Gothamite
Impressive attendance numbers will do that. But the league should make sure it's sustainable once the luster wears off. DG_ThenNowForever
And Cincinnati needs to strike while hot. Rochester was once an MLS option. Then they dilly dallied on a new stadium and the whole thing fell apart. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
Sykotyk
And Rochester played hard to get, which Cincinnati, Sacramento, San Antonio/Austin, etc won't do this time around. Rochester built a nice stadium (it's unfinished), but they falsely believed staying in their league was better than the cost of going MLS. When they could've become a "Western New York" team and early in and gotten bumped up by all the increases MLS has experienced over the past 7-10 years. It is a shame. But, only for them. In hindsight, I'm sure MLS is glad they didn't get a team.

2001mark
Well, TFC have done enough for me with one more road game, Portland, before finally home opener May 7. Only $70 tickets left... f that. @2001mark
FiddySicks
I got a bit of interesting information at work last night about our expansion bid. Some of it great, some of it downright SCARY. We should know by July if Sacramento is awarded the next expansion bid. The All Star Game is in San Jose this year, and we're the Quakes feeder team. There's talk among the two clubs that, if we get the go ahead from the league, part of the All Star "weekend" is going to be a celebration of us getting awarded our MLS bid. Also, and this is unlikely but still possible... All four teams trying to enter MLS (Minnesota, Atlanta, Los Angeles FC, and Miami) have to have their together and wrapped up by the beginning of the summer, or one of them is going to get jumped. That's not likely at this point, but still possible. Minnesota and Atlanta are on track and set to go, but I guess LA and (Especially) Miami still have quite a bit of work to do in order to get on MLS' timetable. If they drop the ball or something gets delayed, they'll be moved to 25th, and We'll get bumped up and fast tracked into this current round of expansion. That's GREAT, but here's the scary part about that... If that happens, SRFC will NOT be playing their games at Hughes Stadium (Like they did in their first season for bigger matches) during the time it takes to build the new yard, but will be expanding Bonney Field to MLS specs, and we'll be holding down the fort there instead (gulp). That's just a bit terrifying to me, because it's already a madhouse as it is, and in it's current state, already feels like it's ready to burst at the seams. We're pretty much all ready to go, and we've had a plan in place for this very scenario for quite a long time now, but if we have to make the jump a year (or possibly even TWO years) early, there's going to be a TON of stress involved in all of this. Oh, I also picked up on a bit of information on who our jersey sponsor is going to be (It's the UC Davis Children's Hospital right now), but (I think) I've gotta keep quiet on that one for now. Not sure if that one is concrete enough yet to say, but it's certainly flowing in the right direction. We're going to get a Rocky Mountain Cup Western Conference Final! I know I'd sure love that! It'd be a great matchup for sure. Let's hope for it! Sorta related, sorta not: I know I may be an oddity among RSL fans, but I've never really disliked the Rapids all that much, probably because before RSL came along, (in what little soccer I did watch back then) I usually liked the Rapids or DC. As far as the list of MLS teams I hate, it begins and ends with the Galaxy. So I may not have the same brewed up feelings towards a potential RMC west final as others on either side of the rivalry, but I'd still enjoy it just because I think it'd be great soccer. So I'm hoping it happens too!
JTernup
Well I hate you guys (RSL and the Jazz for that matter) LOL but I also feel somewhat kindred to our Rocky Mountain neighbors. My hate comes more from a place of training myself to hate RSL than a natural hate like I have for LAG or Seattle. When the Rapids are good it's good for RSL and vis versa. Both of our clubs are very anti-establishment and have to kick down the door to get any attention, so for that reason, what better way to do that then to land in the West Finals together? woodshackzac
It's pretty much a done deal that pro soccer is coming to Detroit, St. Louis, Sacramento, and San Antonio definitely has an edge over Austin... considering the San Antonio MLS expansion is getting backing from the Spurs. "Pro soccer" maybe, but far from a done deal that they will get MLS. They all need to firm up their ownership groups, with the exception of San Antonio, and they all need SSS deals in place. Sacramento is the only one ready to make the move. Detroit, St. Louis and San Antonio have a very long way to go, and could easily be leapfrogged by another market if they meet the criteria first. MJWalker45
All San Antonio is missing is the go ahead from MLS. They still need to address parking at the stadium though, and have said a parking garage was not being considered.
Sykotyk
St. Louis may be the easiest one. With the bad taste of the Rams, if they don't swear off all professional sports plans, I could see a deal to build a new SSS much cheaper than the new NFL stadium would've been being more palatable. Gothamite
We'll see. They tried to sneak through public funding for the Rans without a public vote and over the vehement objections of the legislature. Don't know if they'll be able to even try that again. pcgd
I think San Antonio still needs a good amount of money. The county and city owns the stadium so they are the ones putting up the cash for renovations to the stadium. When the Scorpions proposed it in 2014 it would cost upwards of $45 million. Even at that price (it'll be higher most likely) that's not a slam dunk the city/county will do it. Maybe I'm wrong but I think they need more than just the MLS thumbs up. They are certainly much closer than Austin however.
rsaline
I was watching Timbers-Toronto this afternoon and I must say that I'm amazed at how much the atmosphere at these games has changed. Everyone is standing, unified around the game, it's pretty cool to watch. Same goes for Orlando, and maybe even Seattle. But I'm curious if this is the case for most of the other teams? I remember going to a Rapids game before DSG Park and it was terribly boring, worse than a minor league baseball game. If this hasn't changed, would MLS consider relocation before expansion? Obviously national interest in the league and the sport is growing, but why waste time on markets that aren't interested?

Relocating into hotter markets isn't as sexy as expanding, yet it keeps from diluting the league that much less. @2001mark
