Identities you wish were your team's

No, not necessarily the exact identity. But as a Bucs fan I look at the redesigns Nike did for the Vikings and Lions and just wish so much they went in that general direction instead of making them look as clownass as they play. They’re obviously capable of coming up with something subtle. And we’ve already seen teams with goofy ass redesigns push for simplifications (Jags) and get them. Why are the Bucs owners such morons? I think I hate them worse for that change than I do for how garbage they play. It just shows that incompetence starts at the very top and quickly festers it’s way down to everything else they do.

I wish the Orlando Magic would have adopted more of a wizard theme. Washington took the name, so that's out the question. It's being wasted in Washington.

This! Give the wizards logo to orlando

As someone pining for his team to return to their old identity or any improvement over the current look sans that marvelous third, I get the sentiment of wanting the North Stars back. The green, yellow and black uniform is among my all-time favourites despite not being around for that era. And to be fair, it is a better name than Wild.

That said, I absolutely love the Wild logo and uniforms, which more than make up for the weirdly abstract name.

This is also a fantastic look, taking the classic North Stars uniform and evolving it to suit their current locale. Yes, it's a bit similar to the Blackhawks, and the logo has some minor issues like the NHL's insistence on using the green outlined version on black backgrounds because yay brand guidelines, and the Texas State patch drives me nuts because the D-Star is uncomfortably off-centre. But that aside they're easily among the Top 10 in the NHL.

I would keep the Wild's current forest green and use the '81 template. Green and yellow-gold are a natural.bobbycard_82111.jpg_cf.jpg.6bca01f1435100c93c5855dce84a14bc.jpg

Not that this will ever happen, but they'd have to use a lighter green.  I'm pretty sure Forrest green and athletic gold wouldn't fly in Minnesota,

so the question is really, what are the best sports identities? speaking only for the NFL, and as a Colts fan, i wouldn't trade the Indy identity for anything. but, i think the Atlanta Falcons have the best identity in the league.

start with the colors; you can apply red, white, and black in any order of hierarchy and its going to look powerful, fast, and beautiful. your marketing materials can be all red, or all black, whatever— you can't go wrong with the colors. same for the uniform, make the helmet whatever color and it still works

the logos (primary and wordmark) are excellent. the uniforms are excellent, and if the league ever figures out alternate helmets, they have that 60's uniform with the red helmet they can use as a throwback again.

the concept of speed and movement built into the identity is very flexible, there's all kinds of cool cultural things to pull from with Atlanta's history and local— its an identity that can't possibly become stale and the variations you can take with it are endless.

I have the opposite opinion of OP. I love the red and navy scheme of DC sports. It seems like a common scheme, but I feel like DC in a certain way truly owns the look. Plus, the red dominant/ navy trim scheme is rare anyway, compared to a blue dominant look.

With that said, I would give Washington's NFL team the red and navy look and identity similar to the Washington Valor:

I would go with maybe Washington Warriors, Washington Veterans, or something similar.

I don't dislike the RWB scheme for DC. I just sometimes wish it wasn't the default option. As I've said countless times, "federal," and therefore DC-related, color schemes can be two-tone green or blue and bronze/gold.

I also really do appreciate the red-dominant aspect of the Nats, Caps, and Wizards, as it evokes the DC flag.

And on the subject of the NFL team, I couldn't disagree with you more. I couldn't care less about the new name, but keeping the burgundy and gold is extremely important. Not only for my sense of identity to the team but for the team's ability to transition out of the name smoothly. Washington Pigskins. Everything else is the same except the logo. Done. Clean. Move on.

I liked when the Wizards and Capitals had the Blue, Black and Bronze/Gold.  Too Bad Leonsis bought them and had to make them RWB. A team called the Nationals pretty much has to be RWB though. And the Redskins have a unique scheme and should never change it even if they are eventually forced to change their name.

Sure, I think keeping the burgundy and gold is the most realistic option at this point (WITHOUT a desperate name like "Pigskins" or "Redtails").  I would also argue that as time passes and the overall reputation of the franchise continues to sink, there's new generations of DC sports fans who care less about the Redskins and it's identity. They are far more into the other DC sports than they are the football team these days, and if the Redskins adopt an identity that draws itself closer to the rest of DC sports they would certainly be into it. New name and new identity for the new stadium would be popular with a LOT of people.

This pretty much sums up the Redskins fandom in relation to DC sports today:

Nobody takes the Redskins seriously anymore. It's a joke. I caught the tail end of the Redskins' golden era as a kid, and I've seen it go down hill ever since. Get rid of the name and the colors...

If you told someone that there was a pro football team founded on the East Coast in 1932 that was called the "Pigskins," which is literally a nickname of the sport, nobody would find that strange. "The NFL is filled with storied franchises, like the Browns, Pigskins, Packers, and Steelers."

I bleed green and yellow but have always been a fan of Marquette solely because of their colors. Specifically the Jimmy Butler set of uniforms was so gorgeous on my eyes I just couldn't even help myself and ended up buying the powder blue shorts. I LOVE the striping pattern and all of the colors together make for a beautifully balanced uniform. I can't say I'm still a fan of their latest iteration though.

As a fan of another red and black wolf team I'm super jealous of NC State's logo now that they're using that wolf dude. This is what we get for shuffling through like five names before settling into the eventually doomed Indians name. Granted I like the Arkansas State wolf logo just fine (and I'm particularly fond of the stAte logo), but NC State's wolf is so much better. I didn't like any of NC State's other logos all that much though, like the block S and that diamond one.

I totally echo your sentiments. When the Kings ditched their royalty colours when Gretzky joined them in '88, they cost the NHL their one and only purple team. Purple and yellow-gold go as well together as the Sabres' original royal blue and yellow-gold  The Kings should wear their their classic purples as a full-time third, at least.

As for the Wild, the only thing they have going is their clever logo. That's it. The Wild is the worst name in the four major sports leagues. The Avalanche are the Avs. The Lightning are the Bolts. What are the Wild?? Because that franchise started in Minnesota, they should get the entire North Stars brand and history - '67-'93 - back. If MLB can have both the Red Sox and the White Sox, there should be no problem with both the Stars and North Stars. I would keep the Wild's current forest green and use the '81 template. Green and yellow-gold are a natural.

I dunno, I mean the Wizards..........seriously Wizards, that’s just soooo bad imo.
