I've seen this movie so many times and I could have sworn the pants had two red stripes. Looking it up they removed the black in 1996 which is one year after this movie.

Honestly, the Cardinals are such a boring team that I hardly ever notice anything about them or notice when they even play and realizing this about Jerry Maguire is just one of those examples. No offense to any Cardinals fans on this board, but they have never once had anything stand out to me aside from their current stadium. It's weird, it's almost like they should probably just do something ridiculous and off the wall with their uniforms but the problem is that it probably wouldn't work.

I feel like the team is cursed is just cursed man. They gotta get outta that curse.

I swear this is a Mandela Effect. I could've sworn that those pants had the two plain red stripes.

Too bad we have to wait a year. I wonder if this supply issue will affect any other teams planning for a secondary shell?

Seahakws have shared the same messaging recently.  In a perfect world, 2022 would have been possible I am sure.

Are they just using "supply chain issues" to cover up that it's the NFL rule that they had to have declared for the throwback jersey two years ago - before the one-helmet rule was lifted?

I thought it was common knowledge that 2023 was the first year most teams would be able to do a throwback uniform that required a different shell, unless they kept them in the style guide for the last however many years.

When you look at how frequently NBA and NHL teams release new uniforms, it seems a little fishy that the "supply chain" is to blame, when we already know there's a rule.

Pretty soon they'll be using "inflation" to justify hiking prices of their crappy jerseys (unless they already have?).

They don't need to use inflation, they just do it. A Browns authentic jersey is $350.

Buccaneers announce the return of the throwbacks in 2023

Love it. I can wait a year for this. Probably better that they don’t trot out there in these with Blane Gabbert manning the ship.

I think the supply chain issues have to deal more with producing fan jerseys and merchandise.

Probably but the on field uniforms themselves typically have long lead times as well. Last year everything was impacted because you had bottlenecks everywhere on the logistics and labor side of things. Upstream suppliers had to ramp so even if you had manufacturing capacity things took quite a while. Sports uniforms and apparel in general have traditionally operated with very long lead times of 9-12 months and moving so much production overseas has reduced responsiveness and flexibility. Things are slowly moving toward automation and manufacture on demand which is favorable for bringing back apparel domestically but there is a long way to go. There are others here who have more insider knowledge on the subject but this is a rough state of things.

TBH, I believe them. I recently took a job as a buyer for a pretty small winter sports apparel company (a somewhat new profession for me) and basically the entire thing has been dealing with backlog from the past two years and trying to figure out what we’re gonna do when half of our orders just don’t show up. It’s been pretty stressful, and the company I work for would be an eyelash on the Nike body.

Doesn't explain how Nike is able to outfit everyone else, and I would imagine Nike has fabric at every sweatshop everywhere.  But I'm neither an expert in sportswear manufacturing nor economics, so take that with the proverbial grain of salt

But we know that when they repealed the one-helmet rule, teams were given a deadline to add a second helmet for 2022.  We also know that the deadline was only for helmets, as the deadline for 2022 jerseys had already passed, and that teams would need to wait till 2023 if they were adding a new jersey.  We also now know (I'm assuming canzman knows his stuff) that TB removed the throwback jersey from their ensemble when they redesigned two seasons ago.

Therefore, they're lying.

That part is where I think you may be incorrect. Textile mills in particular were hit very hard by the lockdowns, and the companies that used to have pretty vast reserves of that kind of stuff are finding their stock dwindling. One of the items I buy is a very common brand and style of shoe, and we haven’t been able to get them in months because the manufacturers are having issues even getting enough of the proper thread to stitch it all together. They’ve actually stopped taking new orders for this product, and it’s the first time that model, which has been around for YEARS, has ever had that happen. Then when we do get shipments is comes rush ordered in bulk numbers and the shipping companies are having their own issues moving it, because it’s an industry wide issue right now. Every little bump in the line is going to cause huge slowdowns, and while companies like Nike should have the resources to overcompensate a bit, they also have the highest demand. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just put off the jersey issue a year because they can’t guarantee that they’ll receive the stock they want. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Riddell/Schutt/etc want to hold off on production because another industry that’s been hit particularly hard by this is raw plastics.

Im sure you’re correct with most of your thinking. I don’t trust Nike as far as I can throw Aaron Donald, but I do know from personal experience that the apparel industry in general right now is playing catch-up, and it’s probably going to be a few more years (sans more serious COVID restrictions) before it’s back on course.

Maybe I'm an optimist. Maybe I'm being naive, but I don't think the NFL is going to turn into College FB with regards to the multiple helmets.  I think we will see the majority of teams have 1 alternate shell, and some won't have any.

I just don't see the league allowing a free for all where we see a team like the Jets having green, white, black,  and anthracite/gray options in one year.

That won't happen (everyone with multiple helmets) for the simple reason that that NFL said the new policy would be that teams can only have an alternate 2nd helmet IF it's part of a set that goes with a throwback.  Example:  The NY JETS cannot have a black helmet because they'd never before worn one. Buffalo can only have a white, red, or silver helmet (1960, 1961) ....

This is what was said by the NFL when it was first announced.

You're late to the party, dude. The Washington Commanders just proved that secondary helmets don't have to be throwback related.

Not saying this was the reason, but it’s possible Washington was given a waiver due to their set coinciding with an entirely new identity.

Even then, I’m sure other teams would be biting at the bit to get non-throwback helmets.

All it takes is one crack to break the dam.
