Identity: the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. Can you really say that Oregon's uniforms don't fit that definition? Their "identity" (what they are) is using a gazillion different uniforms. I wear different clothes every day. Does that mean I don't have an identity? If you ask anyone who follows college football even a little bit which team is known for wearing a gazillion different crazy uniforms, they'll all say Oregon. That, young Wildcat, is an identity in my book.

Then we'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't see it as an identity, I see it as attention whoring.

Well, that attention has increased their application pool by 100%. I just checked with my college consular. Nike is getting Oregon attention that it hasn't ever come close to receiving. Sorry, I was just looking at colleges today and found it interesting

I too don't see any way in which it's not an identity. Does it not meet all of the criteria laid out in this wikipedia (yeah, I know) definition of Brand Identity?

Did UnderArmour rip off the Maryland helmet concept from a Baltimore roller derby club?

As pointed out by the Baltimore Sun, there are striking similarities between the helmets worn by the Terrapins last night and the helmets worn by? wait for it? the Charm City Roller Girls? All-Stars team. According to the team?s captain Hillary Rosensteel ? whose roller nickname is ?Rosie the Rioter?, incidentally ? the helmets are ?not identical, but they?re shockingly similar.?

Pretty sure you can't trademark a design that's your own state flag. Just sayin'.

I'm usually not someone who embraces a radical, apparel manufacturer-driven reworking of a university's football uniforms. Far too often, such redesigns are "change for the sake of change".

That said, if Under Armour were to swap the left and right shoulder yoke inserts/sleeve caps on these white University of Maryland alternate uniforms, I'd advocate the Terrapins switching to them as their full-time home uniforms. The way the combination of the helmet and shoulder yoke design elements would invoke the Maryland state flag would be both unique and striking.

I think it's possible that the graphics were kept consistent from helmet to jersey (unlike the actual flag) to make it easier for the QB to spot receivers. A QB glancing up quickly downfield will easily know the inside/outside shoulders of the receiver, instead of having to decide if it was the helmet or jersey he saw first.
