Unocal
Sad situation all around. Two wrongs didn't make a right here- Ward never should have gotten out of the car, Stewart shouldn't have gotten so close to him.On a lesser scale related to this situation, what happens with the Mobil car potentially tomorrow? Does NASCAR park the car or does Stewart-Haas/NASCAR find a replacement car?

raysox
I've heard a lot of reports, but in the video the guy walked into the damn middle of the track and almost got hit by the guy in front of Stewart. I feel upset about the news but he walked near thousand something pound vehicles going 60 mph. I feel like it wasn't intentional just because Tony wouldn't have a no name guy on a dirt track circuit get under his skin for something that looked like a racing incident. @MichaelDanger19 | Dribbble

Unocal
I hope cooler heads prevail and Stewart doesn't race. We've seen drivers parked for races (Kevin Harvick 2002, Kurt Busch at the end of 2005) and this is far more egregious than their misdoings
rams80
In other news, Tony Stewart is extremely delusional. Well he may be able to drive tomorrow. After that probably not, but that's because Bass Pro and Mobil need at least one business day to decide to pull his sponsorship. TheFallenHaveRisen
Why on Earth was Tony Stewart racing out on some random dirt track in New York anyway? That's like if Aaron Rodgers decided he wanted to try his hand at Pop Warner football. That's Tony's thing, in his free time he goes out and races. It's more akin to LeBron going around to random YMCA's and joining pickup games whenever he doesn't have a game Another twitter account that's following the story closelyhttps://twitter.com/DaleEarnhardSrNothing like using a dead person's name to assist one's journalistic/social media career.Legitimate press and participants were present. Cujo
It looks as if Stewart steers his car into the other racer -- not that the racer should've been making a scene in the middle of a racetrack -- but he shouldn't have lost his life over it either. Basically, this looks really, REALLY bad for Tony Stewart.
crashcarson15
Went ahead and split the original discussion from the NASCAR thread to here. Please DO NOT post video of the incident on this forum. NJTank
Last year Tony Stewart was racing in these sprint cars and destroyed his leg in Iowa now this. I know he likes racing but these races have now destroyed his career and reputation. This is not good and and could be a big black eye for NASCAR if they allow him in the race at the Glen. Damn he was my favorite driver too. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com

That's like if Aaron Rodgers decided he wanted to try his hand at Pop Warner football. Not really. Plenty of racers do it.It's more akin to NBA players showing up at Rucker Park or in Pro-Am leagues during the summer.This. A lot of drivers actually prefer open wheel racing and/or dirt tracks, but race in NASCAR because that's where the money is nowadays.
FiddySicks
The guy approached a fast moving race car on a slippery dirt track and got struck. What an incredibly reckless thing to do, regardless of what Tony Stewart's reaction was. Horrible thing to have happen, but, Darwinism. Rockstar Matt
The driver was an idiot for getting out and attempting to confront Stewart while he was still driving. That crash looked like a racing crash with no malicious intent. For whatever reason that irritated that driver to the point he wanted to let Stewart know about it, while still on the track. I wanna say that I've never liked Tony Stewart and he's known for a quick temper, but running over and killing another driver for simply confronting him doesn't make sense. Not even for Stewart. I think it's more likely he was trying to intimidate/scare the driver and accidentally hit him. Unless if Stewart just saw red and lost control of his mind for a second, I don't see anything malicious here. Stewart should still be punished though. Manslaughter at least. His actions still killed another man and he needs to be held responsible. Cowboys - Lakers - LAFC - USMNT - LA Rams - LA Kings - NUFC
TheFallenHaveRisen
I saw this posted on another forum, but look at what a sprint car cockpit looks likeNow, add in that this was at night, with the victim being in all black. Not to mention that Stewart had a HANS on, which restricts neck movement, so trying to see someone wearing all black at night while your driving at ~45 MPH with only your peripheral vision, there's no doubt in my mind that this was an unfortunate accident
wonderbread
That looked like an accident, just the fact that he hit him with the rear tire and not the front says it for me. Also that driver was an absolute idiot to be running around on a dirt track like that, he could have been hit by any one of those drivers, the fast Stewart was the unlucky individual just brought more attention to it. He cooperated completely with officials about the incident and should be allowed to race. And the only thing he needs to do is give the friends and family of the driver an apology even though it wasn't his fault.
Cosmic
This reminds me of an episode of House of Cards that I just watched: some teen died while texting about how a peach water tower looked like genitalia. The episode was about dealing with the political fallout: there should have been guard rails, it shouldn't be lit up at night, there should be billboards telling you not to text and drive, etc. but the one thing nobody could say was it was the dead girl's fault. I *think* this crash was an accident, but whatever Tony Stewart was thinking, the dead guy ultimately caused his own death by walking around the middle of the track like an idiot. Live SportsCenter covering it right now, while NASCAR Raceday will have more coverage at 11 am on Fox Sports 2.FAKE EDIT: Holy crap, they just aired the full video with Ward being hit. @loganaweaver - Twitter / @loganaweaver - Instagram / Nike Vapor Untouchable Football Template / Logan's Logos
