Tampa Bay Buccaneers Getting New Logo, Helmet & Uniforms

Pewter worked because it was never used on the uniforms. It never seemed overbearing. Like the Cowboys' silver pants and helmet or the 49ers gold pants and helmet.

The new pewter looks awful anyway. The darkened tone and matte texture make it look more like a dark brown then actual pewter. Just an ugly, ugly change.

I'm surprised by how many people seem to be saying it's alright bar the numbers; even ignoring them, let's review the flaws here:

- Slight chrome effect on the helmet means that it looks a completely different shade to the pewter anywhere else on the uniform

- Massively oversized helmet logo ends up getting obscured by facemask and chinstrap clips

- Fully shiny facemask clashes with the helmet shell

- Pewter helmets, yokes and pants is TOO MUCH. They're supposed to be red or white, yet the overwhelming color is just pewter

- Differing logos on each sleeve, pick the ship or the 'Bucs' script, don't have one of each

- Tiny orange strip separating the yokes from the body of the uniform looks really awkward, also highly reminiscent of those inserts Nike is coming up with excuses to use for every single college uniform it unveils this year

- The ongoing death of traditional pants striping.

Would normal numbers be an improvement on what we have, oh dear god yes, even then though these are still very, very high up in the list of worst NFL uniforms ever made.

Ever since the Bucs changed uniforms in 1997 , one of their nicknames have always been the Pewter pirates so I see no problem with more pewter. Its a unique color that only the Bucs own and makes them stand out since a lot of NFL teams have red uniforms anyway.
Yeah that's be great if they actually used the old pewter.

They're basically the s**t stain pirates at this point.

Its just pictures , it actually looks pewter on TV or in person. Just like the Rays dark Blue looks purple in pictures.

No it doesn't, the main problem is having a shiny metallic pewter helmet directly against the matte dark pewter yoke just shows the difference even more, its nothing like the reebok shimmer fabric pewter pants that looked nearly identical to the helmets

I gave my opinions a few pages ago, but watching in practice (practice jerseys and new white pants), they are actually tolerable because of the lack of yoke and no "toffee" pants mismatching the helmet

You know, I tried watching a little bit of that training camp this morning and...I can't even do it. Them numbers, though.

I really should have compared the Pantone Textile colors:

Old (1997-2013) * :

New (2014-present):

PTX_19-0000_TCX_SRGB.png

* Technically, Reebok changed this to a custom fabric color from 2008-2013. Basic color didn't change much.

Oh - and Nike DID use their own proprietary color - 2CZ "Toffee" from 2012-2013. The new color is 2DV "Deep Pewter".

I bought a jersey and it is Pewter. The matte and glossy pewter are really not a big deal. A glossy Jersey would look weird.

You are aware what boards you're on right? :therock:

EDIT - And a 'glossy jersey' is not something anyone is calling for. The two easy ways to remove the issue of having two separate finishes of the same color butting up against each other are either take away or the yokes or lose the overly shiny effect on the helmet.

I can deal with the gigantic logo and chrome facemask. But I hate the weird pointless black spray paint streaks.

These streaks were actually hard to notice fully unless you got a top view of the helmet. If I didn't know they were there, I'd just think they were shadowing from the helmet.

Soooo... that's NOT just shadowing from the helmet?

TampaBayBuccaneers_FRC_Pewter01a_2013_SC to TampaBayBuccaneers_FRC_Gray01a_9999_SCC_

...however, for the helmets, they now use this:

I recall in 1997 when the uniforms were unveiled, the Pewter was represented in other media as more of a Silver than anything, for example in Madden '98 at the time, they had it as Silver and I don't know why. I always thought that was really strange when I was a kid. I didn't realize it was Pewter until they debuted the Pewter pants.

The new logo is horrid and blowing it up to that size only emphasis how bad it is.

Whenever I get that "it's not THAT bad" feeling, I go and compare everything side-by-side for a reminder of why it sucks...

The silver outline on top of the black outline is ridiculous. And I can't get over the entire helmet being draped in that flag. I would have settled on the updated skull and swords on the old flag...but what do I know?
