To begin with, I really didn't see anything wrong with the previous set. The red hat with the uniforms was pretty clean and modern. I don't see why the D-snake hat is even still a thing with all the changes. It doesn't fit anymore.

This is an attempt to be a professional version of Oregon. I almost get the vibe that the turquoise alternates are a Padre-esque copout and that they're around as a trial to see if the fans will accept the color.

honestly we should wait and see... IMHO not EVERY team needs to look like the classic teams.... one team out of 30 can be a bit out there... wish they would have turquoise road unis like the old powder blues

This is a point I have brought up before in the past. The D'Backs are not a classic team, they are from 1998. I don't know why teams from the expansion era of baseball feel they have to look like the older teams. They don't, and shouldn't try to. It seems a bit hypocritical to me that one of the biggest complaints about the MLB is many teams look similar in terms of color and design, yet when teams try to do something different, it's said to be too different and too far from the norm.

Without saying anything about the new D'Backs look yet (I still haven't really looked at all of it in-depth yet), at least I can say this: they're pretty distinctive now. They really don't look like anyone else in baseball, and if nothing else, that's a good thing.

So here are some of my thoughts:

  • I agree with most others that I don't like the "D'Backs" script. The best look for their home jersey has always been the original "A" chest logo, and I wish they had gone with that full-time.
  • Not enough teal. It was brought back mainly as a trim color, and doesn't really contrast well with black or red. It does look okay with the "A" logo because it's much smaller and more visible, but I was really hoping to see more teal and purple. But on the other hand, this continues to let the Rockies own the color purple in baseball.
  • Their throwback (i.e. original uniforms) look surprisingly quaint by comparison. And yet, I would have liked to see those updated a bit, mainly with the same NOB and number font. Otherwise, the purple and teal with the pinstripes has always been a "modern classic" to me. At least they will continue wearing them once a week or so.
  • I don't have an issue with darker gray per se, but why didn't they use white or much brighter NOB and numbers? You can barely see the red and black against the charcoal. I mean, up close, it's barely readable, can you imagine trying to read them on TV or at a stadium? I'm actually surprised MLB allowed for that shade of gray without requiring white or light-colored numbers.
  • Like the Marlins, I think there are just too many combos and many will be trimmed down by next season. I would love a white version of the black alternate (that features the chest logo), and I agree with many others that the teal trimmed white alternate should just be their regular home whites. There is little need for something like 8 jerseys and 8 caps. Use the non-sublimated jerseys for home, road and alternates, pick ONE sublimated design for batting practice, and sell the rest as fashion caps and jerseys.

And yet, still, I at least applaud the D'Backs for being different. In a league where so many teams look similar, they are unmistakeable now. Is that bad or good? For me, it's really going to come down to how they look on the field, and not in a vacuum like we're seeing right now. But with the D'Backs doing their thing and the Padres (hopefully) going back to brown and yellow, at least baseball will have some new looks for a change.

Dear Diamondbacks,

There are too many uniforms. Please elminate three.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Oh good lord these Diamond Backs uniforms are disgusting. I think someone said it before but I'll say it again; they look like slowpitch softball uniforms with all of the goofy sublimation that is even on the hats, truncated piping, WHY? The primaries seem like they are way out there for the sake of being out there and they do not fit the professional baseball aesthetic at all, they are just so bad. However, I will say that the new scripts are nice and the alternate uniforms with the nice red, black and teal color scheme are actually not too bad, aside from the stupid half-pants piping.

Edit: I take this back after seeing more pictures and noticing the outlining inconsistencies on the numbers. They are mostly very very bad, fad-hopping, disasters, even the more traditional uniforms.

Maybe the more traditional baseball uniform alts are contingency plan in case the other thirteen uniforms are a flop like I hope they will be. That would at least be palatable, but whatever, as long as this is just the DBacks acting out and not a sign of what's to come in the future for MLB design, I'll just pretend this never happened.

I think it's just the D'Backs. I remember similar complaints when the Marlins showed off their stuff, that they were "too festive" and that they didn't feel like traditional MLB uniforms. But since then, we saw rebrandings from the Blue Jays and Astros and neither went the route of the Marlins. If anything, the trend the past few years in baseball has been modernizing old looks, and even the D'Backs sort of went "retro" by bringing back teal to an extent and using the "A" as their primary cap logo.

I noticed that what I think is the BP cap (the original snakehead logo) is a 5950 as opposed to a 3930. I guess this means New Era is using the 5950 for BP caps now, although maybe they made this change previously, I don't remember. They do still offer the 3930, but I guess they are just "replica" status now.

Padres need brown and yellow full time

Arizona needs the teal set full time

All.done.

I like the way you think.

I guess designers are hopping on the trend of being wishy-washy pussys

To be honest, I think nowadays, a lot of designers care more about their paycheque, rather than the actual designs themselves. They put a bunch of garbage together now and give you an essay about how this represents this, and this other piece of crap represents that. The world of jersey design is becoming a sad, sad place.

I see a jersey with a sash in the MLB's future. XD I like the idea of the odd team trying something new, however, I wish teams were a hell of a lot more tasteful about it then they are right now. These look like the typical collegiate crap they are trying really hard to sell right now. In my opinion, the best uniforms are either the simplest ones, or the ones that find ways to be tastefully unique. The Diamondbacks made enough jerseys to fill an entire closet. The gradients are a neat feature, and I have been trying to be more of a glass 1/2 full kind of guy, however, I'm sorry, but I think Arizona's new uniforms are really disappointing, though I like that they will be using more teal going forward.

I'm loving these. Baseball uniforms have been pretty standard and boring...not a lot of teams in the modern era of strayed from piping and stripes. Circle logos. Etc.

This is a step toward more teams going for unique designs...as long as not everyone trots out 8 different jersey combinations, baseball uniforms might finally get interesting

It's the Browns fiasco all over again

Perfect description.

The Diamondbacks relocated from the NL West to the SEC West and no one told us. Congrats on looking like a college team. The nicest thing I can say is that at least it isn't as bad as adidas' college designs.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!

D-Backs look like batting practice jerseys, and special event caps.

The teal is terrible imo, teal should be associated with water, that is why the marlins used it in the past, and the sharks of the NHL use it now. Noting could be further away in zona then a big blue-green sea

Snakehead with ball is too cartoonish, like something you see in the minors

Actually, teal is very much associated with Arizona and the Southwest. It is a color very frequently seen in Native American artwork, like Navajo weaves and jewelry. I was just at an art museum in Santa Fe not too long ago, and almost all of the pieces on display had some teal somewhere.

And the snakehead may be cartoonish, but it's something from their early years, along with the teal.

I saw a pic of the charcoal jerseys against a light background, and the names and numbers aren't quite as unreadable as I first thought. Really, I don't mind a darker shade of gray. I actually kind of liked when teams had various shades of gray, or even powder blue. Just like some teams have cream homes rather than white, I see no reason why teams can't use dark grays rather than light grays.
