But yes, a full thrashers throwback would've been stupid. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Can't say for sure without seeing the pants. Based on the pants stripe and the collar it's the 1977-78 version (assuming WHAuniforms.com is correct). Are they sticking around as permanent alternatives or it's only for the Heritage Classic? It'll most likely depend on how popular the return is with the fans. BeerGuyJordan
I'm surprised it took the Jets this long to roll out a throwback. That being said, I think this is the right choice. spartacat_12
I don't like that the Jets darkened the blue. While the royal may be too Rangers-esque, it would pop a lot better. The navy and red is going to look very muddled, especially if you're sitting in the stands at Investors Group Field. Also, I'm surprised that the Jets didn't go with blue, allowing the Oilers to wear something similar to the look below, instead of just recycling their alternates. You'd think they'd be pulling a Heat/Cavs and offering as many different 97 jerseys as possible. I know that the WHA Jets won the championship in their final game ever wearing white, but I just prefer the outdoor games feature 2 brand new uniforms. wildwing64
They own the Thrashers franchise history and records and such, but AFAIK the previous owners retained the rights to the branding for some reason. Not that the Jets have any reason to use it anyway. PotD: 24/08/2017
Morgan33
Nor should they, the Thrashers brand was a mess from the inaugural season to the final. The astonishing thing was that it got worse with every change. First the logos didn't match, then the jerseys didn't match. Then during the 'Reebok Edge' rollout, both uniforms were completely massacred and put on the worst templates possible. And as bad as their 'Edge' set was, it still couldn't prepare you for what could easily be considered the worst NHL uniform of all time.
twi
When we get to year 25 of the Stadium Series games and all good or even not terrible ideas have been exhausted then we'll get the Calgary-Winnipeg clash in Atlanta, complete with Flames and Thrashers jerseys lol. Until then I guess we just have to preemptively complain about things nobody was going to say anyway. I like the Jets look. I'm a sucker for teams making the pants part of the design element, really can complete a look. A little disappointed Edmonton is just using something they used last season. Surprised, too. Would think a new McDavid jersey would be a huge seller.
youcan'tseeme
Anyone else get the feeling that the Oilers had these sweaters originally designed for this game, but decided to bring them out a year early to capatalize on McDavid? After all this game was supposed to be played last season originally anyways right? That's the vibe I get why miss out on a chance at more money by releasing another sweater? McDavid is the only sensible reason.
wildwing64
Like the Habs, the Oilers don't really have a lot left to throw back to. Their whole look is about as throwback as it gets. I don't have much to say about this, but it'll be a good looking game and it's cool to see an old Jets uniform returning. PotD: 24/08/2017

Either way it will be nice having them as a full time alternate. Those uniforms are way too good to be used just once.

Oh, don't kid yourself, the Winnipeg Jets have angry people up their ass 24/7, most of whom weren't even Thrashers fans. Conceivable that they would have used the sweaters for the outdoor game but also the last games at Northlands, though. I'm not a huge fan of the orange sweaters for the Oilers because they subtract appearances from the superior Gretzky uniforms but it's fine as a one-off. Just don't get any big ideas about how the Oilers should orange/blue because the Islanders are blue/orange. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
