Idk about panic mode. After Silfverberg’s injury last night, the Ducks are without 6 of their top 9 forwards. You kind of have to do something or accept the eventual doom.

I like the trade.

Vatanen hasn’t been too-notch this season since coming back from injury (even when he is he’s a No. 3 st best). He’s had some real loose play in his own zone. His offensive production has dipped (not good for a “power play specialist). Idk, he’s this generation’s Lubomir Visnovsky and of the defensemen that could be moved (god damn Bieksa and his stupid contract/NMC) he always was the guy that could be moved (and maybe should have when this deal was initially proposed around the expansion draft).

Adam Henirque brings something, anything to a forward corps in desperate need of some extra skill. The Ducks have been able to survive almost inexplicably with “top” center Derek Grant (all of 0 goals, 7 assists in 86 NHL games over 6 seasons with 4 teams before coming to the Ducks). Henrique helps in a big way now, and becomes quite the luxury when the Ducks get back to full strength (hey, it could happen).

Blandisi is nice to have too. This will let the Ducks either stop playing Korbinian Holzer at 4th line forward or send skating excrement Mike Liambas back to the minors for eternity.

Vatanen should have been traded before the beginning of last season. I'm surprised it took this long, but he never really fit in to Randypuck. His apparent decline this past year was probably because of that, but at least the Ducks could still get a decent return.

16 hours ago, the admiral said:

Just finished listening to the Jets lose in overtime to the Avs and, well, sometimes I forget just how good Chicago has it with John Wiedeman on Blackhawks radio. The Jets lost in sudden death to a team in the division and from the goal call I had to double-check to make sure I didn't put on the Avs' broadcast. Is this some kind of weird Canadian democratic spirit, to be as excited for a goal against as a goal for? It's a problem I never have with John and Troy, because while they're not pure homers, goals against are called with the appropriate dread or resignation. I dunno, just bugs me. No need to call it down the middle, anyone who knows would expect a Winnipeg crew to deliver every game with equal measures of beaming pride and atomic self-loathing.

I'm not 100% sure that the current Jets radio crew is the same as a couple of years ago, however, the Jets radio play-by-play is garbage. You have to really paint the picture of the play when you're on the radio, and the Jets don't do that. The game I listened to was a 5-1 preseason win for the Wild over the Jets. The only way I knew the Wild scored was when the horn went off in the background. It was mostly "HFiarhfj iarhfi aorgihOH  FHIDHFIEHFIHIHAEIFH AEHR *HORN* AND THEY SCORE! Well that makes it 5-1..." there was no breakdown of the play, and I could not see the game in my minds eye.

Bob Kurtz and Tom Reid for the Wild are a fantastic duo, and Kurtz really describes the play very nicely. I might be a little biased, but they might just be the best in the biz...

"And those who know Your Name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You." Psalms 9:10

The Sabres waived Matt Moulson and sent him to the minors... but to the Kings' Ontario Reign, not their own Rochester Amerks. He wasn't traded; he was just assigned to a different team's affiliate. That's a real "please take your money and get the hell out of here" move.

Ah, the universal laments of the regular-season hockey fan: POWER PLAY CAN'T SCORE, COACH WON'T LET THE KIDS PLAY, QUIT CHANGING THE LINES. Finding out it's not just us was like finding out there were other Bozos.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

So it's only been a week, but with Adam Henrique getting his first official Ducks goal tonight, let's have a quick look at that Vatanen/Henrique trade:

ANA F Adam Henrique: 4 games, 5 points (2G, 3A), 10 shots, + 2, 19:52 Avg TOI

NJD D Sami Vatanen: 3 games, 0 points (0G, 0A), 2 shots, -1, 21:44 Avg TOI

Early returns? Good.
