I get that this is a ridiculously elitist take, but the general trend among fans, players, and increasingly more teams toward preferring monochrome uniforms instead of traditional balanced uniforms is because most people have sh** taste and are morons.

these Washington all whites need some gold. BW the purple shoulder caps stripe and pant stripe.  And gimme the Sonny Sixkiller era font

I am sore, wounded, but not slain

I will lay down and bleed a while

And then rise up to fight again

I, like most people here, would prefer Michigan in navy over maize against Washington in white over purple, but there is something to be said about monochrome matchups offering the maximum possible contrast between the two teams, which is the purpose of having sports uniforms in the first place.

I tend to prefer more traditional, colorful matchups myself, but calling anyone who disagrees “morons” is pushing it too far. It’s worth a reminder that this stuff is, like all forms of “art,” subjective.

As far as monochrome uniforms go, I think tonight's are two of the more tasteful ones. Michigan has a distinctive color scheme and helmet design. A simple, monochromatic uniform below that allows the helmet to shine and the maize to pop off the navy blue. Washington, meanwhile, has the gold helmet paired with a jersey and pants with matching stripes. That's perfectly acceptable monochrome there throughout the history of football aesthetics. I definitely don't think either uniform choice detracted from the brands in question.

Exactly. Can't please everyone. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Looking back, I didn't realize how many different combinations Michigan wore.

11 different combinations to start the season. Wasn't until Ohio State that they repeated a combination (all blue).

Week 1: Blue-Maize-Blue

Week 2: Blue-Maize-White

Week 3: Blue-Blue-Blue

Week 4:  Blue-Maize-Maize

Week 5:  White-Maize-White

Week 6:  White-White-White

Week 7: Blue-Blue-Maize

Week 8: White-Blue-Blue

Week 9:  Blue-Blue-White

Week 10: White-Maize-Maize

Week 11: White-White-Blue

I'm sorry, I'm not following what these colors mean or what order they're in. I am guessing the helmet is not included (as that would be blue all the time). Is it like sock color or shoes or something? If it's socks, I didn't know they were consistent enough to track or definitively say they were one color per game.

Yeah, Jersey-Pants-Socks/Sleeves.

I know the average fan doesn't really notice socks and accessories, but most people here do. And they make a big difference in aesthetic. The blue jersey/pants combo definitely has a different feel when they wear maize socks and sleeves with it.  Wearing the maize pants with maize socks just looks bad. But anyway yeah it seems as though they very deliberately tried not to repeat any uniform combos until the very end.

Michigan in any of these combos against Washington in Gold-Purple-Gold would've been a fantastic visual matchup, one of the best in recent years. Funny how both teams ended up fumbling their combos and taking all of the vibrant colors out of the matchup.

Agreed. I love the all-blue, but wish they didn't wear it as much. Now they've become the "Big Game Blues." I absolutely loved the Rose Bowl uniforms with the white socks and sleeves (not to mention the shoulder patches). That's classic Michigan right there.

I think they could afford to drop the white accessories, although I understand why they did it for the Rose Bowl.

I agree that the maize accessories look terrible with the maize pants. I think the maize accessories look really nice with the navy jersey and pants, though, but all-navy looks really nice, too. I also think navy/white/navy/maize could work as an occasional road combo.

I think the ideal combos for Michigan are navy/navy/maize/navy at home, and navy/white/maize/navy on the road. I'm fine with some mixing and matching for them though, so long as they don't go with maize for both the pants and the socks/accessories.

I see. I understand the socks in a pro context; it's just that generally speaking there is no required (or practiced) consistency in how socks are worn in college. So I didn't realize that, apparently, Michigan wears the same color socks/tights from player to player each game. Thanks for clarifying.

Interesting sighting at the East-West Shrine Bowl

https://www.tsn.ca/cfl/toronto-argonauts-qwan-tez-stiggers-invited-to-participate-in-east-west-shrine-bowl-game-1.2063993

He's NFL draft eligible which is why he earned an invitation to the game:

"Qwan'Tez Stiggers will be playing pro football in 2024. He just doesn't know where yet.

The six-foot, 197-pound cornerback was the CFL's top rookie last season with the Toronto Argonauts and remains under contract with the club. However, Stiggers is also eligible for the '24 NFL draft and certainly has caught the eye of scouts south of the border.

He'll have another chance to impress. On Wednesday, Stiggers was invited to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl on Feb. 1 in Frisco, Texas.

A solid performance there could land Stiggers an invitation to the NFL combine, slated for Indianapolis from Feb. 29 to March 3. The draft goes April 25-27 in Detroit".

I guess nothing in the name says it has to be college athletes playing, so good on them for inviting him. And I hope things turn out well for him because the guy's been through some serious sh!t.

I remember someone playing in the XFL in 2020 was also draft eligible. I think he was actually drafted, but I don't remember if he made the roster.

I’m a little surprised by this considering the NCAA’s antiquated stance on “going pro”.
