Now it's coming out that Global Spectrum (a division of Comcast, the owner of the Flyers and the NHL's media overlord) is signing on to be Ice Edge's arena manager. And now it's clear why they were conspicuously uninvolved in the bidding for the job.

If you really want to get the conspiracy theories going, Global Spectrum also runs the arena (Copps Coliseum) here in Hamilton.

As a point of interest, Global-Spectacor is a big part of the proposed arena in Markham. Deep ties in sports and entertainment business

If Bettman and Daly are there tonight, then you'd have to think Sherwood got the council to give the nice men their money so no one gets hurt.

Craig Morgan@cmorganfoxaz2h

An NHL spokesperson said that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly plan to be in Glendale tonight.

I'm not sure they're there to simply accept the check. Remember Gary is the current owner of the Coyotes and does have a vested interest in the proceedings tonight. And he may be there to issue an ultimatum prior to the vote in person as well. Informing them that if they vote for their proposal (as appears to be the current plan), the team will be promptly filling their U-Haul's and heading up to Seattle for 2013-14.

I will say this. If the NHL goes to Seattle, it is imperative for the league to get control of a hypothetical new arena and then absolutely refuse to give a lease to an NBA team. A Sonics revival is not in its best interests.

They'll be run out of the city by year 3 in that case.

They'll be run out of town anyway. This way they have a fighting chance.

Not possible. The hypothetical arena is being built by the guys trying to bring the NBA to Seattle. Hockey is always going to be a secondary consideration even with a team at Key Arena. That said a secondary consideration Coyotes in Seattle are better than the no consideration Coyotes in Glendale.

Meh. It just turned 1995 in Ontario.

Well, its A '95 in Ottawa, but not that one.

Isn't Canada lagging 10-20 years behind America? Isn't this a given?

Except Newfoundland. They're ten years and thirty minutes behind. :D

If the Coyotes were to stay, Bettman would say something irrelevant as The Coyotes are Phoenix. And we would like to have a Stanley Cup in Phoenix.

Even though they play away form Phoenix. I wonder if they will ever become the Arizona Coyotes.

Is this like one of those spambot posts that just pulls random words from the thread and strings them together in something that seems like sentences?

I suppose that's what that post is, yes, but hbgoo will sometimes post in the form of crudely drawn MSpaint comics starring a panda, which goes beyond what any spambot--or normal poster--contributes.

No, not really. I'd rather the NHL not be a catspaw for some effort to secure a basketball team.

You say that like the NHL hadn't sacrificed its dignity long ago.
