noticed something kind of weird. it seems like, at least in mets camp, there's a second version of the ST cap that is constructed like a traditional trucker hat.

look at these pictures of francisco lindor and david peterson, and the presser clip of edwin diaz. seems obvious that the back panel is a more traditional mesh. and you can see in the lindor picture that the front two panels are a more traditional polyester blend (note, too, how the logo is more obviously raised than it is on the diamond era version). anyone else notice this in any other camp?

Interesting.  I wonder if this is something experimental and they are collecting player feedback?  The plan could be to use this leaguewide next spring.

I hope not.

hahaha yeah, it would definitely be...let's call it regressive. but i find it interesting that they're even in circulation. what other reason could it be than beta testing? it reminds me of when new era switched from wool to the poly blend during the '06 world series. definitely seems like there's a little smoke here.

EDIT: also notice the "trucker" version has just the MLB logo and not the ST logo on the back of the cap.

It was teased on the Unified video, but the Angels unveiled their 60th Anniversary logo. Only will be used on hats, and apparently no sleeve patches (because apparently the two current patches couldn't be replaced...'tis stupid).

They have two different versions of the anniversary logo? The one on the left is from the webpage and the one on the right is from the Twitter video.

I much prefer the one on the left. The placement of "Angels Baseball" and "60th Anniversary" on the right is rough and I don't really like the inclusion of the MLB logo. I also don't really like inclusion of an actual diamond on either.

February 24, 2021 - 20:31 PM

The San Francisco Giants made it official yesterday that they will be adding player names to the back of their home cream jerseys for the 2021 season. News of the Giants plans had been reporated as far back as this past August. This will be the first time the team

Yeah the one on the left is definitely better as it's "less is more". The one on the right just has too many things that are redundant.

60th anniversaries are common in baseball.

And they've also become popular in the NFL...all/almost all teams from the AFL had 60th anniversary logos in 2019, along with the Eagles, Browns, Steelers, Cowboys, Lions, and Vikings in their respective years.

I'm good with sports teams doing anniversaries on the decades and on the quarters. I don't need a 15th or a 35th or a 65th, but a 60th, 70th, and 80th are fine.

It's probably more of a minor league venture, but I do think it would be kind of funny for a team to buck the trend once and celebrate an arbitrary year (not like the decades and the quarters aren't arbitrary themselves) like their 12th anniversary or their 27th. Maybe not for a whole year, but maybe just a weekend or something.

New Era unveils a lot of dumb concepts for spring training, but I can't imagine that mesh hats would ever become the standard for one of their product cycles. Aesthetics aside, these hats offer very minimal sun protection for people with short or no hair. Not very ideal for Florida or Arizona weather, obviously.

They should have pulled 'an Angels' and included their 'A' logo on there at least 3 times. In case we, you know, forgot who the team was.

To be fair trucker hats really do keep your head cooler despite the aesthetics. I'm sure the players just want to keep cool.

as someone that shaves  their head bald, yeah...i definitely agree. just think it's odd to see them in this setting. it's gotta be *something* (even if this is, like...this year's version of the "clubhouse cap" that never really catches on).

In all seriousness, yeah, this sucks. They’ve been putting the names on the home replicas for about a decade now, and it’s always looked amateurish. Not sure why they wanna extend that to the field.

This team just keeps chipping away at their look, man. I hate it. It’s Braves level unnecessary and dumb.

Maybe just an option? Like the Elmer Fudds?

Didn't the dodgers or the reds experiment with trucker hats in the 70s or 80s?

I'm pretty sure there were some in the playoffs in the 2000's as well? Actually it was opening day.
