MLB 2023 Uniform/Logo Changes

I’ve always had this bit of a crazy idea that has the Angels in white hats and helmets (as well as white socks and cleats) at home, at least as an alternate. I know white is a tough color for a baseball hat, but if any team is going to wear white head to toe, it might as well be a team called the Angels.

How about bring back the vest from the 2000's

And wear a white hat with a red brim. NC State already has a similar look.

Yeah, that’s pretty good. I totally forgot about those Angels vests, and I used to have one of those jerseys.

what did fan replicas of the vest jerseys look like? Just the vest, or was there a red undershirt sewn in?

It just had red sleeves instead of white.

Same for the Pirates vest jerseys of that era were just black sleeves.

I actually have an Angels Authentic Collection vest that's just the vest and no sleeves. I got it at a Rawlings outlet in 2002. I know Majestic took over the license in '02, so I'm not sure if I have some sort of prototype or how exactly that works.

I’m pretty sure authentic were vests with no sleeves, the replicas had colored sleeves

Anaheim wore Rawlings jerseys in 2002.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I hope you searched specifically for Brendan Donnelly to find this image 😄

But I didn't realize they didn't use Majestic. I guess my jersey isn't so special after all.

OMG… Brendan Donnelly, the Hold King. I can’t believe my fantasy league then even used that stat.

Change the halo to gold, slap it on the sleeve, and call it a day.

If they want to call themselves Los Angeles that's fine (I'd personally prefer to see them go back to 'California'), but the interlocking LA belongs to the Dodgers.

I wouldn’t go as far as white socks, but otherwise I like this idea.

Good on Nike for once. They're now limiting MLB teams to only four Jerseys, Home, Road, and two alternates. (Besides City Connect.) Things were starting to get out of hand, with teams having so many alternates. For instance, my Twins, before their rebrand this year, had their Home and Road jerseys, two Home Alternates, a Road Alternate, and a Throwback. AKA we had 6 different Jerseys in the rotation. It's rare when I say "Good Job Nike," but Good Job Nike!

https://news.sportslogos.net/2023/01/16/nikes-four-one-plan-for-mlb-uniforms-cards-city-connect-coming-in-2024/baseball/

Quote from Mothership article.

"'Nike is now doing all the jerseys — and one thing I’ll point out about Nike is that they have come to all the clubs and said, "We really want to sort of streamline uniforms." So there’s a model out there that they want to stick to called "four plus one."' said DeWitt III, as transcribed by the St Louis Post Dispatch. "You have four jerseys that you can wear — home, road and two alternates — plus your City Connect when you unveil that."'

Great news! Now teams that only need two uniforms will have five uniforms. If Nike wants to streamline uniforms, they have a funny way of showing it.

Wow, wonder if the pirates will can one of the two redundant black jerseys or the totally useless camo they recycled from like 4 memorial days ago?  This might explain the rays dropping the gray jersey (which they rarely wear anyway) so they’d have white, navy, Columbia, and devil ray.

The way I read this was that teams who have gone crazy with alternates (such as Arizona) will have to pare down to four options, not that teams who don't have any alternates (Yankees, Tigers, etc.) will be forced to adopt new ones.

I read it the same  as @coco1997.  It's never said that teams will have to have 4+1, just sounds like that would be the maximum.

Now thinking about it, there are a few teams that will have to potentially unload a jersey.

- Mariners (home, road, cream, navy, teal)

- Red Sox (home, road, red, blue, Patriots Day?)

- Rangers (home, road, light blue, royal, red)

- D-Backs (home, road, home w/aqua, black, red)

- Phillies (home, road, red, cream, blue throwback)

- Pirates (home, road, white military, Pirates black, Pittsburgh black)

- Blue Jays (home, road, royal, light blue, red?)
