Jason Kelce is the less annoying Kelce and is still fairly annoying.

Jason Kelce had his ankles all taped up for that retirement press conference.

“You all know about the on-field accomplishments, and many of the off-field ones, too, but what this man has meant to me and now my family over the past decade plus is nearly indescribable,” O’Pella wrote. “

In what would be his final season, when I was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo radiation and chemo, he offered his shore house if I needed to get away, and offered to pay for meal services to help my wife and me out, and he called me randomly when I had been home, too sick to come in because of chemo, just to check on me and chat about random things. That’s who he is as a person. I taped this guy’s ankles and thumbs everyday for 13 seasons, and when he played his last game in Tampa, again I couldn’t be there due to cancer.

And when he told me he would be retiring and I expressed my regret of not being the last person to ever tape him, he offered to have me tape him for his retirement press conference. That’s who he is. And I hope theses stories can add to an already unbelievable legacy.”

The same trainer had been taping his ankles for his whole career, except got cancer, and missed the last game because of chemo, so someone else taped him up.  Kelce asked if he could tape him up for the press conference so that he'd be the last person ever to do it.

Maybe annoying, but one of the more thoughtful and genuine people I've ever seen in sports.  He's honestly impossible to hate.

The funny thing is that if teams ever stop giving Jason Peters money just for him to be hurt, the Eagles could have two OLs going into the HOF in the same year.  That's got to be a record.

I'd be amazed if he took a spot this year where he is a clear backup. Next year, if this season doesn't work, I could see it happening, because he would need to re-establish himself as a potential starter.

Probably bold take, but the more I think about it, the less I can realistically see a landing spot for Wilson next season. He is NOT good at this point, and I don’t really see anyone who would really benefit all that much from having him considering the residual headache that’ll come with him. Him being somebody’s backup sounds like a total circus. And of all the teams out there with subpar to bad QB play, none of them really seem great for him, either.

Vegas seems like the most logical landing spot, but why even bother with that purgatory, for both sides? Steelers seem like a good fit but they ALWAYS are adverse to “personality” guys. Indy? A literal old QB carousel, and not worth it with Richardson IMO. Pats? Suck. Commanders? McNabb 2.0. Not worth either side’s time.

I can think of four spots that would be intriguing on different levels. Probability varies.

Titans - Not really that far of a vibe from Denver. Still decent enough to make some noise, but quiet enough to just bury him for awhile and let him play football. None of their quarterbacks are good enough to make this not worth a shot. Boring but logical.

Cowboys - Look. Dak is probably going to get like $60 million a year and I don’t think there’s a single person on earth who’s excited about that other than probably Dak Prescott. They might as well put as much pressure on him as they can and if he implodes, you have your cheap insurance plan. This whole thing is probably going to be a freak show anyway. Might as well have it at Jerry World. Seems like shooting yourself in the foot if it goes wrong, but high risk high reward.

49ers - This will make both fanbases spontaneously combust but why the :censored: not at this point? I’m STILL just not sold on Brock Purdy, and if Wilson has ANYTHING left in the tank, why not get it in the one spot I think he might be willing to actually be a backup? It’s the best chance at success for both sides. Wilson gets an absolutely insane offense to work with (strong running back too, that’s key), and the Niners have a backup plan that’s not just pulling the parking attendant out of the lot to suit up. Lowest risk, highest reward imo.  Also, funny!

Seahawks - I just cannot tell you how goddamn funny it would be to see him go back to Seattle while taking Denver’s money. It’s probably the one place where the circus would have a less hostile vibe, and it might end up being Wilson’s only shot at being on a roster next season. Would be sad in the funniest way possible, but that’s basically the definition of “Danger”Russ(🙄), so you never know.

He just needs to become a prime backup, get his paycheck, and eventually retire.   At least that's what I'd do.  Not cutout for starting imo.  But then that's kind of a bad attitude for professional sports....

The medical director at the Grossman Burn Center at Research Medical Center says 70% of patients referred for frostbite injuries suffered during the bitter cold in January are now being advised to schedule amputations.

Majority of them are Chiefs fans who attended the team’s frigid playoff game.

...

Garcia told FOX4 in January she’d already seen dozens of frostbite patients. Many of those were Chiefs fans who attended the playoff game against the Miami Dolphins where it was -4 degrees with a wind chill of -27 degrees at kickoff.

Note that this 70% does not refer specifically to patients who were at the game. Just a "majority" and "many" were at the game. The article also never states the actual number of patients suffering from frostbite. Just 70% of some unknown total.

You'll also notice the URL says "70% of Chiefs fan" yet the actual title in the article is "Many Chiefs fans who suffered frostbite at bitter cold playoff game need amputations". Wonder why there's a difference 🤔

From another article on the subject:

https://www.npr.org/2024/01/17/1225209300/chiefs-dolphins-hypothermia-cold?darkschemeovr=1

Quote

The Kansas City Fire Department said a total of 69 people called from the stadium — about half with weather-related conditions — before and during the game. Fifteen were transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

"Seven of those were for hypothermia symptoms, three were for frostbite symptoms, and five were for various other medical issues," said KCFD Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

Out of a stated attendance of 71,492 people, at most 3 had something (a foot? a little off the end of the pinkie toe?) amputated. Not quite as sensational a number as "70%"

The game shouldn’t have been played. For public safety it should have been moved anywhere else. It’s not even like it’s unprecedented.

Moving the game up earlier should have been considered as well, I know they want games to have their own slot and they want teams to have home field,  but they need to consider the impact on fans as well as players. I also wonder how those fans didn't at some point decide they needed to get out of that situation if it got to the point of needing amputations. Seeing that one person's injuries are believed to have come from removing his gloves to put up a tent, that's just crazy. Moving the game to Minnesota or Las Vegas would have sucked for locals, but they wouldn't be dealing with injuries like this.

Those would be the two best sports for Wilson, with contenders and in an explicit backup role. It'd also be funny in both places, crawling back to his old team or his old division rival.

I think Russ will sit out a year, though not by choice. Russ still thinks he can be a starter (see the Broncos' win streak last year and his red zone stats), but it'll take a long time away for him to think otherwise.

And I’m still going to defend playing that game. The players are paid millions, the fans willingly forked over their money to freeze their asses off and because they didn’t protect themselves, they’re paying the price.

Why should I feel bad for anyone here?

So Wilson ends his first Cowboys Presser with "Cowboys Country! Let's Ride" isn't he?

FOOTBALL WEATHER!!!!

There's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.

As @ManillaToad pointed out, there's some interesting use of headlines and numbers that don't mesh with what the article and past story indicate.

Fair enough. What's appropriate clothing for a tornado? I ask because we have tornadoes here in Ohio and I want to make sure I'm appropriately dressed for 200mph wind and flying debris. Got any suggestions for a hurricane? What does one wear to avoid getting struck by lightning?

There is, in fact, such a thing as bad weather and that includes -40 degree wind chill weather.

They signed up to freeze their asses off in the figurative sense.  I don't think they signed up to freeze their asses off in the literal, "nurse, please pass me the scalpel" sense.

But, if we're talking about all the dopes who thought that they only layer they needed was body paint, they fully deserve what's coming to them.

I get paid to potentially get killed for this country. That doesn’t mean we don’t take as much risk out of every scenario or just do suicide missions every day because that’s what we signed up for.
