MLB 2016 Changes

This is my annual post where I hope beyond hope that the Reds tweak their uniforms enough to at least 1) drop the dropshadow and 2) get rid of the stupid black-billed road hats (that have looked stupid continuously since 1999). In a few months, I will author another post expressing my disappointment that the Reds road unis will be hurting my eyes and the eyes of millions of others for at least one more year...

You are me are in the same boat. Every year I wish the same exact as you. No more black drop shadow. No black bill on the road cap. Just a simple, clean, red/white color scheme. I hate the road uni's and comptelely agree, the black drop shadow is hard on the eyes. I was impressed when the Rangers removed the drawp shadow from their look, it made their uni's much better looking and easier on the eye balls. Addition by subtraction.

So the style guide contradicts this latest report? Have last minute changes been made after it's been printed before?

Either that or someone is not telling the truth.

There's no reason to believe that anyone isn't telling the truth. There could be different sources, or changes made that hadn't been communicated to all outlets.

Nordiques has the style guide. We don't know anything about CC's source. It's possible that CC's source has newer info that hasn't yet been updated in the guide, or it could be that the guide is correct and CC's source doesn't have the latest info. Guess we'll find out next week (Thursday I think.)

Chris updated his story to say the bowtie "PADRES" is only on the brown alt and camo alt, not the home white. Home white is still "SD" on the chest

That coincides with what Nordiques has been saying. Seems we're all on the same page now.

So no yellow bell on the cap I take it. All brown with a yellow SD? We get a yellow squatchee at least?

I just saw a retail guide that lists the following caps as no longer in use for 2016:

Astros orange

Mets camo

Pirates mustard/black

Padres light brown

We knew about San Diego and there was a rumor going around that one of the camo hats is gone. But I haven't seen anything else about Houston and Pittsburgh. I hope it's incorrect because those are two of my favorite caps in baseball. Can anyone confirm?

From what I've heard, both the Padres and D Backs are treating this year's style guide like the class slacker treats his final paper. I've heard that the Padres have been adding and subtracting s**t left and right at random, and the D Backs may have even gotten cold feet at the last second and ditched the new teal color entirely. One guy from the New Era boards who has access to the guides (and who ALWAYS provides the proper info) has even said that he's seen independent league teams who have their branding more together than the D Backs and Pads do this season.

That all sounds kind of outta place and unusual for a big league club, but considering they they treat their on-field product in the same manner, it wouldn't shock me at all if that's true.

I wish Atlanta would bring back their Alt. hat with the tomahawk

it´s just as good as this one, if not even better :

That's a pretty low bar.

That Braves logo is ridiculously heavy on one side. I have that hat due to a shipping mistake and I don't particularly care for it. Stick with the standard A.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Hope Chris is wrong about the home uni having SD on the chest instead of Padres. Makes no sense as its a home uniform, and it's ugly no matter how it's done. SD belongs on the cap only, not the uni.

That's a point I made a few pages ago. It'd make sense for the road and / or navy alt to have SD, but not the home.

It was mentioned a few pages back, but what makes it any different from what the Yankees, Tigers and Nationals have on their home unis?

Nothing. It's equally stupid on all three of those uniforms as well. NY and Detroit sometimes get a pass due to them wearing those for decades, but there's no excuse for Washington. It's only slightly better than the airport code garbage on uniforms like the Phoenix Suns.

The difference between those three is only that Detroit and New York have roughly symmetrical, squared-offd logos, that look good on the front of a jersey. Washington's curvy, upward-slanting "W" is woefully out of place there, not substantial enough to anchor a jersey.

The "SD" will look fine. Not as good as an improved wordmark would, but fine. If it's all in one color, that is. It'll look awful if they try to replicate the cap logo's two-tone look in any combination.

Bummer, someone contacted me outside the boards confirming this. I thought the Astros were warming up to the orange caps? And I guess this means the Pirates Sunday throwback alternates are completely gone. There was a rumor last week that they're getting a new alternate jersey, perhaps it replaces this one.
