NHL 2011-2012: Possible Uniform Changes

^ Didn't the Rangers faithful utterly despise that design back in the day, leading to the team switching back to their traditional uniform?

The primary logo, appearing on the front of a jersey?! Sacrilege!

Yes...but for a one-time novelty it's different enough to sell to people.

Except that it's just their current primary logo slapped on the front of a jersey, so it's kind of just like a current-era fashion jersey.

A Winnipeg Jets jersey no less

Maybe they could do it all over again and give those WC jerseys to the 2012 Winnipeg team when they're done with them.

Or more like a Rangers jersey that the Jets adopted.

Lets not argue about something that means so little. They both used a similar jersey template, and eventually ditched them.

Touche, though those jerseys worked far better for the Jets than the Rangers. Just curious, does anybody else think the Jets first logo is far superior to the one they had before they moved to Phoenix? You have this logo with a depiction of an actual jet...

Then you have this one with an arbitrary grouping of triangles trying in vain to represent a jet... Though I will say that the contrail through the text is a nice touch.

Both logos suck, though.

The first logo has a circle within a circle within another circle containing a jet, with two amateurish wordmarks.

The last one has the side view of a rolled up condom with a superfluous drop shadow on it, coupled with ugly ass drop shadows on the wordmark only in the outside of the circle.

Neither logo is very good. The first logo has '70s kitsch appeal, but I hate that it reads "Jets Winnipeg." The second one is just okay, and is only revered because the Jets' failure to be saved has forever preserved it in amber. It never would've made it to 1999 without a significant 4 THE NEW MILLENNIUM update.

Which would have been terrible itself and not have survived past 2006. I agree with your sentiment that should the Jets come back (and they should), they ought to have a new logo in the same colors, then double-dip by selling throwback stuff alongside the current gear. Of course, keep the new logo somewhat simple and make the jerseys look more like traditional hockey jerseys instead of a team of RBK cyborgs from the future, otherwise we would again run into the problem of a team reverting to throwbacks (or fake throwbacks like Buffalo) due to fan backlash against the ultra-modern crap they were wearing.

Personally I think the Jets need to add another accent colour to differentiate themselves from the New York Rangers. Blue should remain the primary colour with white and red as secondaries but the addition of tertiary would help give them a unique identity. Perhaps a really subtle shade of forest green used sparingly? No NHL team uses Red, Blue and Green together and it'd be a nice nod to Manitoba Moose.

Just my two cents, I'm sure plenty will disagree.

My idea was kind of a greyish sky blue. What's more upper midwestern than that. Green is intriguing, but I'm not sure how they'd all go together.

No team anywhere uses red, green and blue together for a reason. It would be a flustercuck.

Also, as much as the "first" (technically second) Jets logo meant in my childhood, the jet used in the logo itself is a passenger jet. Air Canada doesn't exactly strike as much fear into opponents as a warplane would.

I think any new Winnipeg team would either retain the Moose colors, or something similar to them, or try to align closely with the Blue Bombers and go with Navy and Old Gold. Of course, I have nothing to back either statement up, just a feeling.

I'm sure someone could prove otherwise but I don't think there is any shade of those three colors that could go together and not be overpowering.

Right, but isn't that what all of the 29 other teams in the league do? I don't see anyone not buying Red Wing jerseys because it's just their primary logo slapped on the front of a jersey.

not that i think it would make sense for a winnipeg jets color scheme, but i saw a poster for some darfur benefit a few years ago that had 3 flames. a red flame, a blue flame, and a green flame. on a black background. and i thought that it was very unique and striking and attractive color scheme.

got me wondering why no sports team on earth has ever really used it.

There is some chatter on the hfboards that true north will go with the name Winnipeg falcons. Jersey would be blue and red with gold accents. Just rumors though.

While I would prefer a return of the Jets, I wouldn't mind Falcons. There is a lot of history behind the name as well. I also think it is appropriate since it would keep with the bird theme from the Thrashers.

Blue Red and Gold would be interesting. Wonder if it is a Bruins-like gold or more of a vegas gold (which I think would look nice with Blue and Red).

Ok so I know that Jets is a really sought after name for whoever ends up there in the near future, but would people really care all that much if they ended up being called something else?

the only way i support them being the winnipeg jets is if they're the winnipeg jets. if it's not the coyotes, it's not the jets.

the atlanta thrashers are not the winnipeg jets, just as the wild aren't the north stars, the texans aren't the oilers, the thrashers aren't the flames, and the avs aren't the rockies.

and the washington nationals aren't the washington senators.

if the thrashers move to winnipeg, i'd hope that they come up with a completely new identity, and honor the thrashers history books as their own. anything else would be trying to force a square peg into a round hole, as far as i'm concerned.
