Tampa Bay Buccaneers Getting New Logo, Helmet & Uniforms

I've repeatedly said that the new Pewter is actually darker than the old; the finish and lighting is affecting the look.

Sounds like it's going to be really tough to match the helmet to any other material. I'm imagining that they're going to have a pewter alt now since it looks kinda close to the other dark-gray color that Nike likes to use, but unless they're doing something different with TBs jerseys / pants than they've done with other teams, I just don't see how any other material is going to catch light the same way that helmet does, and since the lighting seems to be having so much of an effect, there could be some major clashing issues even if they don't go with a pewter jersey and just keep the pewter pants.

I would agree...

The 2014-present "Metallic Pewter" shown above is only to be used for the helmets; the current one on the bottom is what they will be attempting to match.

Wow that's dark. In some lighting I could see that looking black - at least flat versions of it.

I'm going to guess home jerseys will be red with chrome numbers (a la the Pro Bowl Unis) away jerseys white with red numbers, and a pewter alternate with red numbers.

I'm guessing there will be a silver, a pewter, and a white in pants. The Silver and Pewter pants both being made of a new shiny material a la Detroit's shiny black practice pants.

You know they're gonna do something dumb like have that super shiny pewter and then mismatch it with flat matte pewter pants.

You mean like Ohio State's mismatched metallic silver helmets with flat, light grey pants?

Why are people always going on about Florida needing bright colors? Are there other states that have color schemes associated with them?

Trust me, coming from a resident of the Tampa Bay area, this is not the stereotypical Florida. When I think of bright colors, I think places like South Florida and maybe Orlando to a point. Dont get me wrong, Clearwater & Pinellas County have the beaches, but a good majority of the area is more of that "natural" Florida. Hell, where I live just north of Tarpon Springs in Pasco County, our beach is not what you think of when you think Florida.

The brighter colors may have worked in the past, but lets leave them in history and own the red and pewter.

Grew up in St. Pete, and just moved back here. Very true assessment - Tampa Bay isn't the neon colors of South Beach, nor the artificial shininess of Orlando. At the heart of Tampa is Ybor City, which looks a little like an old Cuban-influenced New Orleans (which, incidentally, goes very well with the almost decorative depiction of the bow waves in the ship logo).

You know, I could actually see the new pewter being easier to match than the last version was. Sure, they matched the pants pretty decently, but fan merchandise with that color was downright atrocious, and it always seemed to be a different shade. I've looked for a matching color of paint for years, and it always turned out really muddy and gross looking. The darker color may make it easier to match because it's pretty close to the anthracite color Nike uses so much. It'll also help sales of fan gear because dark grey is MUCH more attractive of a look on fan gear than that nasty brownish tan that it always ended up being.

True but this past season i noticed for the first time pewter on most merchandise looked vastly improved, more pewter and less brown, 49er looking.

Anybody notice how the Skull's teeth mirrors the stitches on the football right below it?

Nice catch. Hadn't noticed that.

However, I can't un-see the cartoon face profile in the left side of the flag.

The teeth sort of mirror the stitches. It's not a 100% match. But I do like the different shaped teeth in the lower jaw - they're not all perfectly square.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I love it!!
I'm not sure I have any complaints at the time being.

I'll be waiting to produce a complete review until I see the uniforms (and the helmet in action).

I just hope the primary uniforms display the colors in an appropriate fashion (primary colors most prominent). I've always thought they could utilize their color scheme more effectively.

Some guesses and some hopes for the new Buc togs...

Red jerseys with white numbers trimmed in pewter and black. White jerseys with pewter numbers trimmed in red and black. Pewter alternate with white number trimmed in red and black.

3 pant options...pewter, white and red. Very few teams in the NFL with red pants, so that would make sense to me. Be nice if the pewter and red pants were solid color, much like the Rams old gold pants were. The white pants would have a solid pewter stripe down the side.

2 sock options...black (which would be no change) and pewter (which would be unique to any team in the league). The black socks would be worn with the pewter and red pants. The pewter sock would be worn with the white pants.

Pretty conservative jerseys and uniforms, much like the set they are replacing. Maybe a new number font, but nothing too flashy or "out there". Overall just a brighter red and more uniform pewter across the board. And hopefully the Bucs start wearing the dark jerseys more at home (its just been the last 4 home games of the year forever) so they can do more mixing and matching. If they add these combos, you gotta wear the dark jerseys more. Hopefully.

I think pewter will be more prominent then before (being used as the number color on the white jersey). And hopefully an upgrade to an already top notch uniform.

I remember when the new Vikings logo debuted last season, one of the main reasons for the change was to make it easier to reproduce. Thicker strokes, slightly less detail, etc. My thinking is that might be the same logic being applied here.

As well as the fact that most newer logos today are flatter and designed to be viewed on smaller devices, like smartphones.

why not join in the guessing game?

my guesses/hopes:

red jersey: white numbers. outlined in orange and black.

white jersey: red numbers, outlined in orange and black.

white and pewter pants, with some kind of red/orange/black stripes on them.

red socks across the board....

orange alternate jersey. not pewter.

i also predict the pewter pants will look awfully dark and flat, and they'll hardly ever wear them.
