NFL 2023 Changes

Panther's black helmet looks fine to me. I just wish there was a splash of silver on it, and the pants. Now, the silver stripes on the shoulders are basically the only silver in the set. Now those seem out of place to me. They went from being a pretty good balance of blue, silver, and black. I'm fine with them leaning more towards blue and black, but they needed to commit to that on the jersey as well.

I’m sure it’s been said before, but isn’t Washington allowed to change uniforms under new ownership?

If so, it’s nearly useless considering it takes 18-24 months for the process. Rendering the change at essentially 4 years into the current design.

Unless they're white, there's not going to be a surprise. He may just be talking about the fact the previous version was a fully mesh uniform, whereas this one is probably going to be on the new Nike template.

The surprise is they're going to be mono-orange with red to white gradient numbers and TAMPA in 6" high letters on the chest.

Taking any stock from what one of the players say is just silly.

I don't know if--not that this matters in the grand scheme of things--I'd want to see the white-jersey version of the creamsicles...and DEFINITELY not the 1976 0-for version. 0-14 ain't nothing to commemorate...at all

And actually, now that we're talking about this (*Bucjack immiment*)...recently I'd been going back and watching highlights of the old Buccaneers I grew up cheering for, and...yeah I think I'm about at that point. That away look (and sometimes home, since even back then they were keen to wearing white at home) might've been a tad more tolerable had they kept it to white-on-white...but those orange pants...man, they stick out like a sore thumb now when I watch them. I mean, just look at this:

That's about as loud as loud gets. Now contrast with the white-over-whites:

I still adore the orange jersey/white pants combo--and I'm never not going to--but those orange pants (which showed up in '92 IIRC) were just not it.

They should be white, considering they only ever wore the orange tops a couple of times a year.  A quick search through GUD shows that in its last 10 years, orange was worn no more than 4x / season... and that was only one season.  Usually it was only 1 or 2x  / year.  Most (but not all) of the time the orange was worn on the road against teams that went WAH.

I rarely saw the Bucs on TV other than highlight shows, but I collected football cards and it always seemed super rare to see the orange jerseys.  The white over orange Bucs is what I grew up with, though white over white would also be appropriate.

Lifelong buc fan here, the white bucco Bruce had 2 big problems for me  1) red numbers 2) orange pants with orange socks. Plus they were over worn. The one game in orange is nice for nostalgia and that’s it. This creates an additional issue, this plus the pewter jersey takes even more games away from the red…which is worn red/white. Red/pewter is the default home uniform and seem to be used 2x per year. What David is probably referring to is adding fire to the uniform by having white socks, purple shoes or whatever travesty a player is feeling like doing nowadays.

Well, the Bucs did change their orange from a really pastel shade to something closer to U of Tennessee sometime in the 1990s (which is actually the reason I became a fan), and the throwbacks they used his rookie season were the original (and imo, superior) orange color. These new ones could be the darker orange.

But, if they go throwback white, I’ll do a backflip. I’ve been looking specifically for a white Bucs throwback for awhile now.

That still doesn't look good since the helmet looks completely out of place.

General Rule of Thumb:  light helmets require light pants.

It never looks good when a White or Silver helmet is paired with very dark pants.  It’s always unbalanced.
