Why are the wearing black undershirts with the orange caps. Well black is part of their main scheme, and black tones down the brightness and ugliness of that uniform, as opposed to orange which would just make it obsessively stupid.

I really can't think of any instances where the cap color shouldn't match the undershirts and socks. This situation is no exception. For comparison:

I definitely agree that the undershirt should match the socks and cap color.

That's why it was really refreshing to finally see the Astros wearing orange socks to match their orange alternate caps this season. When they introduced the new uniforms for 2013, I was waiting to see those orange socks, but was disappointed to see the same navy socks with orange caps and undershirt.

Now that those socks have been corrected, maybe now they can fix their batting helmets to orange from navy for those games.

I'm at a point where I think bright and vibrant colors need to return to sports. It's getting ridiculous with how nobody is trying anymore and going to navy blue or black or whatever else. Nobody wants to be unique anymore and I'm tired of it.

Even though, I personally like the Red Sox in navy undershirts better, I must say, even their red undersleeves and navy blue cap still looks pretty darn good.

I feel that this should be the Astros' primary home uniform. They should be the MLB team that undeniably owns orange.*

*Of course, I'd try to work in some rainbow (they need a subdued rainbow pattern on there somewhere) and find a more futuristic font (also needed for some flare). As for Miami, San Francisco, and Baltimore, the Marlins should be the modern, almost Oregon-esque team whose thing it is to mix-and-match; the Giants should return to being the black-then-orange team, while, OK, the Orioles can be the orange-then-black team. So, all right, the Astros and Orioles can own orange.

Agreed. The only exception--and this is because their other colors are light pastel colors--should be Miami. Doesn't mean that they can't have a little more fun with their uniforms.

I like the Astros' blue hats for the most part (can we un-bevel the orange star already?), but they should be relegated to road- or alternate-only status. The general "lighter color at home, darker color on the road" applies to them.

Why should I be a lemming and agree with people if I don't agree with what they say. If everyone agreed with everyone, it'd be boring. I'm sorry, I disagree with orange undershirts, whether you like it or not. It's just too bright of a color to work.

Being a part of these boards since these uniforms were unveiled, one of the primary non-Maroon-5-related complaints about the set is that after the hated predominantly black/silver set, they advertised that they were going to display a variety of bright colors in homage to their home of Miami, but then abandoned every uniform and hat that wasn't black or white. It's strange seeing one swimming so strongly against the stream. XD

They've barely got any color on that uniform to tone down. There's tiny drop shadows, barely visible to most people's eyes. When the Dolphins had black shadows on their good uniform, it didn't detract, because it's such a small matter. As it is now, they've got almost no color. Some manner of vibrancy on the hat or shirt would be welcome on a uniform as drab as the team's position in the standings.

I agree with all this. The Astros' font doesn't even need to be super-futuristic so much as just modern. Here's an Astros script I made a few years ago with Space Age-era comic book covers sort of in mind:

I agree, these should have been the primary home uniforms, but the navy with orange trim is still classy. Navy Astros = 1960s, Orange Astros = 1970s. Of course I'm partial, but I believe this team should be the one that everyone associates with orange in baseball.
