Also I suspect it was only chosen because it's phonetically similar to "Indians". Which seems dumb to me, if you're going to change the name don't cling to it and hint at it as closely as possible. That's the same reason I wouldn't want the (Washington Football Team) renamed to Redwolves or Redtails or whatever. If you're going to distance yourself from the name, actually distance yourself. I think you're spot on here. Yes, they can point to the bridge statues, but without those a team would never, ever go for Guardians unless it was the bad guy in a mid-2000s football movie. I don't think keeping "-dians" should have been any kind of guiding principle, but whatever. That's what they chose. I think it's fine. I like the moderate refresh of logos, and I appreciate that they made a decision and are going for it. They'll modify and tweak the logo through the years, so what's launching today is unlikely to be the dominant brand by the end of the decade. Remember when the Washington Nationals looked like this? It's really the only element of this new brand that actually incorporates elements of the statues that inspired the name. According to his profile, FiddySicks lives in Sacramento. It's not like the dude is dunking on Ohio from Honolulu. Sacramento is Cleveland with nicer weather, far less charm, and one almost NBA level basketball team. No one moves to California because they dream of living in Sacramento. I really don’t give a single :censored: about Cleveland, either way. I usually forget that Ohio even has another large city other than Cincinnati. Going with a name like Spiders and using some new colors, IMO, would elevate that franchise and give it a unique flair. Something even non Clevelanders would be interested in.
