Looks like John Henry was too busy signing Suso, instead of trying to keep V-Mart in Boston. I don't think upper management really knows what to do with the organization, since one person (Theo Epstein) is saying it's going to be another bridge year and one person (Tom Werner) is saying that they're going to go all out and buy some talent this winter. I'm a little disappointed, but looks like having Saltalamacchia and maybe Vartiek as the catchers will be the most likely scenario.

Yanks make their best offer, Derek Jeter to test free agent market.

Even if Jeter re-signs with the Yankees, it seems like that relationship has gotten a little strained. I agree that the Yankees are offering the most he is gonna get.

Not only that, the Yankees are the only team that's willing to keep him at SS.

Jeter needs a reality check if he think someone else will want him at SS with the money he wants.

Wally Backman was fired for dumb reasons. A DUI? A domestic disturbance? Declaring bankruptcy? IMO those are :censored:ty reasons to fire someone, especially if he had already been qualified and hired.

The first two set a poor example for the team that he is in charge of managing. The latter implies poor judgment. And not telling your employer about any of that is grounds for termination from just about any job.

In the interests of full disclosure, Terry Collins, who got the Mets job, was convicted of a DUI in 2002. He did say he openly talked about it during his interviews however, wasn't hiding anything.

But it's not necessary to disclose that stuff at an interview. It is the responsibility of the company hiring you to perform a background check prior to hiring you.

DUI's are public record. Anyone can perform a quick online background check to view your criminal history.

I've never been asked about my criminal background during an interview, and I have held three engineering positions with the federal government.

C/1B Victor Martinez leaves Boston, signs with the Tigers.

Hell of a pickup, I know they have upgraded from Laird to Martinez is great, but lets see them pick up some more bats and go after Crawford

Rumors flying around that the Red Sox are interested in signing Derek Jeter.

I just don't see it. I know Jeter is looking for more than what the Yankees are offering. However, Boston could offer double what the Yanks are, and I still think "The Captain" would deny it. His reputation and what NYC think of him, matters too much for him to sign with the hated Sawks.

I doubt Jeter would sign in Boston that would destroy everything he has meant to the Yankees, he would never be welcomed back. Even if he left and signed in Detroit lets say he will spend the rest of his life being the guest of honor at Old Timer's Day, being the ceremonial Yankee well into his 80s. All of that will be lost forever if he did that.

No it wouldn't. Right now you say that, but if Jeter plays a season or two with Boston it really won't matter. I mean people will definitely boo, but if Yankee fans are really stupid enough to hate Jeter forever for three seasons with the Sox after all he did for the Yankees, then they're all idiots. Even if he were to win a title with Boston, which I don't see happening, he still was such a legend with the Yankees that it'll eventually overshadow him leaving, no matter where he goes. Baseball is a business and the Yankees already encouraged him to look elsewhere for a better deal. If Boston happens to be ridiculous enough to offer Jeter what he wants, why would he not take it? Really, the only scenario I can see where the hate would be just barely justified is if the Sox happen to beat the Yanks in game 7 of the ALCS where Jeter goes 4 for 5 with the game winning RBI or something like that.

Has Red Sox Nation ever really forgiven Wade Boggs for his brief stint in pinstripes?

Yes. We just have never really forgiven him for his lack of production in the postseason.

Why? He tried hard to produce, didn't he? Red Sox Nation Customers need to get over themselves if they dislike a guy because he didn't do well in the postseason.
