FiddySicks
Studio Movie Grill would probably make some sense for the ESPN Zone location. I’d like that to reopen, though. That place was great. 2 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)

I’m not sure about the Anaheim area in particular, but yeah, we have a bunch in south Orange County. Its not a bad option, but I never found that AMC to be a great movie location anyway. If I’m going to Disney, I’m not seeing a movie. And if I’m seeing a movie, I’m not dealing with Disney. 2 Quote | ANA | LAA | LAR | LAL | ASU | CSULB | USMNT | USWNT | LAFC | OCSC | MAN UTD |

The AMC's already confirmed to be relocating to the Garden Walk (although strangely I did go on a date at that Downtown Disney AMC a decade or so ago). With the ESPN Zone, since even the one at LA Live, directly downstairs from the ESPN LA studio complex, went under there's no way that's going to come back in any capacity. The Los Angeles Rams moved to Anaheim in 1980 and no one cared that they kept the Los Angeles name. The NHL first began to be interested in Anaheim in the late 80s. The Minnesota North Stars proposed moving in the early 90s, and were planning on using the name “Los Angeles Stars.” That deal only got nixed because the NHL wanted that sweet, sweet expansion cheque from Disney. And Disney opted to name their team the “Mighty Ducks of Anaheim” to drum up publicity for the locale of one of their major resorts. Had the Los Angeles Stars relocation gone through, or had Disney just gone with “Los Angeles Mighty Ducks”? We’d likely think nothing of a team in Anaheim using the “Los Angeles” name. Again, the Rams did it for fourteen years and no one cared. Pretty much without the magic of Walt Disney, Anaheim would be as known as any other suburb of LA.
Digby
Yeah, I always thought it was just commonly accepted that the Mighty Ducks and then the Angels took on "Anaheim" as the geographic ID primarily because making it "Disneyland" would have been one step too far.

The Angels are "Los Angeles" because that was their original name and they're part of the Greater LA Metro Area. Don't get some people started on that.... I agree with IceCap's statement that if Anaheim teams had always been called "Los Angeles" nobody would give it a lot of thought. Little quirks sort of get our minds focused in one direction. For example, I am absolutely convinced that if New York City and New York State did not have the same name (e.g., if the city was called "Gotham") then people would be far less bent out of shape about the Gotham Giants and Gotham Jets not being called "New Jersey." They're conflating the city and state. That explains why nobody demand the Washington Redskins be called the Maryland Redskins. Last September, I took a trip to LA, stayed in Rodando Beach and rented a car. I went to, among other things, a Dodger game and an Angel game. Driving to the Angels game, I never felt like I was leaving the LA market. The ballpark's setting seemed to be very "general suburbia." I know Anaheim is bigger/different than Orchard Park or Auburn Hills; if a team wants to market specifically to that part of the region, it makes some sense. But it's not wrong to call them "LA." 8 Quote Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse." Florida to Miami Marlins took me no time to adjust to, while Phoenix to Arizona Cardinals still seems weird to me. The Angels have gone all directions with this. Small (LA) to medium (CA) to small (Anaheim) back to medium (LA). For whatever reason, LAA (or LAA of A) has taken me far longer to get used to than Anaheim from California did. 1 Quote "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed." Could be the overall branding, too -- when they went to Anaheim the periwinkle scheme and the absurd 90s logos came with it, so it was a cleaner break. Anaheim to LAAoA was easy to miss, frankly, if you weren't paying attention beyond the field of play.

colortv
Angel Stadium is less than 30 miles from downtown LA. I don't think most people realize how big the LA metro area is, as Bill Simmons put it. There are points that are well over 100 miles apart.

Quillz
It’s not even distance. Geography, too. There’s a full blown mountain range between downtown LA and the suburbs of the valley. Want to travel 10 miles from Van Nuys to downtown? Enjoy the 405 traffic through Sepulveda Pass.

That's why I find this Chargers stuff in the other thread so silly. They have a market from the Mexican border in the south to basically Santa Barbara in the North, stretching 230 miles North to South with 20 million people. You would have to try to fail in order to do so.
