I mean NISA would need to have a steady slate of teams that have stadiums and a second division to relegate to first...

But yes, USL may have internal pro-rel. Frankly I think it's a mistake, particularly with the league still this young trying to establish rivalries and grouping teams geographically. USL-1 is just too low level to have a national footprint. Particularly after MLS finishes pulling its teams out. I mean I hate pro-rel in general but even if they were to implement it, that's something for 20 years down the line. They're rushing into this to "differentiate" themselves from MLS. Problem is, MLS has proven their model is what works in the US. Why run counter to that and fail. Same goes for the calendar as we discussed earlier. This country gets too cold in the north for a fall-winter league without a very long winter break like Russia. If spring-fall is good enough for the likes of Sweden, Brazil and Ireland, it's good enough for the US.

I wonder if we'll see teams turn down promotion too because  of the added costs. Didn't Richmond do that?

Rumor has it Messi was in the house for that Miami game last night.

I don't think I can overstate how important it is/was for the health of the league as a whole for Inter Miami to fall flat on its face.  Everything about their approach from Beckham overstepping his fellow owners, to the hiring his buddy Neville, to the Championship-level players they brought in (Shawcross, Kieran Gibbs, and kicking the tires on Willian) was completely unimaginative and even snobbish to a degree.

Instead of looking for young and exciting Latin American players hungry to launch their careers (and would go a long way in helping endear the club to the city), they instead went after big European names who were past their prime. The only time those moves work out in MLS  -- Keane, Beckham, Henry, Villa, Zlatan, Nani -- are when those players are the ultimate competitors and they have such pride/egos/drive that won't allow them to go out and play at half-speed.

They’ve just colossally bought in on the ideas on building an MLS team from a decade+ ago. Guess it makes sense for Beckham to do that, of all people. But it sure doesn’t work in the MLS 3.0 era.

Most of Seattle is injured so they started a bunch of 16 year olds today. Raul Ruidiaz came along for the trip to Austin, came off the bench and then did this:

Amazing.

I literally came here to post this shot. I don't care who hears it, but I like soccer.

I'm surprised Seattle hadn't done that yet.  I don't like the flashing strobe light thing, it gives me headaches, but the fans were in to it.

the green lights are great.

Strobe lights are damn irresponsible.  Bad for fans and for players.

And I just saw this HOLY COW is this a time-deaf response from the club involved.

That's not from the club; that's a supporter group.  (RacingLouFC is the team's Twitter account.)

I noticed during the Sounders/Austin game that the green lights still came on after a goal (called back) but I didn't notice a crazy strobing effect. Maybe they got rid of it following complaints?

Some people just waste oxygen.

They had a similar idea at one of the Stadiums in Singapore, but it was Red and it was super bright and annoying.

Now they don't flash as much and sometimes they don't even use them.

Logano wins BOWL before Chargers.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who’s noticed and been annoyed by this trend. I guess Austin’s is fine but meh. But the Revs started making their floodlights dance when Gillette went to LEDs like 3 years ago, and it’s so obnoxious. This is not the club!

I figure when Alabama football is jumping on the trend, it probably needs to die.

This is all I’ll say about it, but watch the soccer team in Sac in the next couple weeks. Chickens coming to roost… Ugliness and embarrassment inbound.
