This is like a bowl game you think is going to be close and then it's obvious from the first snap that one team is clearly better.

Hoping the Sharks can turn it around and make adjustments now that they've seen how fast Pittsburgh is.

Well, it's tied at 2's.  Safe to say it was more first-time jitters than anything.

Good to see Marleau score.

Gonna have to find a way to keep the SOGs more on par, otherwise this could be a five game series. Burns losing his stick definitely helped with the dagger there, but the Pens were the overall better team. I hope they can somehow make the adjustments for Game 2, because I really don't wanna see this team go back home down two.

It was a better game than I expected it to be after the 1st period. Look at that, Sharks lose a playoff game and I'm not completely pissed off. My how times have changed.

Any fan's team making the finals is hard to call suffering, no matter the outcome (though a case could be made for a sweep in the finals), especially the franchise's first trip ever. Blue Jackets and Maple Leafs fans: now those folks are suffering.

Thunder Bay Lynx - International Hockey Association (2 seasons, 2017-18, 2019-20, 2018 Xtreme Cup Champions)Houston Armadillos - Major League Hockey (2 seasons, 2016-18) | Minnesota Muskies - North American Basketball Association (1 season, 2017-2018) | Louisville Thoroughbreds - United League of Baseball (1 season, 2017, 2017 United Cup Champions) | Las Vegas Thunderbirds - International Basketball League (1 season, 2016-17, 2017 Champions)

If San Jose can sneak out of Pittsburgh with the series tied, I think this one will go a full seven, with each team taking two of three at home to the decider. Should they fall behind 0-2, I think the Pens take Game 4 in San Jose and continue giving the bottom pairs the Sharks have fits in a tough but decisive Game 5.

I'm confident that the Sharks are still in this (despite how some parts of the media are already kinda crowning Pittsburgh). Had they come out better in the 1st period, they had a really good shot to win game 1, and still came very close. Tonight's game is huge, obviously, but I too think that a win tonight changes the dynamics of the series pretty heavily. Game 1 at the Tank is going to be absolutely NUTS. Especially if it's tied.

I think San Jose wins tonight. They weren't ready for the first period in game 1, but looked like the better team thereafter. Now they know and they'll be ready to start from puckdrop. All dependent on Martin Jones, of course.

Home arena isn't the advantage it is in the NBA so I usually don't even think of it as a factor in an NHL series, but the Sharks have played really well at home in the playoffs (weird because they weren't good at home in the regular season). I think it's a factor in this series, especially because Pittsburgh hasn't traveled in months while SJ's been all over the map. Just need the Sharks to steal one in Pittsburgh.

I would disagree and say the Pens were the better squad overall in the third. Corsi had the Sharks overtaking them as the third began, but the Pens catapulted back and got a huge opportunity courtesy of the Burns broken stick and Martin unaware of where Bonino was. It certainly is annoying seeing another marquee franchise get the breaks in an inopportune time, but I'd be lying if I said the Sharks should've won that game. You just simple can't let a team get fifteen more SOGs over the course of the evening and expect to win.

That said, Nieto is coming back but he bumps Zubrus out, who has been excelling in a fourth line roll. I like the fact Karlsson was taken out, since the dude had been suffering through much of the postseason, but I really hope this move doesn't backfire.

I'll see your 15 SOGs and raise you 33 SOGs

NBC should really have all the games of the Stanley Cup Final on NBC instead of putting some games on NBCSN.  They complain about low viewership....well, decisions like that are what's leading to egg on your face.

And it looks like no decision on US TV has been made for Games 3 and 4 just yet.....

There are decisions? I thought the deal was always two of the first four on cable and the rest over the air. That's how they've done it going back to ABC and ESPN -- though for a while it would be 3 and 4 on ESPN/OLN/Vs./NBCSN, they only recently wised up and made sure a sweep-clinch wouldn't be relegated to cable. Of course, in a world where the last game of March Madness is on TBS and no one really thinks much of it, who can say?

A look at Yahoo's site, the NHL's site, and NBC's site all show no listed coverage for Games 3 and 4.  I assume that changes after the conclusion of Game 2.  (If Penguins go up 2-0, Game 3 goes to NBCSN and Game 4 to NBC.  If tied 1-1, Game 3 goes to NBC and Game 4 on NBCSN.  I assume....)

It's dumb.  If you're hurting for ratings that badly, put the games on a channel that gets to more viewers.  Especially when it's your championship series.

I suppose it doesn't really matter if you can catch the games online or on your phone/tablet/etc.  But you still have the older generation that lives and dies with the boob tube....

This is correct.

So the Penguins always seem to outshoot their opponents by big margins since the Caps series, even though they don't exactly have a defensive ace- with all due respect to Letang, he's no Keith or Doughty.
