vicfurth
As much as I'd love to see the Jays' smug faces get pelted by the Cubbies, their run needs to end now. Indians in 5.

Hell, I don't even care if Los Angeles wins it; six titles isn't a lot for a franchise like them. Five of those in LA (Brooklyn '55). They have won a ton of pennants, but lost more WS than they've won. And their last two titles were so long ago (1981/1988) that ABC/NBC were still televising games and it was before ESPN got into the baseball business. Went to bed in the seventh fully expecting a Giants win and seeing them somehow pull game 5 out of nowhere and winning the series. Glad it didn't happen though! One thing I've been really impressed by though reading this thread now after I woke up is the Giants fans here. You guys handled it with class. I've witnessed a lot of threads (and myself been part of the problem) where people don't take losses well and so forth. Well done guys. Red Sox, Cardinals, and still shocking to me (because I never expected it), the Giants, have been the "annoyingly good" teams so far this century. I've seen quite a few Sox and Cards fans take the "hate" too personally, and make the situation so much worse for themselves. I'm not perfect (and have had my moments, as all of us have just like CS85 said), but I've made it a point to not be too much of a smug dick about it. The thing I wanted more than any championship (they kind of go hand in hand, though), is to have that reputation as the team people are afraid to play in the playoffs. I knew the Giants weren't as good as the Cubs and probably we're going to lose. But they had a certain level of respect given to them because of that "never say die" reputation. That's something I never saw the Giants ever having because they had such a stench of failure before this run. Maybe it's weird to want that type of historical validation, but it's a really nice feeling. It kinda gives all of the :censored:ty years and the tough losses (like 02) a better sense of purpose. It's one of those things I hope all teams get to experience, because it's really cool. Well, except for the Dodgers. They can remain underachievers as long as they want ? FinsUp1214
I just realized the rest of the field not only has significant World Series droughts, but each have fairly sizable pennant droughts, also. Indians: 1997 (19 years) Blue Jays: 1993 (23) Dodgers: 1988 (28) *Nationals/Expos: None, est. 1969 (47) Cubs: 1945 (71) *Any Washington franchise: 1933 (83) So we're not only going to see someone get a ring for the first time in a long time, but we're going to altogether see two teams in the World Series that we haven't seen in a long time (or in the Nats' case, ever). This is awesome.

Some (I'm guessing) Lebron-loving jackwagon on Wikipedia even edited the 2016 MLB season article to say that Cleveland would sweep Toronto en route to the World Series earlier today. Bleh. Unocal
Here's an amazing stat from this postseason: Cubs pitchers (Arrieta/Wood/Hendricks) combined for more HR's and RBI than the following players all did combined: Hanley Ramirez, David Ortiz, Mookie Betts, Xavier Boegarts, Jackie Bradley Jr, Carlos Beltran, Rougned Odor, Adrian Beltre, and Jonathan Lucroy. The_Admiral
From an aesthetic standpoint, I want the Dodgers to take this. Everything about the Nats' identity chaps my ass so hard: red as a base color instead of navy blue, the embrace of the curly W over the interlocking DC, abandoning the beautiful Art-Deco-public-works wordmarks for a boring script and the curly W on the uniforms, dropping the gold beveling on the numbers only to keep varsity serif to be all thick and ugly without it. And that's just the uniforms! Nationals Park sucks too. Here they had the opportunity to build a graceful contemporary stadium that eschewed all the neo-retro trappings for some nice symmetry and sensible curves and angles, but then they went and put in stupid haphazard outfield dimensions instead of a traditional symmetrical curve like RFK had. The stone on the backstop is nice and unique but for "NATIONALS PARK" in ugly type sitting on a shelf. Even the name is as desultory as can be, eschewing naming rights but not even coming up with a memorable name like Camden Yards. We gave up the Montreal Expos for this? ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
2001mark
Nationals Park reminds me of MVP Baseball 2005's create a ballpark. For such a masterpiece of a video game (I still play my owner mode each spring) that stadium is like Comiskey 2 in a galaxy of charm. @2001mark
FiddySicks
This is why it's totally worthless rooting for a Dusty Baker led team. God, his teams are the BIGGEST choke artists. I always liked Bud Black from his San Diego days, and I thought he was a decent manager who was saddled with generally subpar rosters. Picking up Dusty would slam their title window shut and send Bryce packing once free agency rolled around. So, I wasn't entirely wrong. Dusty Baker is playoff poison. 4 minutes ago, OnWis97 said: Over 4.5 hours for a 9-inning game. All thanks to the horrors of the seventh inning. The pitch clock wouldn't have helped much. FiddySicks
I said it at the beginning of the year, and I'll say it again. Dusty Baker was an absolute JOKE of a hire.
