2023 NFL Regular Season Through Super Bowl LVIII

Recommended Posts

I would be fine with McCaffrey or Lamar Jackson at this point.  I’d probably lean towards Lamar because as much as it sucks that it’s basically a QB-only award at this point, it’s hard to argue that the player that touches the ball on every offensive possession, is responsible for getting the offense out of or into certain plays, etc. isn’t the most valuable.

With Lamar specifically, even if the numbers aren’t gaudy, his mobility (even just the threat of it) is still what makes the whole thing go.

As far as Russell Wilson, this is basically to prevent him from getting injured in the last two games, which could lead to a huge guarantee in 2025. I don’t know if this means they move on from him this off-season but I believe it does mean they are making sure it’s an option.

Hope they do release him, personally. He hasn’t been awful  awful and I don’t think the cap situation will improve much but he’s been bad enough and I don’t think I can stomach watching him panic in a clean pocket and start running backwards anymore.

And hanging every shortcoming of Fields on bad coaching, bad protection, bad receivers, and good opposing defenses means that they, albeit in a different way, are also just basing their entire assessment on vibes.

Putting any faith in Justin Fields on the field is like putting faith in a YouTube person to make a good apology video. It just won’t happen and time will make it look worse.

”All aboard!!! The Justin Fields train, riding down the tracks to the disappointment station…”

I don't think he really ripped anyone off, he's on a rookie deal, he's just not complete enough to win playoff games with. I think he'll be an enticing project for a team or two until his legs give out. I could see the Falcons or Saints taking a flyer on him, maybe the Broncos, maybe even the Raiders, they're always doing dumb crap that makes no sense.

He can’t win regular season games to even get to the playoffs

Correct - he didn't rip anyone off.  Can't blame a guy for being drafted too high, and if the Bears hadn't, someone else would have.

They took a shot, it didn't work out, so they should move on.  Chances are, because they're the Bears, they'll double down and give him some stupid extension, but they shouldn't.

He's one of those guys that I don't see too many teams wanting as a backup, since he has a very specific style that doesn't work in many teams' offenses.  Maybe he's an upgrade from Mariota to be Hurts' backup, but he'd have to accept $15/hr to do that.

said "the Bear" instead of "the Bears", because I'm watching The Bear, which might bet he best show that nobody's talking about.

We need a Browns-Lions Super Bowl!

I was actually thinking about this the other day, and there's still a possibility that all 4 teams to never play in a Super Bowl (CLE, DET, JAX, HOU) could make the playoff field this year.

Mathematically possible? Sure. It should even be realistically possible. But as we've seen with this team, that's anything but a gimme, even against the lowly Panthers this week and at the Snatit the following week. And of course, even if Jacksonville wins this week, the Snatit could go full-Snatit and beat Jacksonville the following week, which would then trigger a whole chain of tiebreaker scenarios which would then either see the Jags in as a wild-card or knock them out the tournament.

Of course, the Jags can avoid that entire maze of whatdaeffness by simply taking care of business these last two games. (And not for nothing, but JAX is currently on a three-game win streak vs the Snatit after dropping the previous five, so there's that.)

Thrilled for Browns fans. Everyone outside the AFC North without a dog in the fight should be behind these guys. What a story.

Imagine if the Browns were in this position and they hadn’t already preemptively ruined the good feels by signing a rapist to the largest ever guaranteed deal in league history.

Much like winning the finals in those ugly black sleeved jerseys, Cleveland just can’t have nice things.
