Losing Robert Saleh & DeMeco Ryans back to back hurt but Wilks seemed like an odd fit. The defense was on and off all year. They played like crap in the playoffs against the Packers & Lions (probably should've lost both games). We'll see if they hire from with in or go outside (Mike Vrabel or Brandon Staley).

Vrabel becoming DC and then taking an assistant from the offensive side of the ball the next time he gets an HC gig would be really interesting.

To fire a coach after the SB when most of the popular candidates have already been hired would imply that they know exactly who they're targeting, and it's either a current position coach or one of the fired HCs that are out there.  The thing with the latter is that they'd possibly be one-and-done

Would Belichick take a DC gig?  Have also heard that Rex Ryan might want back in.  Staley would make sense, as he's not a shoo-in to get a HC job next year like Vrabel might be.

Oh I know, I always wonder why these QBs continue to play rather than coach.  Surely Tim Boyle will make a better coach than a player because the only reason he continues to get QB jobs in the NFL is his ability to dissect film in a QB room, this despite the fact that he was awful in college and awful in the NFL.

Backup player money >>> Quality Control Assistant money, and probably also position coach money

Obviously the Chiefs will be on the Week 1 Thursday opener next season,  so who should they play? 4 scheduled opponents come to mind: Ravens, Bengals, Texans or Chargers.

Going by past history of the kickoff game, they don't seem to schedule divisional matchups (outside of 2019 when Packers-Bears was the kickoff game in honor of the NFL 100 season, and didn't feature the Super Bowl champ).  Chiefs also played Houston in 2020 to kickoff the season.  For those reasons, I wouldn't count on Texans or Chargers.

I could see it being Tampa. The Mayfield storyline is hot and it's a rematch of the SB a couple years ago

Taking everything into account, it'll probably be Tampa Bay.

A new trend when assembling coaching staffs: new random titles for coaches such as "Pass Game Coordinator" or "Run Game Coordinator" or "Pass Game Specialist" or "Run Game Specialist" for both sides of the ball.    There's still the usual "Assistant Head Coach" and also "Senior Offensive/Defensive Assistant"

Waiting for the day an NFL team hires a "Kicking Game Coordinator" even though they already have a special teams coach.

Sounds like he got caught smoking weed without his rec card. I can’t imagine the league would still suspend a guy over that, though.

The NFL relaxed the weed rules after Gordon, but they still have them. The threshold to count is much higher and as long as you're not in the drug protocol, your chance of getting screened is negligible.

Not really a new trend.  Even in early '00s, the Eagles had 'run game coordinator' (usually the OL coach), and a pass-game coordinator (or specialist... can't remember), usually the WR coach.

I think in part, the titles are like the BS "associate head coach" ones which are to make a title seem bigger than it is, since unless expressed permission is granted, coaches can only leave for "promotions".

Is "associate head coach" above "OC"?  LOL no, of course it's not, but "RB Coach / Asst Head coach" is enough to block a guy from being allowed to jump for a RB coach job, and maybe if it came down to it, it could be argued that "Associate Head Coach" is the #2 in command.

It's all nonsense.

For the record, Araiza (who was accused of being involved in a gang rape) is very likely innocent and was unfairly accused.

Spoiler

From Wikipedia: The San Diego County District Attorney's Office did not file criminal charges against Araiza or the other two teammates, stating, "Ultimately, prosecutors determined it is clear the evidence does not support the filing of criminal charges and there is no path to a potential criminal conviction".[34] Prior to the announcement, the office met with the accuser and her attorney to discuss their decision to not press charges.[35] Based on a witness and other information, the district attorney's office stated that Araiza could not have been involved as he had "left the party at 12:30 [am]",[36][37] about 30 minutes before the first of about nine short videos of sex acts of the alleged encounter.[35] The accuser's lawyer said that the witness was a "buddy".[36] Araiza does not appear in the videos, each less than 10 seconds long.[35][36] According to the accuser's lawyer, police had the accuser make a pretext phone call to Araiza wherein he admitted that they had sex, which he said was consensual, claimed that the accuser lied to him about her age[38][39] and said that he remained outside afterwards "for the rest of the party."[39] On July 28, 2023, Araiza filed a defamation lawsuit against his accuser.[40]

On December 12, 2023, Araiza and his accuser mutually agreed to drop their respective lawsuits against each other with neither party admitting any wrongdoing and no money changing hands. Araiza still retains the right to sue his accuser's lawyer, Dan Gilleon.[41]

TL;DR, He didn’t engage in any nonconsensual sex with anyone. He left before the incident occurred and got roped in with the actual rapists.

If there were any proof that he was involved, I’d be the first to say he should rot in jail for the rest of his life and never see a football field ever again. That is not the case. Unfortunate that he got caught up in it, though not nearly as unfortunate as what happened to that poor girl. I hope she gets justice.

Yeah. It’s innocent until proven guilty and at the very least, he wasn’t found guilty and at the very most, the woman lied about his involvement in some life-ruination scam. Personally, it sounds like this dude was a drunken dumbass more than anything else. Sorry my team believes in giving people second chances. Glad none of you have ever :censored:ed up.
