Why not?

Eastern Conference

#8 Canadians vs. #1 Capitals: Boy, I kinda feel bad for Montreal because they are running into a Red covered buzzsaw in Washington. The Caps played well all season long and despite the kiss of death that is the President's Trophy, the Capitals are going on with realitive ease.

Pick: Caps in 4

#7 Flyers vs. #2 Devils: Philly is a tough and battle tested team, and you have to think that this mentality will give the Flyers a game or two, but it always comes down to goalies this time of the year and the Devils have one of the best currently playing in Brodeur. That alone gives New Jersey the edge.

Pick: Devils in 5

#6 Bruins vs. #3 Sabres: Buffalo has shocked a lot of people by not only getting back, but winning the Northeast Division... Which leaves them prime for an upset. I just don't buy the Sabres as the 3rd seed when there are teams in the conference and even in their own division like Boston that are better on paper. But, you know, they don't play these games on paper.

Pick: Bruins in 7

#5 Senators vs. #4 Penguins: You know the Penguins will go all out to not only defend their championship, but to make sure they can get a crack at the Capitals in the conference semis. I just don't think Ottawa has the firepower to stand up to what the Penguins bring to the ice.

Pick: Penguins in 5

Western Conference

#8 Avalanche vs. #1 Sharks: Yes, everyone and their freaking mother knows about San Jose's inability to win in the postseason. The Sharks are pretty much the NHL's version of Charlie Brown... Whenever they get close to kicking that football, someone else yanks it away from them and watches as they go 'AUUGGH!' and land hard on their back. But, you know what? Maybe, just maybe someone up there takes pity on the Sharks and maybe let them win. That road begins by rolling all over the Avs.

Pick: Sharks in 4

#7 Predators vs. #2 Blackhawks: From what I understand, it seems hockey is Nashville is down... really down. Not like 'down in the gutter face first and ass up' kind of down, it's pretty much that no one cares. Maybe an upset of the young and talented Blackhawks would help that case... Too bad that ain't happening.

Pick: Blackhawks in 4

#6 Kings vs. #3 Canucks: Another series where I think goalies are going to be key towards who wins. In this case, Vancouver has the second best goalie in the game in Luongo. That is just enough for the Canucks to move on against a surprising Kings team.

Pick: Canucks in 5

#5 Red Wings vs. #4 Coyotes: Boy, whoever thought Phoenix would be in the playoffs is probably on Cloud Nine right now laughing at all us and giving us the bird just for the hell of it. Now that I have that out of my system, let me just that this will be the upset out West. Phoenix is happy to be here while Detroit... Well, everyone knows what the Red Wings can do when April appears.

Pick: Red Wings in 6

Capitals over Canadiens.

Devils over Flyer, but it will be tough.

Sabres over Bruins, also another tough one.

Senators over Penguins, a series I don't give two sh**s about.

Sharks over Avalanche.

Blackhawks over Predators.

Kings over Canucks, maybe the biggest upset of the playoffs.

Redwings over Coyotes, I don't want to see the Coyotes lose, but it's going to happen.

Man, nobody thinks the Coyotes are moving into the Semifinals?

Replace "semifinals" with "new arena in Winnipeg" or"new arena in Hamilton" and then yeah, everyone thinks they're moving into the semifinals.

Can we have a no-sarcasm zone?

The Phoenix-Detroit matchup reminds me of the Columbus-Detroit matchup from last year. One team finally puts together a good year and their reward is playing the Detroit Red Wings in the first round. The pairing that I'm most excited to watch is the Canucks-Kings battle. That'll be a good one.

Now onto my predictions which are sure to be wrong.

East

1 Washington Capitals > 8 Montreal Canadiens in 5

4 Pittsburgh Penguins > 5 Ottawa Senators in 6

3 Buffalo Sabres < 6 Boston Bruins in 7

2 New Jersey Devils < 7 Philadelphia Flyers in 7

1 Washington Capitals > 7 Philadelphia Flyers in 5

4 Pittsburgh Penguins > 6 Boston Bruins in 6

1 Washington Capitals > 4 Pittsburgh Penguins in 7

Western Conference Quarterfinals.

1 San Jose Sharks > 8 Colorado Avalanche in 6

4 Phoenix Coyotes < 5 Detroit Red Wings in 5

3 Vancouver Canucks >. 6 Los Angeles Kings in 7

2 Chicago Blackhawks > 7 Nashville Predators in 6

1 San Jose Sharks < 5 Detroit Red Wings in 6

2 chicago Blackhawks > 3 Vancouver Canucks

2 Chicago Blackhawks > 5 Detroit Red Wings in 6

Finals

Washington Capitals > Chicago Blackhawks in 7

Eastern Conference

#1 Washington over #8 Montreal in 4 - Montreal on a bad slide entering the playoffs cost them a matchup against the Sabres now they have to deal with the toughest team in the East.

#4 Pittsburgh over #5 Ottawa in 6 - Could be the most entertaining of the Eastern first round series' but the loss of Kovalev and Kuba will hurt the Sens.

#3 Buffalo over #6 Boston in 5 - Boston the Calgary of the East will not be able to put the puck past Ryan Miller as their inability to score goals will haunt them.

#2 New Jersey over #7 Philadelphia in 7 - Atlantic rivals could give the East it's best series but in the end Brodeur will get the better of Boucher.

Western Conference

#1 San Jose over #8 Colorado in 5 - San Jose is lucky they get Colorado one of the luckiest teams coming in relying on Chris Anderson most of the season. Getting out shot a ton won't help the Avs in the playoffs.

#5 Detroit over #4 Phoenix in 7 - If Ilya Bryzgalov plays the best hockey of his career like he has done all season it will give the Yotes' a chance every night, In the end though experience will reign supreme.

#3 Vancouver over #6 Los Angeles in 6 - LA the youngest team in this years playoffs had a great season if the Kings can take at least one of the two in Vancouver this series could pan out a lot better for the Kings.

#2 Chicago over #7 Nashville in 6 - In a match up of Division opponents I like Pekka Rinne more then his country mate Antti Niemi but Chicago can do one thing Nashville can't do control the play with their offense and that's the X factor in this series.

Setting up.

East

#1 Washington vs. #4 Pittsburgh

#2 New Jersey vs. #3 Buffalo

West

#1 San Jose vs. #5 Detroit

#2 Chicago vs. #3 Vancouver
