The Maple Leafs traded Daniel Winnik and a fifth-round pick to the Capitals for Brooks Laich, Connor Carrick and a second-round pick.

I don't watch Toronto so idk what we're getting in Winnik. Carrick was a decent prospect, and it always hurts to give up a top two pick. But the fact that we're retaining none of Brooks Laich's monster salary is enough to call this a Winn, at least for now.

Jesus, they didn't even get past the first round last year...  I suppose if the team ever did win a cup, he could just change the year.

Does ANYONE want Bryan Bickell?  Please?  Anyone?

There's a shadeball ownder in my fantasy football league that always tries to sneak in an extra draft pick or something when he restates or sums up a deal. So for example, I traded for Michael Crabtree in my keeper league this year, and we negotiated a 5th round pick as compensation. But then when he recapped "for clarity," it was like "Ok so are we good? Crabtree for a 5th and 7th?" And the 7th had never been discussed at all. He's just trying to catch the other guy napping.

Anyways, I feel like Stan should try that with Bickell.

Drew MacIntyre

Dennis Robertson

and Bryan Bickell, no salary retention"

Sharks placed Mike Brown on waivers yesterday, and he stayed in San Jose while Sharks played in Vancouver. This morning Montreal claimed him,and word has it that he’ll start on the 4th line for the Habs, who are, yep, in San Jose to play the Sharks tonight.

Not sure I’ve ever seen this happen.  A played gets waived or traded at the deadline and his first game with new team is against his old team in their city.

Habs going with the "not gonna win, better load up on Francophones to appease the separatists" approach. They'll extend Therien & Bergevin by the end of the week.

Wild got David Jones for Niklas Backstrom (No, not that Backstrom) Great trade on the Wild's part... Not so much what we got, but what we lost. That HUGE UGLY BEAST of a contract on Backstrom. It's sad to see him go, as he was the franchise in wins, shutouts, and games played, but that contract sucked. And Apparently the trade involved both teams swapping contracts. So it's a huge WIN for the Wild.

In the McDavid-Eichel matchup, McDavid stole the show with 2 goals including the OT winner, was a +1 with 5 SOG, while Eichel was a -1 with 6 SOG, and 2 PIM... Dan Rosen on NHL.com keeps calling this a huge rivlary, compairable to Crosby and Ovechkin, even though they play in the same division, and McDavid and Eichel will play each other twice a year unless they both make the cup finals... :P. Everyone was all hyped up for Eichel vs. McDavid, but it seems like it was really boring last night...

IIRC, the first game Ron Francis played with the Pittsburgh Penguins was at the Hartford Civic Center against the Whalers.

The Penguins also traded Sergei Plotnikov to Arizona the day that Arizona played Pittsburgh... He literally walked to the other dressing room...

This season the team I work for picked up a guy on a Tuesday from the team we were playing the next day. He rode over on the bus with his now former teammates.

That happens in baseball sometimes. And actually, I think location is sometimes a bit of a motivating factor on who gets moved and when. I know that the Giants got Jason Schmidt from the Pirates in the middle of a series vs Pittsburgh (the guy they traded for him, Armando Rios, actually cost the Pirates the game the next day vs the Giants) and one of the reasons the deal went down then was because they didn't have to schedule any additional flights.

Also, didn't Ichiro get dealt to the Yankees in the middle of a series vs Seattle? I think it was in New York, but I could e wrong about that.
