AnPheitseog
Yeah, I have no sympathy for Phoenix haha. Too busy celebrating the fact that the USL cup will run through Pittsburgh and I’ll be at the usl cup final. Unless of course, the hounds screw this up in which case I will not be pleased Formerly known as DiePerske

I'll have to agree to disagree on that one. It feels like every one of those presentations came from a focus group of advertising executives. I know that's how its done but sometimes I don't need to know how the sausage is made. I mean, I had more fun finding the hidden H in the Whalers logo myself than getting a diagram on each minute part of a logo.

Dilbert
Wow. Quite the shakeup in the USL Playoffs this weekend. Real Monarchs upseting the Supporters Shield winners Phoenix Rising, They will host expansion club El Paso Locomotive who beat Sacramento Republic (Condolences @Bucfan56) in the Western Conference Final. Meanwhile in the East top seed Pittsburgh Riverhounds were upset by the two time defending champions Louisville City. Louisville City will play at Indy Eleven who upset Nashville SC in Nashville. The USL Championship Final will either be at Indy (being played at Carroll Stadium, as home venue Lucas Oil Stadium is unavailable due to Colts and other events) or at Louisville (likely at Lynn Stadium at Uof L due to an event at Slugger Field). Brian in Boston
It's official... Carlos Vela is the 2019 Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player!!! Vela captured the award in landslide fashion, earning 80.33% of the player vote, 64.65% of the club management vote, and 63.85% of the media vote (69.61% average). He becomes the first Mexican player to ever win the honor.
FiddySicks
Hold on, wait a second. The MLS MVP award is called the Landon Donovan Award? That's the absolute lamest thing I've ever seen. That would be like if the NFL MVP Award was called the Jeff George Award. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Even better, it was already called this when he un-retired for his last stint with the Galaxy. At the time it was names this he was the all time leading goal scorer for the league I think, which makes a certain amount of sense. But he's already been passed by Wondo, sooo https://www.mlssoccer.com/stats/alltime Huh, Kei Kamara is fifth all time. Wish the Caps had kept him this year. Gothamite
It's almost as bad as renaming the Open Cup trophy after Lamar Hunt. Taking the legitimate accomplishments of a person and blowing them way out of proportion. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. FiddySicks
Like, I get that Donovan was at one very short time and may still be the biggest name in US soccer (I think he's already been surpassed in that category, though), but that's a decision people are going to look back on and wonder just why in the hell the MVP trophy was ever named after someone as thoroughly medicore as Landon Donovan. If that's how high you've set the bar, you might as well crawl underneath it. Landon Donovan being the "face" of US soccer is the prime example of US soccer still being in it's absolute infancy. You don't name the league MVP trophy after a dude like that and expect to be taken seriously by anyone in the greater soccer universe. Digby
It shouldn't have been named at all; it was just a PR move to win a news cycle and try to create an inflated sense of specialness on the part of MLS. Yes... more than half of the hardware that Major League Soccer's member-franchises and their players can be awarded carry the name of some honored individual or a sponsoring company. * The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup goes to the winner of the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States. * The Philip F. Anschutz Trophy is presented to the winner of the MLS Cup Championship. That follows two different versions of the Alan I. Rothenberg Trophy that were previously awarded to the game's victor. * The Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player Award goes to the league's MVP. Previously, the top player in MLS received the Honda MLS Most Valuable Player Award (1996 to 2006) or the Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player Award (1997 to 2014). * The Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year Award is presented to the league's top coach. * The MLS Golden Boot Award presented by Audi goes to the league's top goal-scorer. * The Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Award is bestowed upon the league's best 'keeper. * The AT&T Rookie of the Year Award goes to the league's top player without previous professional experience who made his debut during the season in question. * The MLS WORKS Humanitarian of the Year Award presented by Advocare recognizes the player who goes above and beyond with his charitable efforts. * Then there are awards for the AT&T Goal of the Year and the Save of the Year presented by Allstate. The Supporters' Shield and Voyageurs Cup carry the names of the groups presenting them, while the Newcomer of the Year, Defender of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, Referee of the Year, and Assistant Referee of the Year awards somehow managed to slip under the radar without being named in someone's honor/memory or sold to the highest bidder.
