I love how the numbers on the road jersey's outlining scheme is gold-light blue-navy. It makes the light blue like a "hidden" color. It's like something we see in concepts all the time, but never actually see on an actual uniforms. Usually the lightest color would make up the middle outline.

Has anyone else noticed that they have yet to show the helmet being worn with a white jersey? In my opinion, the white helmet with white jersey is the worst combo due to the different bolt treatment. Seems they've realized this and are purposely not showing them together on a player. Hopefully that means they'll be altering something to fix the problem.

That's exactly why I DON'T like it. By having the yellow closest to the white and the light blue in the middle, it looks like one muddy color rather than an outlined number when viewed from a distance.

On the whole, I think they managed to botch this eagerly anticipated uniform update. In fact, they could have made the following simple changes to the current set and had an easy upgrade:

1. Switch the white and yellow with each other everywhere the lightning bolt appears (so that the bolt is yellow, outlined with navy and white).

2. Make the facemask yellow.

3. Eliminate the blue pants, thus eliminating the unitard effect. (The white jersey with white pants combo, with the matching blue panels containg the lightning bolts, were a totally underrated set when they were used, IMHO.)

4. Continue to wear the throwbacks a couple times a year.

In the new set, the inconsistency of the panel on which the bolt appears messes up what had been a very cohesive design.

How was this eagerly anticipated? It came out of the blue and before they even finished the design, we'd all pretty much seen it.

I guess I used the term "eagerly anticipated" because the topic of incorporating powder blue into the Chargers' uni set has only come up about a thousand times since I started reading this board...

There are a few little things that bug me about this upgrade (and yes, it is an upgrade, IMO).

The number set I'm not crazy about, but I'm more impartial to it then I dislike it. I don't like the wordmark under the collar, I could see the point for some teams, but what other NFL team has lightning bolts on their jerseys? They don't need the wordmark to help identify the jerseys. I would have preferred it if the collars on the navy and powder blue jerseys were navy and powder blue, respectively. The navy collar on the white sweater is fine. I'm also not a fan of the wordmark on the back of the helmet.

All of these little things, however, fail to "bring the uniform down," IMO.

The uniforms as a whole are still amazing. Yes, the bolts are placed on the sleeves rather then the shoulders, but again I think that was a necessary change, due to shrinking sleeves.

The powder blue highlights, the white inserts on the blue jerseys and pants, the yellow bolts, and white helmet all help bring a sense of "pop" back into the Chargers' uniforms that has been missing since the adoption of the navy set in the late '80's. The previous set was bland, with navy and white serving as the main colours, with yellow reduced to trim. The new set, with the yellow bolts and white inserts on the navy jerseys and pants, help bring the uniforms alive again.

The white helmet is even an improvement. It has historical precedents, which means they didn't just pull it out of their a$$. It also helps separate the Chargers' helmet from the Broncos helmet.

When the Broncos went to navy helmets it bugged me that their helmet had the same "look" as the Chargers' helmet: navy helmets, with a elongated white logo, with a warm colour trim. It was made worse by the fact that the two teams had almost identical colour set-ups.

The Broncos were navy-navy-white at home, as were the Chargers. The Broncos were navy-white-white on the road, one of the two road combos the Chargers also had.

This new Chargers uniform not only ties all of the past uniform elements together to make a modern but tasteful update, but it also helps differentiate the Bolts from one of their division rivals as far as colours and uniforms go.

I noticed the Chargers will have white helmets this season with blue facemasks and the bolt being gold with powder blue and navy blue trim. I also saw the picture of LaDamian Tomlinson with the full uniform and found out that the numbers will be on the back of the helmet. The Chargers should have put the numbers under the lightning bolts as a tribute to the 1960's Chargers of John Hadl, Lance Alworth, and Ernie Ladd (RIP, Big Cat).

Atlanta Braves, please bring back the Indian Head logo.

I'm also not a fan of the wordmark on the back of the helmet.

The thing that people seem to be missing is that every NFL team does that. Is nothing new. Its the bumper plates that cover up the Riddell decals. Schutt's obviously doesnt have the Riddell bumpers, but they still use the stickers.

If you look at the back of this helmet, thats how its supposed to look (Obviously not LT's helmet, he doesnt wear Riddell. Or jersey for that matter. Ugh)

And as you can (barely) see here, marvin harrisson wears a Schutt but slaps the sticker on the back of it anyway. If I can find a better pic ill show you what I mean.

everyone says this is a downgrade, i am going on a limb and say this change is a SIDEGRADE. I don't think they improved it but i don't really think this is a downgrade as much. I think people here are 'OMFG a new unis HEAD FOR THE HILLS'. And compared to the eye sores of recent new unis IE Cards, Falcons, and Vikes, this is a whole of lot better.

I think its just more noticeable on the cragers cause its above where that would normally appear.

I refuse to believe any of this until we see it. White helmets? Yeah... right.

Does anyone else think that this looks like an eBay reject (I'm talking about the misalignment issues here):

It's an optical illusion. Because the 4 is much wider than the 1, its center is farther to the right as we look at it, but when looking at the numbers together we see they are centered perfectly on the jersey.

That thing looks like it hurts.

That alignment issue is one reason I never took to numbers beginning with "4", particuarly "41" and "47"...cuz even when they are perfectly aligned on a jersey, they STILL look off-center from the nameplate above it.

Of course, THIS here looks REALLY off-aligned. That's just...that ain't even close to cool.

Were the Chargers really THAT eager to get this look out to the public? Off-aligned sewing, bolts going different directions on the white/home and alt powder blue jerseys...

Oh, and one more thing: someone else on here hit on the topic that he thought (like I did) that NFL teams, after rolling out a new design, had to wait at least 2 seasons before rolling out a 3rd/alt. But then it got brought up about the Falcons having 3 jerseys when they unveiled their new look.

Maybe that ain't such a hard-line rule after all...but then, with all the fans in SD (and halfway across the country) CLAMORING for the powders to be the primary, maybe it was inevitable that the Chargers roll out the powder blue alternate along with the new sets.

I still say the whole setup remind me too much of the Power Rangers, though...

The "cragers"?? If they were the Cragers they'd have this on the helmet... :D

To the point here, the problem with the Chargers' new look is that unlike the Colts and most other teams, the bolt logo reaches all the way back into that rear area where they'll have the number and the wordmark. Thus it looks very cluttered.
