Women's Final Four Court Design

Just caught this image of the court for the 2008 Women's Final Four at the St. Pete Times Forum. WOW... That's all I can say. Creative, absolutely. But still. WOW. I'm interested in seeing the reaction to this.

If you remember, last year in Cleveland, they had the the electric guitar stained in the floor.

I think it's awesome. It brings me back a more fun time in the NBA, with the huge, cartoony rocket on the floor in Houston.

Wow, I also think it's great. At first glance I thought it was supposed to be a peach, but that wouldn't make sense since the game isn't in GA.

The guitar is a little much, mostly because of the gray paint.

I thought it was a peach too, do you know what it is supposed to be? I really like the court too, the silver out of bounds really looks nice.

Maybe not a peach, but an orange since they're in Florida.

It is an orange, similar to the official logo:

That logo has one of the worst color schemes I can ever recall... terrible colors, creative court...

High Quality Entertainment for the masses.

The only reason I don't like the design is because the leaves kind of blend in with the boundary lines around it. I mean, you can still see them for the most part except for the part of the three-point line that's inside the leaf. If I were an official, I don't know if I'd like a design element that might cause difficulty in seeing lines.

It seems like the leaf on the left side of the court is less of a problem than the one on the right. It seems as if that leaf has a "shadow" which blends in with the three-point line and causes it to get lost.

Qualifier: I'm watching the game on a 19-inch standard def set. It may not be as much as a problem in person.

I completely agree. I could not tell that it was an orange at all. The endline and sideline designs should not blend onto the regulation playing surface.

I thought the idea for this court is awesome. As for the fun NBA courts, those were great too except for the period where the Hornets had that honeycomb design inside the key. That for me was a little much.

After watching Tennessee beat LSU tonight (WHEW!!) I have to say that although the idea is novel, it's still terrible. It made watching the game even more frustrating than usual for a women's game and it really did make the boundary lines impossible to see.

I'm surprised people like this. However, just now (from the overhead view in the first pic) did I realize that it was supposed to be an orange. At first I thought it was a jungle theme or something. I figured it was just stained inside the arc like every modern court, and it had a giant leaf or something.

So it's creative, but functionally, the orange looks horrible on camera and the green overlapping the sideline is uncalled for. Other than that... well, again, it's creative.
