Went to Lids Locker Room at Countryside Mall today. They only had the Authentics for $260. They also only had a few hats left (same for Hat Shack). The t-shirts were pretty cool, though. Might get one the next time I'm there.

http://www.lids.com/MLB/Tampa-Bay-Rays/20426657 Not to bring up a dusty topic here, but I was wondering if this hat on lids is correct (I don't see one on MLB even though they sell the jersey)? It looks as if the columbia blue is a whole two front panels (like the Orioles do) vs. what appears that it should be smaller (like in Joe Maddon's pic or based off the Padre hats).

The Rays are really milking this as you can buy fashion shirts in columbia, navy, or yellow.

I think I saw on UniWatch that those are the ones they are selling to the public. Don't know why they're different from the actual ones worn

Go A's!

Just bought it!

I just HAD to take my concept, and see how it would look on an actual picture of a player.

And if you put a number on the actual devil ray, that would look amazing.

Because the production costs are too high on the authentics.

You're right - the authentics had a cutaway Columbia blue panel, like the 1970s Padres uniforms they were apeing.

That cutaway has long plagued cap companies in making replicas of the Padres cap, so the replicas have the standard two front panels in light blue.

I know, it's Ebay where counterfeit rules and the picture doesn't always match the product, but they had to take it from somewhere unless it's just a bad fake.

Yeah, that's a fake

By Googling the model name provided on the listing, all it points to is the Ebay listing.

Definitely a fake...

Lids sells them. I might have misled you. Player shirts are in navy/yellow. The fashion clothes were in all three colors.

No, I wasn't debating the fake, etc., I was just pointing out the fact that on that particular hat, they used the correct "cut" of the front brim (even though I hope they aren't passing it off as the throwback with the current logo). I was just pointing out that some kid in Korea did that for $1.50, but New Era can't for $35?????

On a side note: According to Tampa's fake history, they were the Smokers, then the Tarpons, then the Rays in the 70's wearing blue/columbia/yellow, then the Devil Rays wearing black/rainbow, then the Devil Rays wearing black/purple, then the Devil Rays wearing green/black, and back to the Rays wearing columbia/blue/yellow again.

I wouldn't say it's a can't, it's a won't. New Era knows that these hats require different production methods/materials, and the demand for them isn't going to be enough to offset whatever new costs mass production would incur. It's not like New Era is selling a ton of the old Padres hats either.

I'm not excusing New Era. I think they should bite the bullet and produce the retail hat the way it was worn on the field. But I at least get their reasoning. It's lousy reasoning, but it is semi-defensible.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!

No it's not- Lids Brick and Mortar stores has the whole series of those caps on clearance- even the same style in hunter green with the rainbow ray on it.

I own a black and white marlins one.
