Still MIGHTY
8 hours ago, wildwing64 said: And now the Ducks are the kings of the Pacific. ...what? Pretty nice right? 16 points behind in January. Just an absolute hell of a run they're on right now. 11 wins in a row for a franchise record. (That power play is so hot right now.) Have to imagine if they were just simply mediocre through the first two months rather than straight garbage they'd easily be tops in the West and maybe even within shouting distance of the Capitals overall. Hell, the Ducks are 3 points behind Chicago/Dallas with two games in hand. Incredible game today, too. If you're missing Ducks/Kings games, you're missing some of the best of the season, really. I was in Staples Center today, and of course, it was something. Always fun to walk out of that hole with a win. Also, you're so funny, Kings fans. You finally lose first place and "meh, regular season doesn't matter. Whatever. Tire yourselves out now. Beat you in the playoffs. Two Cups. Etc, etc." But had the Kings won today? "Haaaa, Ducks suck! They've always sucked! Still suck! Will always suck! Haaaaa you suck!" Please. Plenty of work still to do, but it's a nice feeling today. | ANA | LAA | LAR | LAL | ASU | CSULB | USMNT | USWNT | LAFC | OCSC | MAN UTD |

When you're buying tickets for these outdoor games, you're not buying tickets because of the state of the team at the time. You're buying it because it's a novelty. You're buying it because it's likely the one time the team ever gets to host an outdoor game. A couple years from now, what's going to be remembered more by all hockey fans...the fact that Minnesota did host an outdoor game or the fact the Minnesota fired their coach the week before? Ticket prices may have been high, but they're that high for everyone. The NHL runs this event. (Not this "game", but this "event".) While it's admirable that Minnesotans were out supporting other games as well, it does look a bit bad for the NHL and NBC when the team pimps the State of Hockey name but doesn't sell out their outdoor game on the day and weekend that's dubbed Hockey Day in America. Did Colorado sell out their game?
Cosmic
Everyone's making too much out of the non-sellout in Minnesota, IMO. They sold all of the tickets given to them, then the NHL dumped 4,000 extra tickets on the Wild four days before the game. If the Wild had all 39,000 tickets to sell from the start, then it wouldn't have been an issue.

Meh...baseball teams have 1-3 days to sell 40,000+ tickets for Wild Card games or Game 163 tiebreaker games. Selling 4,000 tickets with four days' notice isn't some unfathomable task. They also sold out about 500 home games to start out the franchise, but they don't sell out one game, and every one says they're not the state of hockey. They also forget how much it's played here, and how many NHLers are from Minnesota... About 240, and about 100 more than the next state Massachusetts... EDIT: I should also say that ALL of the Wild's playoff games have been sold out. "And those who know Your Name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You." @axpze
I think average home-ice attendance should be a column in the NHL standings. Team, GP, ROW, ROL, SOW, SOL, Pts, Pts/GP, GF, GA, Diff., PIM, Total Payroll, Avg. attendance And maybe add in Corsi or one of the new "shots stats"
