I hate when my team wins and staves off elimination with our best pitcher pitching in the next game still giving us an opportunity to win the series! Damn them!

/dbadefense

So you honesty have no fear of Wainwright pitching a Game 7 at Busch. None. If you don't, then you're a hell of a lot more optimistic than I am.

I would have given more plight of an actual comeback if Clayton was given the Game 7 assignment instead of Friday's. It would have been kind of like a boxing card; the undercard (Game 6) would be Ryu vs. Wakka while the main event (Game 7) would be Kershaw vs. Wainwright.

Instead, I don't see Wainwright losing another game. Not in a Game 7. Not at home at Busch. Not even with Ryu opposing him. I just don't see any plausibility in this.

Hence, why I'm angry at the fact that after five games, after out-hitting St. Louis in four of the games and holding the Cardinals to a sub .200 batting percentage, the Dodgers could only muster two wins, with two games left in Missouri.

So are you trying to say that you'd rather have lost today in Game 5, rather than having the opportunity at all to play in Game 6? And are you saying you'd rather lose Game 6 just because you'd have to go up against Wainwright in Game 7?

No, I'm just saying that I tend to look, after five games, who the better team is, and who the better team should have been.

For all the data and statistics the Dodgers have put out in the NLCS, they only have two games to show for it. Yes, I know how much of a powerful asset Kershaw and Ryu are, but it's friggin' St. Louis. If this were a game in May or June against the Marlins, they can get away with cheapening their chances at RISP and crappy managing, but against this team, the margin of error is this close to zero.

I'll watch, I'll root, and hopefully, the team continues their offensive breakthrough in Game 6 (and hopefully Game 7), but then again, I'm a glass half-empty person. The best shots of the Dodgers winning this series would have been either in five or six games. But the fact that they have to go through Wainwright in Game 7 at his home makes me just irk, considering how damn close those first two games were. The pitcher best equipped to match Wainwright in a Game 7 would have been Kershaw, but the current rotation has me less upbeat. That's just me.

Still though, it's baseball; any kind of s#it can happen.

It's just a game, that we play and watch for fun. Be happy that you get to watch your team play another game, with the possibility of playing another. Don't act like it's the end of the war that your about to lose, because it's not. If you don't enjoy the ride, and all you care about is the result, you're not going to have any fun.

But isn't "having fun" the contrary of someone's favorite teams when they're in the postseason? It's only considered "fun" for fans of other teams, or general fans of that sport (i.e. fans of teams not involved in such particular series). If someone's team is battling through the playoffs, especially into the championship rounds, it seems like unmitigated torture for every bounce, every call, every move made. Rooting for your team in this particular case can't be enjoyed because it could be that moment when disaster happens, in which for some people they'd remember it more vigorously than if the team does something great.

Maybe in retrospect, when the off-season happens or when a team is eliminated, do people look back on their teams and appreciate the playoff run they had, even if it ended badly. But in the moment, I wouldn't consider rooting for a team "fun" as much more as "torturous" because of the fear of failure.

I'm pretty sure other people feel the same way.

I sort of understand where you're coming from, but it's definitely not that bad. Watching the Giants playoff run in 2010 was so much "torture" that the word torture was actually the catchphrase for that squad, but it was still fun as hell. It would've massively sucked to see them lose, but in the grand scheme of things, it's just nice to see your team play in another game.

And all the cool stuff that comes with winning the championship (the celebration, the reaction in the city, the parade, getting to see those shiny new rings, all the cool new merchandise, all the attention, ect) makes up for how stressful it was.

I rather see them go to the World Series then see the Best Fans in Baseball™ pat themselves on the back and figuratively blow their team again.

This year's World Series is looking like its going to be either the 1968 & 2006 Rematch or the 1946,1967 & 2004 Rematch...

For that matter, throw 1934 into the mix when it comes to Cardinals/Tigers.

I was looking for recent history :D but thanks!

Wow. This is pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. I'm stunned Kershaw pitched that bad. This is like a complete 180 of game 7 of the NLCS last year.

Am I experiencing déjà vu, or are these Dodgers folding just like the 2008 Lakers did? Let's see the circumstances:

1. In Games 1 and 2, the Celtics and Cardinals won very hard-fought and clutch games at home. Each game had an inflection point, which eventually dictated the series (Pierce's wheelchair incident, Hanley's injury/Gonzalez being pulled).

2. In Games 3, 4 and 5, the corresponding Los Angeles team won 3 and 5, but lost a heartbreaking and frustrating 4. Also, in Game 5, that Los Angeles team hung on for dear life to force Game 6.

3. In Game 6, flat-out rapeage and humiliation by the opposing team at home; by the Celtics in 2008 and by the Cardinals tonight.

Let this also serve as the probable proof as to why Detroit is :censored: ed, too.

Hell, look at some parallels here. Prospective 2013 NL Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw got wrecked tonight. Prospective 2013 AL Cy Young winner Max Scherzer goes tomorrow night for Detroit in the same situation - down 3-2 on the road for Game 6.

Max Scherzer was in the same spot in 2011 against Texas. That didn't go so well. Godspeed, two-color eyes.
