He probably means the Blazers.

I think the Blazers get too much flack for that. This is a team that already had Fat Lever, Calvin Natt, Jim Paxson and a young Clyde Drexler who they had just spent a first round pick on the year before. Nobody drafts the same position in the first round two straight years and they already had four starters to cover the three positions.

The biggest need of the Blazers at the time was a defensive minded big man and Sam Bowie fit the bill perfectly. The mindset made perfect sense. Nobody knew Jordan was going to be the kind of player he wound up becoming, otherwise he would have gone to the Rockets who did not have much of a backcourt and easily could have made room for Jordan and the Blazers would have picked Olajuwon. If the Blazers still make the Kiki Vandeweghe deal now were talking about a team that can seriously challenge the Lakers for the Western conference title because they would have had a starting five of Olajuwon, Mychal Thompson, Vandeweghe, Drexler and Darnell Valentine (later Terry Porter if they still draft him). So if Portland wants to blame somebody blame Houston.

He means the Blazers. What's pretty crazy is that a very similar scenario unfolded over 20 years later with the same franchise and they made the exact same goof again. Sports are cool.

The rebrand or the hiring of Mike Milbury? :P

Both!

They changed the logo back...they still haven't recovered from Milbury's Reign of Error. :P

That one was far worse.

They had to know Greg Oden was not fully healthy they day they drafted him and here you had another guy of equal talent that did not have any injury concerns and the Blazers chose to ignore the injury concerns.

Granted Oden's had alot of bad luck, but the Blazers had to know his knees were shot the day they picked him.

Cool, a chance to crap all over Gary Bettman's NHL... :flagcanada:

First off...The Shootout. Just get rid of this ridiculous gimmicky bit of supreme blasphemy. It's not hockey, it's a joke, there is nothing wrong with ties... :cursing:

Secondly, the almost has bad 4-on-4 overtime. Real hockey is played 5 aside, get rid of this stupid gimmick. :cursing:

Thirdly, the no-touch area for goalies (aka, the idiotically named 'no-fly zone') only a few goalies are capable puck handlers. Let them handle the damn puck... :cursing:

Fourth, and long over due, touch icing. Yes it's been around almost since the beginning but it injures players for no good reason. It is one of the few things that I will say the Europeans got right.

Fifth, composite sticks. Use wood sticks you lazy bastards, or don't bother to play... :cursing:

Another vote for publicly financed stadiums. It's allowed owners to play cities against each other, benefiting only people with money and most definitely not fans or residents of cities caught in the middle.

True but I don't think its had a negative effect with onfield action. Plus we have gotten some nicer venues out of it so it hasn't all been bad.

But yeah helps teams, helps players, helps corporations entertain their clients, and screws over everyone else, aka the fans/taxpayers.

So the Sonics should have traded up to get Jordan, and you think that they didn't was a bad idea?

Or did you mean the Blazers?

edit: also the Megatron end-zone catch rule where you have to clutch the ball for 15 minutes after scoring to ensure you had possession.

I hate that rule with every fiber of my being as a sports fan.

That is probably the most retarded rule in NFL and maybe even sports history, rediculous. I saw the Jermaine Gresham call during the Bungals and Ravens game, and he had the TD, and he had possesion, but even though he was out of bounds when he lost control, he still lost the TD.
