What is the stadium at Disney World like? Would Orlando/Kissimmee be a viable location for a AAA team? I get travel would be a bit of a pain but it's a large market and with the amount of tourists you'd get that novelty factor.

9,500 capacity, and pretty nice in design, so it's do-able for AAA, but it's already failed at the AA level. The old Orlando Rays moved there from old Tinker Field in 2000, but they still couldn't draw flies-- about 1,000 fans a game  and last in the league. Following the 2003 season, the franchise broke a 10-year lease at Disney after just four years and moved to Montgomery, here they are now the Biscuits.

Tourists aren't the ones who support minor league baseball in general, but especially in Orlando...its the local population.

The Orlando Rays failed because they were at Disney.  Unless the locals have a good reason to go to that area in their spare time, it's generally avoided.

Also, a new team, the Florida Fire Frogs, just relocated to the Kissimmee/Osceola County market playing in the old Astros spring ballpark in 2017.

So the Texas League is going to have both Midland AND Amarillo?

Is it true that upon assignment to this league you are given a pistol with a single shot in it, because after a few weeks that pistol starts to look really good, but if you get promoted out, you can instead shoot your treacherous agent?

Lots of things can happen before the end of the 2018 season when minor league affiliations are up for swap.

New teams cannot officially communicate with potential new affiliates until after the 2018 season.

Damn it!  You buried the lede.

The Elmore Sports group announced Wednesday it is responding to "pressure from within major-league baseball" and will move the Class AAA franchise to San Antonio, Texas, for the 2019 season. It will be replaced with the short-season rookie ball club currently playing in Helena, Mont., another affiliate of the Brewers.

The Helena Brewers have been their farm club since the 1980s.  Shame to lose them.

Since we've magically moved on from discussing the Mets to other teams' possible affiliation swaps, should we rename this thread or not?

The Texas Rangers are going to be the new affiliated team in San Antonio because the Astros are going back to Round Rock. There's like a 99.9% chance of that happening. If not then the Astros will be the team in San Antonio.

The Double A Missions will move to  Amarillo. I can't wait to see the concepts on here for an Amarillo team along with what a new look Rangers affiliated Missions squad will look like.

It is going to be interesting to see what transpires with regard to the Pawtucket Red Sox getting a new ballpark built in Rhode Island. The team is seeking $38 million in public funding - $23 million from the state and $15 million from the City of Pawtucket - as part of the project's overall $83 million pricetag. However, Governor Gina Raimondo and members of the Rhode Island General Assembly have been less than enthusiastic about publicly embracing the project. Stay tuned.

Worcester Mass is knocking down the door to get the Pawsox.

While I'm sure that there are people who would love to see the Triple A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox relocate to Worcester, I don't know that I'd say that the city "is knocking down the door to get the Pawsox".

Yes, in the wake of the failure of the proposed move of the PawSox to Providence back in 2015, there were those in the Worcester political and business communities who floated the idea that an effort should be made to lure the top-tier farm club of the Boston Red Sox to Central Massachusetts. For example, a pair of Worcester City Councilors - Phil Palmieri and Gary Rosen - proposed that City Manager Edward Augustus, Jr. begin working with the Worcester Chamber of Commerce, community leaders in the city's Canal District, and other civic organizations to put together a package to lure the Pawtucket Red Sox to a new ballpark to the city. There were those who opined that the site of the former Wyman-Gordon industrial property near Worcester's Kelley Square would be an ideal spot for a state-of-the-art minor-league ballpark. The city's non-profit Canal District Alliance reportedly reached out to the PawSox ownership group.

Still, Tim Murray - President and CEO pf the Worcester Area Chamber of Commerce - is on record as saying, "If the deal (in Rhode Island) were to fall apart, I think people here would be willing to listen, but everyone recognizes this requires significant municipal assistance. Massachusetts, traditionally, has been reluctant to use tax dollars to those kind of things, and I think in most cases, appropriately so."

City of Worcester spokesman John F. Hill has said that while the city is open to discussions with the team, Worcester City Manager Ed Augustus has no intention of using public money to finance stadium construction.

The same question plaguing the PawSox ballpark plans in Pawtucket would be an issue in Worcester. Namely, who is going to foot-the-bill to pay to build the facility? In Worcester, a second query can be added to that one: Where's Worcester's plan?

Since the Missions rebranded 3 years ago into red, white and blue from black and gold they're good to go. Big issue now is getting a new stadium built downtown. A change in mayor probably helps since our previous mayor was only able to agree to refitting the Alamodome and AT&T Center. Rangers moving in makes sense because they have the bigger fan base and usually play in the preseason here.

Imagine telling someone before 2000 that you were going to see a pro baseball game between the Wood Ducks and the Wood Dogs. What a time to be alive...
