Uniform trends/quirks you never expected to miss, but you do.

So the other day I was at the Dodgers game and when Adrian Gonzalez came up to bat, they showed a highlight of him playing for the Padres, and he was in this uniform.

It had never occurred to me until just then how much I miss those Padres khaki road uniforms. Sure the script sucked, but the color was great. It represented the San Diego military scene really well, and was just different enough to be unique, but wasn't out there enough to look completely ridiculous IMO.

I don't know if it's because they are wearing such crap now that makes me miss it, but everything about their current color scheme is just so boring. At least the khaki made them stand out a bit.

Another thing I miss? Purple in baseball.

Sure, the Diamondbacks look just fine now. But they stood out so well in purple. The Rockies would be wise to play up purple as well.

So, anyone else? What all have you found yourself longing for that you'd have never expected?

Hi - long time reader, first time poster.

Haven't figured out how to put in pics yet but NJ Nets grey alternates. Liked but didn't love when they were around but as soon as they yanked them and replaced them with those god awful bright reds, I realized what we lost...

And I know a lot of people here despise the Mets blacks(jerseys), but I really miss them compared to the "new York" blues that just look too cluttered for my taste. The "Mets" blacks were simple and strong imo.

I never thought I'd miss this logo. The whole look was really kind of much, but it was most certainly unique and centered around kachina. It worked. It really did. The new design is about as tasteless porridge as it gets.

Wish I had a photo to post, but miss the 1977 Detroit Pistons uniform. It featured lightning bolts down the sides, and the wordmark had that look as well. May have been a one year experiment, and the team was bad, so that must have hastened the demise of the uniform.

I remember those well:

Team colors getting darker.

As an old stick in the mud, I miss almost none of these trends...but I am with you here. I like both of these better than the glory days inspired looks the teams now have. I dare say this Oilers jersey is one of my top 5 in NHL history.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

.....

I always liked those, but the problem is that they almost never used them. I swear the Padres wore their blue "alternate" jersey for 150 of 162 games. Seemed like it, anyway.

Powder blue road uniforms in baseball.

Agreed. Imagine if teams started wearing these (as either full-time or alternate road uniforms) and the Padres stuck with khaki--you'd have a little more color and variety in MLB without going overboard. I'd love to see the Marlins try light blue road uniforms.

I'll also add teal and purple. With the Jaguars (teal) and Suns (purple), longtime standard-bearers for their respective colors, (likely) pushing those aside for more common primary colors, I'm already missing them.

While I prefer the Diamondbacks in Brick/Black/Sand as opposed to Purple/Teal/Black/Copper (though I'd swap out Sand for Yellow), they could really stand out if they replaced Sand with either Teal, Purple, or Copper (especially teal).

Another one to a much lesser extent is the two-blue. While I'd prefer most teams in the NBA and NHL (at least as far as alternates) that have or still do wear the two-blue to use more unique color schemes (if they already haven't), others, such as the Winnipeg Jets, Utah Jazz, and maybe even Columbus Blue Jackets, could work well with that color scheme. The Jets look is growing on me and could become a modern classic, the current Jazz template could accomodate the two-blue well,* and the Blue Jackets' current alternate might work as a full-time uniform (if a white jersey is made) with a few tweaks.

*Not that I don't like their current color scheme less--though I'd probably swap out the navy for either indigo or purple and emphasize the Jazz as a (Purple or Indigo)/Green/Yellow team or Purple/Light Blue team--but I've done some photoshopping with some of the Jazz's past colors (two-blue and Purple/Copper/Black) on their current template, and was pleasantly surprised with how well it looked. I'll have to post those later.
