Oh for :censored: s sake, they're like 4 games out of the Wild Card logjam and 6 games out of the division lead. They could still make the postseason this year. There's no karmic or spiritual whammy lingering in the Reds organization from the 2012 chokejob. At least nothing that wasn't addressed by firing Dusty Baker.

Every team that is able to make it to the post season should be happy, even if they get eliminated there is nothing heart breaking about it, unless it's the World Series and you were expected to win it all.

just happy 2 b there

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

It may be "too early' as people say here, but it looks like it's going to be a Tigers-A's ALCS unless the Angels, Mariners, Red Sox, Rays, or Yankees (but most likely Angels) can spoil the party.

Or the Orioles...who are leading the AL east.

Brian Sabean logic: Fix a position collectively batting sub-Mendoza by adding a player batting sub-Mendoza. Then, trade for a pitcher with a 1-9 record and near a 5.00 ERA because HE'S BUDDIES WITH THE MANAGER!!!!!!

I wonder which manager will be fired this year

Gardenhire must be on his way out by now, right?
Wouldn't be surprised if John Farrell got the boot as well.
One year removed from a World Series championship. Are you serious?

Remember, there were fans complaining about him the day after the World Series.

I feel so conflicted. Yes, I'm happy to see the Mariners competing for once (1.5 games out of the Wild Card), but the offense... Ugh. What a perfect stretch for the anemic offense to go :censored: up.. and no, Morales isn't the answer. Yes, he did well last season, but there's no way to expect that would happen again.

It's time for Seattle to get off it's collective rear end and make a deal for a batter that can produce, or else the worthless GM will be given the heave-ho.

I've accepted that Sabean will be resigning/fired after the season ends. I even have an idea of how he will depart:

Either because he's being chased by security, or secure in his resignation.

Sabean being fired would be very shocking, but not surprising. 3 National League pennants, (2002, 2010, 2012), 2 World Titles. But in today's sports, how many titles doesn't matter. It's what have you done for me lately.

Crownking30, there's a history of some not-so-hot dealing with Saebs. The Wheeler-for-Beltran deal in 2011, giving up Joe Nathan and Francisco Liriano for Aj Pierzynski in 2005, the 7 years/$156 million deal for Barry Zito, and a general short-shortsightedness when it comes to contracts/trade decisions. You may throw in accolades for the championship teams he's built, but don't pretend he's had a flawless history and only left due to one bad season. Just a clarification.

The Giants would be INSANE to fire Sabean. He grasps at straws at times, sure. This season is no exception. But he also built two World Series winning teams in the last four seasons. The first two World Series wins in San Francisco Giants history, at that.

Sabean bringing in Peavy was an absolute head-scratcher, absolutely. But this isn't Ruben f*****g Amaro were talking about here. Let's reel back those Yankees-like expectations for a minute, ok?

Yeah, I got carried away and put too much weight on recent deals. He's had too much good history with the team to get fired (building two championship teams), and I don't think he's done enough to get fired. Every general manager makes mistakes, and he's made a few over the near two decades he's been the GM. I'm happy with what he's done, and sometimes, you just have to experiment (besides, nothing was given up for Uggla and Hembree/Escobar would probably have been called up by now if the Giants were satisfied with their progress).

The problem is the Giants don't plan ahead and acquire depth players, so when injuries happen they're left scrambling. They had no answer in CF when Pagan went down last year. This year? Pagan goes down again, and there's still no backup who can play everyday. The team hasn't had a second baseman all year. You're supposed to be able to fill those holes with AA/AAA players, but they all get traded away for more veteran stopgaps who rarely work out. The full rebuild will come eventually, and it won't be pretty.

They haven't done well at all since the injuries. Their good record now is mostly because of their strong start.

A part of that good start was of them beating the Dodgers often in April, and that was when LA was still experimenting with five outfielders for three open spots. Now the Dodgers are gelling while San Francisco has caught the injury bug.

It's World Series or bust for the Cardinals. That October 30, 2013 day, when the Red Sox won the World Series title, will only be more motivation for Michael Wacha (when he returns from injury) to get in the playoffs and try to win it all-this time. We'll see.
