouldn't the league negotiate an official sale price, plus relocation fees, that adds up to $500 million for the Coyotes. Ditto if the Panthers or Hurricanes transfer to league control "temporarily". The_Admiral
You have got to be :censored:ing kidding me! Where is the compromise? What do the Coyotes give up?Their subsidy in 2016-17, most likely. Also, the Coyotes had to fire the former Glendale employees as a condition of the agreement. lol. This won't kill the team, of course, it'll just create a new brink for someone to pull them back from. This team makes the St. Louis Blues look like a model of stability. rvrdgsfn
Meanwhile in Vegas....http://www.fox5vegas.com/story/29626072/season-ticket-holders-will-name-las-vegas-nhl-team?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitterThe identity of Las Vegas' possible NHL franchise will be in the hands of season-ticket holders.Bill Foley, president of Hockey Vision Las Vegas, said in a statement Friday that those who reserved seats to games of the prospective franchise will have a say in the team's name. However, Foley did not provide a specific avenue in which team names may be submitted. Well, it's good to know that Foley is allowing the season ticket holders to choose, but in all honesty, what makes them think that the board will approve expansion in September? Sure they can't deny Las Vegas & Quebec, but what if they do?
The_Admiral
Then they'll move the Coyotes to Las Vegas in 2017 and tell Quebec City to go screw itself. There's going to be an NHL team in Las Vegas; they've been obsessed with it for years. The only question left is whether we get sugar with our medicine.
