At 5-2 it never even occurred to me that the Cubs might win tonight.  I was thinking, pessimistically, about Game 5.  And wondering whether the Giants would make it a 4th consecutive even year.  And now, worst case, the champ will have most recently won in 1993.  Along with the Royals last year, it's refreshing.

With Boston and San Francisco out, this is already going to be one of the best playoffs I've ever watched. Hell, I don't even care if Los Angeles wins it; six titles isn't a lot for a franchise like them.

Sigh. Well, you live by a trash bullpen, you die by one I suppose.

I have no hard feelings though. What a run that was. I have nothing but appreciation for what this team has done this decade. What a group of awesome memories this team has brought. I figured this team was probably it for the even year run. The bullpen was an absolute dumpster fire in the second half, and not the fun way like in 2014 where it was like "This team has pitching problems oh haha look at that, they won another World Series. Bumgarner lol". But PROBLEMS, like "Oh, this team has pitching problems. Our even year fun run is probably gonna run outta gas this time around." So it's all good. Hats off to the Cubbies. What a team they have. I hope they win it all. But I f they lose in the next round to the Dodgers, I will hate them FOREVER.

Oh, and as for the Giants, they better fire the ENTIRE bullpen. I don't wanna see a single one of those clowns back next year.  30 blown saves, 9 in September alone, and 2 in 5 playoff games. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Somewhere in Time is really underrated.

Anyway, it doesn't surprise me that the Giants somehow managed to fight back against the Cubs. I figured they'd give the Cubs a tough fight at some point, and it was nice to see the offense and bullpen clicking together for once (save for the home run Romo surrendered). Even Span lifted himself above his "Iron Glove"-level fielding.  I'm not super sure that they can force that game five in Chicago, seeing as how semi-inconsistent Matt Moore is on the mound today (BTW, the Matt Duffy trade was totally worth it - the Giants wouldn't have made the playoffs without it) against the guy who started for the Angels in game seven of the 2002 World Series (Lackey's had a decently long career), but it's wonderful to see the Giants put up a real fight.

You are Almighty, JasonFromMiami, Rays, TomTucker, and a variety of other banned accounts. Even if your IP address is clean, there is little if any doubt that you are this guy, and that you are the worst poster on these boards. Please, go away, and maybe find yourself a nice home on a dingy subreddit or 8chan. You're more their type.

I am sorry the Giants lost, but  you should not take it out on other posters. I don´t accuse other members of anything and I don´t post old music videos in a baseball thread.

I really don't, but I can understand why some fans would. It's because of the 2012 NLDS. His dumbassery made that World Series win possible! (sorry @McCarthy)

I was having PTSD flashbacks to 2012 watching this Giants-Cubs series and watching Dusty manage the Nationals. He's lost 8 straight games when his team could advance to the next round. After a certain point that becomes the manager's fault and not just bad luck or whatever. Bochy managed circles around him in 2012, he handled the 2013 wildcard game in 2013 awfully, and I'll be surprised if the Nationals win game 5.

I went to sleep in the 8th inning because I've seen the Giants do this a hundred times now so I didn't even see the historic comeback. I was happy when I checked my phone this morning though!

Yes cubs! Went to bed in the seventh fully expecting a Giants win and seeing them somehow pull game 5 out of nowhere and winning the series. Glad it didn't happen though!

One thing I've been really impressed by though reading this thread now after I woke up is the Giants fans here. You guys handled it with class. I've witnessed a lot of threads (and myself been part of the problem) where people don't take losses well and so forth. Well done guys.

Three championships in five years with a history of pulling out improbable wins is the right combination of satisfaction and house money not to get too worked up.

I gotta hand it to the Giants. That's a ridiculously tenacious lineup and a great rotation. They really made the Cubs earn it. That could very well be the toughest series the Cubs play. Great playoff baseball all around.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

It's a lot easier to shrug and say "meh" when your team has won three recent championships. You feel a nice sense of calmness. Just look at how rational Blackhawks fans are when their team loses.

The season just started and already Ducks fans are acting like they just blew a playoff series.  I get it - you're salty.  I would be furious!  Hell, look at the stupid post(s) I made earlier in this thread where I had no dignity or composure - it's just how I am.  But I love when other fans, myself included (I too am guilty), of talking like they are above the din, or above the petty squabbling of the classless heathen fans.  "Look how awful those blackhawks fans are, mur-heh-heh-hurghle-her!"

You're just another message board dope like the rest of us who lives and dies with their teams in big moments.  You're no smarter or better than any of us, except maybe Brian in Boston (just kidding, but seriously don't ban me over this).  We're all buffoons.  We all hate when our teams lose and we all look stupid every great once in a while.  Hell, I'm looking stupid right now typing this.

The Ducks are bad.  The Giants are bad.  The Blackhawks will probably be mediocre-to-bad.  The Cubs could lose and all the love for them will turn into frothing hate and heartbreaking disappointment.  Everything changes on a dime because some stupid team will enter the conversation (HELLO CLEVELAND) and turn the narrative on its head.

TL;DR:  The Columbus Blue Jackets will win the Stanley Cup; CS85 banned

Derek Law is actually a decent pitcher. I don't doubt that the Giants will be keeping him, and ditching the rest (save for Strickland and maybe Kontos).

It's been a good run for the older bullpen guys, but I'm not sad to see them go.

Three in five gives you a bit of perspective, and lets you not get too desperate each time your team is in the playoffs. There's less intense attachment (certainly less than in 2010 and '12, I'll tell you that). Also, given the injuries to many of the team's better players (Posey - whose power was sapped by thumb, wrist, and back trouble, Pence, Belt, etc.), I didn't want them putting unnecessary mileage on their bodies, mileage that could hurt the longevity of those guys.

It's been a good run, and if it's over, I don't mind that one bit.

I think the feel good matchup in the World Series would be Cleveland vs. Chicago. 1948 vs. 1908.

However; I feel like if Toronto can chase the Indians pitching and force Francona to plan on the fly; a third AL Pennant will fly north of the border and Game 1 would be in Rogers Center and not Progressive Field.

Tomorrow's game should be fine to drop in on for a little while. I've been following baseball in an extremely casual manner and I'm intrigued to see who gets the honor of being beaten by the Cubs in five games. The true hope rests with a small avian creature to the North.

God bless you Auston Matthews.
