...but you could also like the Orioles, due to the then Red Wings/Orioles connection.

I've never heard of this. Please tell.

I think he's referring to the Rochester Red WIngs and the years Rochester was Baltimore's AAA affiliate.

When I was a kid, you liked the Yankees or the Mets (generally the Yankees), but you could also like the Orioles, due to the then Red Wings/Orioles connection.

Even though the Jays were about three hours away, they didn't register.

I don't know different it is in Syracuse with the Chiefs connection.

A good friend of mine from Syracuse became a Blue Jays fan because the Chiefs were Toronto's AAA affiliate. He's the only one I ever ran across in 7 years of hell living my time in Syracuse. Most people were either Yankees or Mets fans with an occasional Red Sox fan thrown in.

One would also think there would have been Expos fans up around Plattsburgh and stuff, but there are hardly any people up around Plattsburgh and stuff.

Oh they're up there, they're just hard to find because they're buried under 23 feet of snow.

Indeed. They had the affiliation for something like 50 years before the relationship soured in the late 90s/early 2000s.

The Yankees and Cardinals were the only two teams I didn't want to see win it all. Every other team? I was ok with them winning. Dodgers included. I don't hate them at all. I'm just sort of indifferent. They're a legacy team that hasn't won a title in a while, so it would be kinda cool if they managed to do it.

I'm the same way with the Dodgers, but in this field they're the team I'm rooting for the least. You have to figure LA will eventually Yankees their way to a title whereas the other teams feel like they won't have as many shots in the near future at winning it all.

I usually wish the Dodgers well, but I heard during a game last week that Vin Scully had to have surgery recently and wouldn't be calling any postseason games. In that case, forget it, why bother. The only point of rooting for the private-equity-monster-owned Dodgers at this point is for Vin Scully to say one last time that the Dodgers have won the World Series. That's all.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Get used to Dodgers success, cuz it's gonna last a while. After Greinke wipes the floor with the Mets tonight they'll make short work of the Cubbies. Scully will probably have a pre-taped message ready for the World Series after they win the pennant.

Just a quick observation: it wasn't all that long ago that most people, myself included, were convinced that teams like Kansas City, Houston, Toronto, Texas, etc. had virtually no chance of being successful because they couldn't keep up with the payrolls of NY, LA, and Boston. I remember saying on these very boards that teams like the Royals and Astros were doing nothing more than playing 162 exhibition games every season. Now here we are in 2015 with the Royals and Jays playing for the AL pennant after beating the Astros and Rangers. Funny how things work out.

While I'm here - what Ice_Cap and McCarthy said about the Dodgers pretty much sums up my feelings.

Yeah Pirates too. There was a time not too long ago when I asked my dad what it was like when the Pirates were good because to me they were only ever the team that you beat 10 times a year.

To further this point I remember thinking around 2007 that it was impossible and unfair for the Blue Jays, Orioles, and Rays to be forced to play in a division along with the Yankees and Red Sox. Now all three teams have not only won division titles since then, but advanced to at least the ALCS. Granted, the Red Sox and Yankees cashed in on world championship themselves in that time (sidebar: the 2013 Red Sox feel like one of the flukiest WS winners to anyone else?), but point remains.

There are no excuses anymore. If you suck it's because you suck. My team sucks.

Go Mets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is anyone seriously cheering the Dodgers tonight at all?

Yes. As much as you can cheer a team on in a game that you're not watching.

Not only do I want the Mets to lose because they're the Mets, but I want Chase Utley to pitch the 9th inning and strike out the side. If that were to happen, I'd lobby the mods to end Tank's suspension early just so we could enjoy the reaction.
