NFL 2023 Changes

I guess the real question is how many more (non-throwback) alt helmets will show up next year. Is there any team left with black in their color scheme that hasn't already intro'ed a crappy black alt helmet?   Raiders, Buccaneers... 49ers, Chiefs, and Vikings (please, no) if you count logos.

A few wild, completely unsupported guesses (again, not counting throwbacks);

Lions white helmet to go with their ghastly all white uniform.

Rams in yellow, which would be terrible.

Dolphins in aqua, which no one needs.

Ravens in Purple, probably.

I won't completely (though there's been exactly zero rumors even hinting at this) rule out the possibility that sometime in the next two or three seasons we see a teal Jags helmet. I've seen several prototypes in person, one with that anodized finish (or whatever its called) that the Vikings currently use, and while it'll defintiely be different, I think it may look good as an alternate—however I don't know that I'd want it to be primary.

I know one thing, though: they better not even THINK of doing an alternate white helmet...

Outside of the immediate reasons that would make people oppose the teal helmet (general look and lack of necessity), it also has some implications that wouldn't be ideal for the team.

I assume that a teal helmet would be intended to pair with a teal jersey, but that couldn't be done due to the current primary and alternate uni designations. There are two main issues with an alt teal helmet, because it implies that:

- Teal is demoted to alternate again and results in less teal games, with some (if not all) being paired with the new helmet

or

- We get a weird combination that no one really asked for (like teal/black/black)

Unless the NFL loosens up their weird uniform rules surrounding these helmets, a teal alternate helmet wouldn't be good for the Jaguars. It's situations like this that show just how intense the Pandora's Box of alternate helmets is (if that wasn't clear already).

I would really like to see the Chargers wear an alternate powder blue helmet at some point.

They can pull a panthers and call all teal their color rush

The Jags can solve their *lack of teal* problems simply by sticking with teal pants home and away, especially with their current sets. They do that and we'll be guaranteed a lot more teal on the field. (Plus, as long as they stick with single-color numbers & this current set, I personally think it's their best primary pairing.)

They keep it to this and, while not ideal, I could live with the teal jersey as an alternate--and I'd be fine with never seeing the white pants again. Plus, since "Black and Teal" has been their marketing thing for almost a decade now, what better way than to emphasize them the most with the color combos they wear on the field. (Yes, I realize I'm making a ton of concessions here as a fan since their inception, but given their current state or aesthetics, if this is what they're gonna stick with, those are the best ways to present it.)

Imma need a teal Jags helmet if we're being honest (black facemasks though).

Just imagine black facemask, though it doesn't look bad with a gold facemask.

I would prefer if the NFL stuck a foot back in the ground and only allowed alternate helmets for throwbacks.

Alt helmets sounded fun in theory, especially for the Bengals, but even those turned out to be underwhelmingly bland uniforms. Everything else we got this year outside of throwbacks was bad.

The NFL should have simply gone back to the 2012 rules that only allowed for a throwback alternate helmet. I'm not sure why they did what they did.

I can answer that...

I'd honestly be fine with if they made it that you can wear the alternate with any combination, but any use of an alternate helmet or jersey counts towards your 3 alternates a season, so choose wisely

A Teal Jaguars helmet would not be a bad thing as it would be entirely unique to the league, but it must be worn with the right uniform combination.  If they went with Teal as their true primary jersey, it works, and they could bring out a Black helmet as an alternate for their Black jerseys (only).  This is why:

Now, the helmet wouldn't look like that because the NFL doesn't allow Black chinstraps or bumpers, but you get the idea...it's not the best choice over a Black jersey (unless worn over Teal pants, which is their worst combination).

However, the helmet in theory is not bad:

I'd be interested in seeing better mock-ups with the current uniform and their combos, along with a Black faceguard, to really decide.

I'd absolutely support a matte White helmet - if the NFL allowed Black bumpers & chinstraps.  With a Black faceguard, their logo, and a little bit of teal accents on wordmarks on the bumpers, it'd be a nice look as an alternate worn with all-White unis, and maybe Teal over White.

Not sure its possible to be more correct about their current uniforms than you are in this post.

I will just never understand why the Rams reinvented the wheel instead of building around the blue and white helmet that they had when they first moved to LA. That uniform set during their first few years was visually awful. But in reality, the helmet and simple pants were a good start to what could have been a sick uniform. All they really needed was a jersey to match and white socks.

They had settled into a really interesting blue/gold at home, blue/white on the road set up.

I'm sure it was a pain to reapply the helmet decals week after week but it really was a unique and enjoyable example of bifurcated color palettes working for a team.

There's an alternate history where they just roll with that strategy in 2020, clearing the road of gold and going with navy blue at home.

I realized the Broncos did the same with their original set.

I like that but what they really should do is bring back the flake helmet.  Put the new logo on it and it would actually really go hard with the current set.

Fair, they haven't made the officially official announcement yet, but it is definitely happening.

I've been on the fence of the Columbia blue Texans in favor of make them red. But now, want them to steal back the colors.

A large majority of Rams fans just did not want the navy and white. They gave fans a choice of at least changing to the helmet and pants in a fan poll because people just didn't want to see St. Louis colors. They absolutely had to do blue/yellow.
