Miami Marlins 2019 Rebrand

You sure do and that's what counts. I know I'm on the other end of the spectrum, generally supporting most of it, and I like to think I provide my rationale properly as well. So I guess we're in the same boat, just sitting on different ends of it.

I definitely wouldn't say your praise/approval of the rebranding is without rationale. You seem more willing to tolerate several visual elements that we both seem to find disagreeable, but I wouldn't call you a sycophant or accuse you of being disingenuous.

Jeets and Co. are getting a crash-course in winning is the only thing that will bring fans in and perhaps trading the last two NL MVPs was the straw that broke the camels back for fans.

(Or attendance last two nights is a side effect of everyone avoiding downtown Miami due to Ultra.)

They are trying everything they can to increase fan turnout, perhaps to the point of desperation. I can't blame them for trying to change the culture surrounding the team and increase profitability, but their offseason transactions alone, namely dumping Realmuto, is probably creating a greater headwind that will negate all of the cosmetic and fan experience improvements they've made. People aren't going to show up because the Marlins are paying a bunch of Cuban musicians to sit in the stands and blow their horns.

I understand why Jeter wanted a "fresh" and unique branding, but I genuinely believe that nostalgia (emphasizing teal/black and the Marlins baseball heritage) would have been a much more lucrative and effective marketing approach than the novelty (new color scheme, 305 fetish, DJ music) route they've taken. I don't know if they changed the sound system, but last season the music was so loud and overbearing that it didn't even feel like baseball atmosphere.

Believe it or not, but there's legitimate nostalgia for the Florida Marlins years (of course the name won't be changed back). I think that tapping into those sentiments, acknowledging the rich history (2 championships since 93, which I believe only 4 other teams have done), would have generated the enthusiasm they seek and have been ample to help people forget the pretty agonizing 2012-2018 seasons.

Obviously none of this matters unless the team starts winning, so they better hope that much of their best minor league talent pans out.

But nostalgia is novelty.

I prefer the fresh moving forward feel than just looking backwards and rehashing the old.

Yes there's a place for nostalgia but there's also a need to go beyond that especially with all the negativity in this team's past.

Actually, I'd argue that nostalgia is nearly an antonym of novelty.

Most of the negativity, at least in my view, surrounds the orange Marlins years. The good outweighs the bad during the teal and semi-teal years. And, yes, there was certainly bad then too.

People talk about "looking forward" but that sentiment often feels hollow to me, at least in this context. Like a platitude.

Should they not improve other aspects of the organization in the mean time?

Definitely, and I am all for what they’re doing. Still waiting for them to change our surrender flag white banners!

This has always bothered me too. There's no reason why the championship banners can't be teal at least.

Winning fixes everything,if they just focus on getting good young players in and surrounding them with veterans nobody will care about their uniform.I myself like the colors, dont love the logo or the script on the jerseys but for the most part I dont hate it.

After seeing these, the logo on the cap is damn near impossible to see, and the script on the black jerseys is even worse. It’s frustrating because this whole look is pretty much a blue wordmark away from being relatively solid. As it stands now? Probably the worst look in the league.

Worse than Arizona?

Ironically I think the cap logo looks better the more I see it and I think it's fine in game action from almost any distance.

I went to the game tonight and the color scheme looks amazing on the signage and the big screen graphics and animations and all that stuff. Very much nailed that aspect of it. Also noticed way more of the blue in the details around the ballpark. For example the game program cover sheet was almost all blue and I even saw those mini helmets for ice cream and they were blue not black.

This signals to me that a retooling of the new look and injection of blue are almost inevitable. They know how in demand blue (if not teal) is. I can't imagine these black alternates being in the uniform rotation next season as they are now. Unlike Loria, who didn't care what fans thought about the branding, I can see Jeter & co. taking some of the critiques to heart.

Anyway, I'd place the Marlins 29th with the Diamondbacks being 30th, but the Marlins could certainly move up in the rankings a bit if they incorporated some of the adjustments many on this board have suggested.

Really disliking this rebrand the more I see it. It truly looks like they're just wearing plain black and white uniforms on screen. The red and blue colors chosen are quite nice, so USE them! The black base of the jersey and hat is enough black. A uniform is not a neon sign. Those outlines don't glow.

"Worst" is a matter of opinion.  At least they're trying to use red and blue in a different way instead of being "traditional".  Props for that, even if they missed the mark.  I'll take these over the common red and navy any day.

Speaking of AZ, while watching them play the Dodgers I forgot how they had a red and turquoise thing with their road unis.  AZ's blue really stands out, Miami's isn't bright enough.

The home whites are not bad , but you know they're gonna wear the black as primaries all season long .... If you just switched the blue and the black around, you'd have something there, and personally I'd like to see a front number.....

This is a myth. The blacks are only worn at home on Friday and Saturday evening games. Every other home game they wear the whites. On the road the black is the alternate but the gray is more used now than ever. They don't wear the blacks as much as they used to. This has been the pattern for several seasons now.
