As long as they retire those terrible chrome helmets, I'm a fan. It makes sense for the Golden Knights to wear gold, and I'm honestly surprised they didn't go with these from the get-go.

Hate to break it to you, but chrome domes will remain, but for only three games.

I've never understood the need to market a grocery staple in this way. In the '80s, the whole "Got Milk?" campaign came to be as defense against sugary sodas, which was apparently cutting into milk sales. But as a consumer, I've never needed a reminder that milk is a thing and that I need to buy it. It's not like I suddenly would start putting orange juice in my Cheerios in the morning.

It would be different if it were a certain brand of milk, but the idea of marketing milk in general has always felt odd to me. And if it is necessary, why stop there? Do they have a "butter" campaign? Why don't they put "milk" on the home jerseys, "butter" on the away and "cheese" on the alternates?

I'm sure it's similar in other places, but in Ontario the dairy farmers are basically a cartel. The government controls the supply of milk & sets the prices for the entire market, so they advertise it as a commodity. They aren't competing with pop/sugary drinks anymore, but there has been a rise in dairy-free alternatives that have likely put a big hit in their sales (oat milk, almond milk, etc.)

I wasn't referring to the location of the patch. That was set in stone by the league. I was talking about the design of the patch. A fairly basic wordmark in team colours is much better than a bright red square with a Scotiabank logo.

I believe Bill Foley mentioned that they weren't happy with the first attempts at a gold jersey. I guess they initially weren't able to get the right shimmer on the fabric.

I normally am not a fan of an alternate jersey being promoted to primary status, but in this case it's literally an inversion of their away jersey, so it makes sense. Grey pants on the road is a good choice too, although the tiny black trim on the collar doesn't really fit anymore.

I was thinking about the alt-milk movement, too, realizing that those products are  certainly a competitive threat to the dairy industry. But even then, it's not as if seeing the word "milk" is going to somehow reinforce its existence. And it's certainly not introducing something new. Plus, it would seem even less effective when you consider those competitors also have the word "milk" in them.

I realize a sports uniform message board probably is the wrong venue for serious marketing analysis, but here we are. :)

The heavy usage of white on the gold alternates really brings them down for me. There's no excuse for there to be any white on that jersey when they have 3 dark colors they could use in place of it.

I hadn't thought about what the jersey would look without white, so I made a crappy five minute mockup.

I like the real one better, personally. Though neither of them are really that bad.

excellent job screwing up a classic uniform.  All for a few bucks a billionaire doesn’t need at all.

this one is really bad.  It’s a contrasting color to the main jersey.  It’s huge and ugly as hell.  Absolutely pathetic new ad program for the NHL.  Just trashing classic brands.

The Leafs have announced their jersey ad for this season.

If the league insists on ad patches, this is about as inoffensive as they can be. Can't wait for all the sour milk jokes when they inevitably collapse in the first round again.

Forget all the sour milk jokes, the Leafs did it right with their corporate ad, much unlike the Habs.

And you "can take that to the bank".

I think I like your mockup better in a vacuum but it also looks like an inevitable Penguins fauxback we haven't got to yet, which is not something I've thought about with the real one.

RBC don't care about anything in regards to sports.

They're not paying the Montreal Canadiens franchise a few extra dollars to have a small ambiguous ad that's barely visible on the jersey. They're here to go KHL on the Big 4.

Props to Vegas for making gold primary.  Unique color that reflects both the team name and the city.

It's about time, tbh. They are the GOLDEN Knights, after all.

It made no sense that their minor league affiliate called the Silver Knights had a silver jersey, but the big club called the Golden Knights also used to have a silver jersey, or at the very least a graphite color closer to silver than gold. They finally fixed that issue. 🙌

Tacky and unrefined? Yup, fits Vegas like a glove.

TIL charcoal grey = silver 😛

In all seriousness, the Knights' gold jersey is not as nice looking as the grey, and it's really stupid that they insist on it because "it's Vegas". Vegas is also known for gambling on the Strip, and they avoided that like the plague when making the team identity in favor of being a legally-distinct copycat of the Army Black Knights.

It looked fine as an alternate that's supposed to be kinda kitschy and a little ugly to play to the locals. As a regular home, that appeal is lost and they just become another yellow team but this time they're sparkly.

Looks better without white.  Also probably without red (or replace the red with white.)

They should wear this full time, using a white sweater only as a clash shirt for when they play a team like the Flyers, though even then it might not be necessary.

Hey, I HATE the corporate greed that's contaminating the NHL. However, I'm just trying to find odd positive here and there. I felt sorry for Kraken fans for not having a chance to see the Seattle S logo on their team's helmets last season's inaugural year.

That's like saying 💩 is better than diarrhea. Both are terrible

Sometimes I asked myself does it bother them, when they do things that no one agrees with? I thought it didn't. But then I remember that Montreal pre-planned announcing fan favorite Nick Suzuki's captaincy, immediately after the RBC announcement. They knew it was coming. Montreal may be the most vocal and passionate fanbase in the world about the sports teams and wrestling promotions that are the most popular here.

That said, it may not bother the managers at the top. But I bet the Habs Twitter account runner and many media people probably had a hard time, on that day. It would have been worse without the Suzuki announcement. If they tried to tone it down, it's because they were feeling the heat.

The team already makes so much cash. Then I wonder is it really worth upsetting litterally everybody?
