I present to you the tackiest baseball stadium

I think it looks cool. They can have 20k worth of people in there, and it won't look empty.

I think that's a big thing to keep in mind. Any oddities, tackiness, deficiencies, etc... are nothing when you consider they just moved out of a 70,000 seat football stadium anything was an improvement.

This park reminds me a lot of Nationals Park just even more sterile and roofed. It just seems bland. Not that a Camden Clone would have worked in Miami, but it just feels like it lacks much character except where it's blindingly tacky (like the outfield home run mess and the neon walls). It really does feel like one of the worst of the stadiums built since New Comiskey/Camden started the latest stadium bonanza. That said I'm not sure what else would have worked in South Florida.

Bet you wouldn't have thought Nats Park was bland if we had put up the giant baseball in left center like originally planned!

And as for Marlins Park, the name is a little dull (and for some reason it looks too fancy to be a "park". I think of classic ballparks when I hear park... it should be like, just spitballin here, Aquafina Coliseum) but other than that I think it looks great. Can't wait to go catch a game down there one day.

I don't know why anyone feels that the marlins new ball park is so tacky. It's nowhere near as bad as that trainyard/Costco warehouse store that is Minute Maid. It's the biggest aesthetic nightmare I've ever seen when it comes to sports venues, and I've seen some doozies. What makes it even worse is around sunset when the windows are closed the sun shines right through those big windows and gives the place some awful shadows and a really strange orange glow.

But like all of the other people who have posted on here, I still had a lot of fun there, so I'm not knocking the atmosphere, but it's definitely not pretty.

I have to totally disagree with you. (aside from the lighting issue which does happen for a few hours sometimes) but i think Minute Maid is one, if not the, nicest looking parks in the league. It just looks really classy imo and that honestly has nothing to do with the fact that im an astros fan.

This park is pretty nice. the only thing i don't like at all is the wall color, reallllllllyy bothersome. Looks like a mini golf course or something.

I'd like Minute Maid alot better if they didn't have Tal's Hill and the Crawford Street boxes. I can live with the train, but you gotta jack it over the tracks for a HR.

I think the walls will eventually be filled with ads. I think they got the seating and size of the stadium right. I like the overall feel of it. Like most others though, I think the home run display is ridiculous. As a Phillies fan, I am just happy I don't have to deal with hours long rain delays anymore when watching Phils/Marlins games. I think that as much as anything helped kill their fan base.

I'll reserve judgment until the Fall. At this time of the year any ballpark with ample sunshine and a playable surface is a terrific ballpark as far as I'm concerned.

The Chroma-Key green is a bit of a concern, though.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for new stadiums, but I think it turned out great. I like the left and center field view to the city. I also like that a lot of the outfield is open walking area. Besides from that monstrosity homerun thing, I really like it.

I've got an interesting thought. What do people consider the parks that are the opposite of tacky and/or bland (ie: the best parks in baseball). That maybe can inform everyone's opinion about why some consider Marlin's Park tacky and some don't.

I mean for me the top 5 would probably be in no particular order Fenway, Wrigley, Petco Park, Safeco Field (of the roofed types), and Dodger Stadium.

To most people, tacky = attention-grabbing gimicks, like the train, hill, flag pole, super short fences, warehouse-style glass, etc. in Houston, the bright green wall and home-run display in Miami, and (at least IMO) the giant mitt in San Francisco.

At least in Miami's and SF's cases those are add-on things that don't necessarily have to be permenant and don't really ruin the look and feel of the park, while in Houston's case, they were integrated into the very design. There are certainly other parks around the league with tacky elements to them, so we're not just picking on Houston - it just (in many people's opinions, including mine) happens to be the worst.

For me it's less the tacky (the monstrosity in CF is tacky but that can easily be removed once they come to their senses). It's the overall sterility of the place that gets me. I think it's the huge white pylons in left field and the even larger ones holding up the roof. Just something about it screams bland to me. Doesn't help I've never been a big dome or enclosed stadium fan (SAFECO being the lone exception due to the open concept "umbrella roof" they went with). Maybe it'll be better once they've got all the ads up and some more team stuff and play some ball there. Regardless it's a huge improvement over its predecessor which alone makes it a winner and while I may not like enclosed ballparks, it makes sense in South Florida given their storms and humid weather.

I think it's the lack of advertisements that make it seem bland. Something needs to be on the outfield walls. The huge white pylons don't come off as bland and sterile to me. White is probably a better choice than anything other color.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I find it all striking as well and it may very well be that we are so damned conditioned to see signs plastered on every single available surface that the lack of them is simply shocking. Just look at the hallways and outfield wall. Other than the electric signs, there is anything trying to sell me something.

I just kinda hope the outside is left to look smooth as an egg. But I imagine we'll be seeing banners and posters all over it within the next few weeks.

This ball park is probably in my top five parks to visit, and honestly, it's because of the home run celebrator. If that thing is removed, I'll take to the streets with guns and hammers.

For those of you caring, the others are PAC Bell or whatever phone company owns it now, Dodger Stadium, Wrigley, and Target Field.

I had to say that the park is amazing as it is modern and fits the archietecture of Miami as a trendy community. This park makes Tropicana Field look like a trash can with a top. I just wish the Rays will play part time with the Marlins so that the Rays play with a big crowd and a nice stadium to boot.

Tropicana didn't need any help to look like that. BTW- When the hell are the Rays getting a stadium to match the quality of the team on the field?

Compared to this piece of crap, Marlins Ballpark is already a classic stadium.
