spyboy1
1989 NCAA Ice Hockey Championship Final. Minnesota is playing Harvard in St. Paul, Minnesota and the game goes to overtime. It's been 10 years since Minnesota last won the championship and that was when I was too young to follow the team.I had invested a lot of myself in that team that year, going to all but one home game and not having a season ticket either. We were loaded, getting back several players who competed in the Olympics the year before and a handful who when onto play in the NHL, something that was less common for college teams back then. We smoked our league, winning by 16 points. And in overtime Randy Skarda hit the pipe. He hit the damn pipe. We were that close to winning the National Championship and he hit the pipe. Then it happened. A faceoff in our end, right in front of me. Harvard - HARVARD of all teams, wins the faceoff, the puck goes into the slot and they put it behind our Hobey Baker winning goalie and it all - just - ends. DG_ThenNowForever
I actually woke up in the middle of the night pissed off about last night's Bills game. That has never, ever happened to me before. This whole Bills season so far is a bad dream. They're literally two seconds away from being 3-2, having only lost (well, been blown out by) the arguably the two best teams in the league. It's maddening. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
TFoA
AH. Forgot about this one:2004 High School Football: Lithia Springs vs. McIntosh. To start off, until this year, my alma mater...Hey, I missed your bio - which is your alma mater? I'd assume McIntosh since they're listed to the right and that's the usual place for the home team but who knows? I only ask 'cause I lived in Lithia Springs for a while.Lithia Springs is. I'm too used to soccer where the home team is listed on the left.

Ben5
The first thing that comes to mind is the second round of the NCAA basketball tournament in 2005. The Deacs get a number two seed when they clearly deserved a number one seed. They had to travel the farthest of all the two seeds, which made no sense. We lost to WV in overtime. That was supposed to be our year! I think the campus was on suicide watch after that one. But that is nothing compared to what would happen a few months down the road.January 8, 2006. Although campus had officially been open for the semester for two days, I had been there for three. The Demon Deacons were to take on the Duke Blue Devils at home, and the earlier I got to campus the better seat I got. But the bigger story of the night was the fact that the Bengals were in the playoffs for the first time I could remember. I had to be present at the coliseum to get a good seat, so I only got to see a few plays of the game before I left. I turned off the TV after I saw Carson complete a 66 yard pass to Chris Henry, giving me confidence in a Cincinnati. If I had left the TV on a second longer, I would have seen that Carson had to be carted off the field after a shot to his leg. Henry too was injured on that play. Of course, the Deacs got killed, which happened to be the first time I ever saw them lose on their home court. Good think I didn't drink, or I would have gotten hamered that night. hormone
Here's mine...Pirates: 1. Early 90's...Pirates at Atlanta...Sid Bream...'nuff said. It sent us into year 1 of the 5 year (now on 15 years) plan of rebuilding the team.Pens: 1. Watching 66 skate off the ice for the last time. 2. When they cheaped out and sold off Jagr, Kovalev, Straka, etc for guys that aren't even in the league any more.TB Bucs: 1. '99 vs. Rams. I thought this was their best (and only at the time) shot at a title being taken away by Ricky Proehl and a questionable incompletion. 2. The year after the SB win, we were favored to repeat, but Gru, Keyshawn and everyone who can lace their shoes egos dismantled the team sending us into a (continued) downward spiral. 3. Drafting Bo Jackson (and most of their other first rounders)Celtics: 1. Bird's retirement and knowing that was the last of the competitive Celtic teams.Miami Hurricanes: 1. Being jobbed in the Fiesta Bowl on the interference call and having the title taken away. They've been on a downward spiral since with bad players, coaches, bad recruiting classes, etc and they should have been back to back champs (or three peats...see #2) 2. Getting jobbed in the BCS in 2001 and letting FSU, a team they beat, get the title shot. 3. Watching them be North Carolina's bitches in football, baseball, as well as basketball (no argument on basketball) lately.
PeytonManningRocks
A couple other ones for me that I just thought of....2002 NBA WC Semis Game 6.....The Lakers' run at a 4-peat ends thanks to Duncan and the Spurs2006 NBA WC Quarters Game 6..... Tim Thomas knocks down 3-pointer to send it to OT, Suns win and go on to rout LA in Game 72005-06 and 2006-07 LA Kings' seasons.and my most recent one..Patriots vs. Colts.... Super Bowl XLI 1/2..... all that hype only to come crashing down at the end.... I was so excited when Addai had the long TD run... and then when Manning had that last fumble I didn't want to talk to anyone for the next couple days.... too bad, because now the entire 2007 NFL season and playoffs are irrelevant, no way the Pats lose anything. Sport
1995- the Reds get swept by Atlanta in the NLCS. My first year of following a team real closely. I loved those 95 Reds.1998- Ohio State loses to Boston College in the Frozen four. They had no business being there but I had been to so many games that year. This was before they played in the Schottenstein Center. They played in a dump and somehow squeaked into the tournament after losing to MSU in the CCHA championship game. Once in the tournament they upset a few teams. When Jeff Maud misplayed a puck that turned into a goal, I was so sad. They would have played Michigan in the final and it would have been epic.1998-Ohio State football loses to Michigan State while ranked number one at home. I cried1999- Ohio State Basketball loses to Uconn in the final four.1999- The Reds lose a one game playoff to the Mets. If they had won that many games this year, they would've won the division by 11 games. That year it wasn't good enough for the wildcard.2005- The Bengals lose to the Steelers in the playoffs. Carson Palmer hurt on the first play.
infrared41
2003 was the year I became a die-hard Red Sox fan. Before that year I was a fan, but not nearly to the extent that I am now.I was just going over this thread to see if I could figure out why it was brought back after a month when I stumbled across the above quote. After all the you gave me during the Indians-Red Sox series, I come to find out you're not even a "true" Red Sox fan? Sorry Mr. Frontrunner but you just lost all credibility. You are exactly who I was talking about in the Playoff thread and you still had the gall to argue with me. "I became a die-hard fan in 2003?" I wasn't aware there were levels of being a Red Sox fan. You either are or you're not. Ask any legitimate Red Sox fan and they'll tell you the same thing. In fact, why don't you explain your position to Bill Simmons and see what he says? Kudos for having the guts to pose as a real member of Red Sox nation but if I had seen this back when the debate was going I wouldn't have wasted the time typing a response to your posts. Geez... Oh yeah, I was looking to see if I ever posted my most painful memory. That's how I ended up exposing InTheEnd88 for the Red Sox poser he is.
